I am from Bosnia, and I have to say that is easier for some European or American people to convert to Islam and say I hear and obey, than convert our neighbours, or revert those who are born muslim but not practicing.. here is all mixed up, comunnism, democracy, politics, different teachings of Islam.. Here a man can be named Muhammad and say to his daughter if you put a hijab or marry for a brother who is practicing a deen, you are dead to me. People can't accept it was a religious war, they would rather believe it was for political reason. Because they made friendships with nonbelievers, drank alcohol, been so close..those who believe it was a religious war they are practicing the deen today.. here people are like those that the Almighty Allah mentions in Quran 2:170 When it is said to them, “Follow what Allah has revealed,” they reply, “No! We ˹only˺ follow what we found our forefathers practicing.” ˹Would they still do so,˺ even if their forefathers had ˹absolutely˺ no understanding or guidance?

So, when I am watching converts for example from Germany, Sweden or England, their thoughts about Islam are on different levels than I can't imagine our neighbours could ever have. For example there are Serbs who are teaching they youngest to hate muslims from the childhood, they go to job everyday in Federation part, wich is near them like 2km, and glorify Serbia country and all related to it. But on other side muslim people suffered the most but as far as I know, no one has such hate like Serbs have towards Muslims. In rebuplica srpska they are living a miserable life, but still glorifying karadzic, mladic and their 'heroes'. They hate country where they have lived all their life, wishing every day that it doesn't exist.. what a poor thing

Try to think outside the box and look at that region from 15000 feet. In the Arab world, you can be Christian or Muslim - but you are still Arab. An Arab Christian who becomes Muslim is still part of the same ethnic group. In Bosnia and the rest of former Yugoslavia, by becoming Muslim you also changed your ethnicity. I know that doesn't make any sense. They created an entire nation around that. I don't talk about umma (a universal Muslim community), but a small, local ethnic group. It doesn't make sense that people who speak the same language, live in the same area, and share the same genetic background claim they are members of different ethnic groups. But that's happening in Bosnia and Serbia.

But I'm 51 now, don't speak any of the Afghani languages, don't have the money to be able to live independently, have no property to sale; and I can't take my children with me and can't leave them here either... so I stuck here for now... It isn't easy to move from one country to another, especially if there's a big geografic, cultural and menthal difference between those 2 countries. I've done it when I was 26 and it took more than a decade untill I adapted the new lifestyle. Imagine doing that when you 50+... But I understand your question, theoretically, a Muslim has to live in a Islamic land and follow the Islamic law.
