My Husband worked fifty years and payed taxes and when he needed help we couldn't get any. We appiled for food stamps when he got sick we only qualified for 10 dollars a month after all the taxes he paid in.What a slap in the face.He is gone now bless his heart,he don't have to see what a world we live in now. I am an immigrant here! But I came here legally! On my port of entry, I have with me the required documents such as a chest X-ray plate ; a medical certificate of good health; a National police clearance, a college diploma and a full school transcript from high school through college, passport, and a small sum of US dollars. I was also interviewed to make sure I understand, read , and write English!! How come the criminals amongst the migrants are crossing our borders without any identification and health checks??? I'm originally from NY currently living in Texas since 2006. Texas has been dealing with this "crisis" for as long as I have been here, at least. After Biden took office, everything went to hell in a handbasket. Texas has been trying to keep te borders secured which is any countries right! Every country has a process for people to seek asylum or to just move to. Hell, if I want to move to Greece, I have to jump through hoops to do it. Why shouldn't others have to do the same? My parents came to the US back in the 60s LEGALLY!!! They both came with temporary work visas. As a matter of fact, my father was denied 3 times but my mother was granted a work visa the first time she applied. She stayed here ALONE for 1 year working and PAYING taxes before my dad was finally issued a visa. People need to go through the correct process to be vetted to make sure they are not criminals, God knows we already have enough criminals already. They need to be willing to work and help contribute to the taxes that are sheltering them! So the lady with the 3-month old, I'm sure she's not going to work since she has such a young baby. Funny thing is though, when I had my son I started out living in a shelter for victims of domestic violence in the Bronx. I was treated like GARBAGE by the workers in the shelter system and had to grovel for things. I only received $70 in food stamps a MONTH with a new born who was on formula! How do you sustain yourself and a newborn on $70/mo? I'm sure these "asylum seekers" aren't getting just $70/mo. My heart goes out to you in NY still having to foot this bill. Welcome to how Texas has been feeling for the longest time and most of the country shook their fingers at Texas for wanting to keep the boarders closed and shipping them off to other cities! And one thing I would love to know is those who support these "migrants", I want to know how many of them actually opened THEIR HOMES to allow some migrants to live with them while they seek their supposed asylum?

No other countries open their borders like this. Most have some kind of border protecting their country. I went from May until the end of last year with no medical benefits. I didn't qualify for any. I lost my job of over 40 years and did get unemployment either because the unemployment system retired my application out of their system two times. Unemployment finally called me back four months later. It took them another 2 weeks to get it fixed by this time I had no income coming in so I got denied. I appealed the decision but they still denied me benefits. How can the American tax payer not be upset by this. I worked since I was 14 and when I needed the benefits I worked for I got denied

To use New Yorkers’ tax money to fund these humanitarian operations is not efficient nor fair. First, everyone can claim he or she is asylum seeker. Why not? To get free money, free shelter, free food and clothing… US is a heaven to them. On the other hand, I see many people are struggling. I see not enough mental health facilities or shelters to shelter mentally ill people. Why? Not enough money. Ironic, right? Second, it’s not fair to other immigrants. If everyone should be treated equally under the law, then it’s not equal for other immigrants who must pay hundreds of thousands of dollars and have to have sufficient means to support themselves in order to come and stay in the US. We should just abolish visa systems and let everybody come like asylees. I see no justification for this different treatment. Immigrants are equal, no matter for what reasons they give up their home countries. Anybody can say he or she doesn’t want to go back. Why one’s reason is better than others? a big loophole at best and anybody can take advantage of it.

It doesn't just fall on the NYC taxpayers, as they indicated. Funding and grants are given by the federal government for asylum services. The burden fall on each of us here in the U.S., whether you live in a city that hosts migrants or not. Our taxes are through the roof because of this, and our taxes will keep going up, along with prices for a lot of things, as the need for money for these millions of people will get tucked into our everyday purchases. The cost of gas is now going up, so I suspect the taxes you and I pay for this will in part go to the migrants. The cost of air fares and other services will go up again. Prices cannot come down, because the cost of this influx of migrants will be eating up every dime we don't send to Ukraine.

another aspect to consider: in 2020 alone, when our economy was completely shut down, Mexicans residing in the US sent $40 billion in remittances back to Mexico... $40 billion in remittances!... that is $40 billion that did NOT circulate in our economy at a time when our government was sending out stimulus checks to keep this country going... that $40 billion is equivalent to like a third of the Mexican government's annual budget... its like they export migrants and import remittances... i personally think we should be able to heavily tax those remittances... in some cases, confiscate it... regardless, we just cannot sustain the unrelenting volume of illegal immigrants without becoming a sub-third world country ourselves... housing, for instance... has anyone seen Mexico City?...
