True, but this administration doesn't seem to care. Even with a child's parent (s) working, some of them still can't afford food. I remember eating spoonbread for 2 months back during Carter!!! era!!! until my mother got her first paycheck. All the money she had then went for gas to go to work and apartment. there are a handful of 2nd generation immigrants like in NYC speaks English because of the large and vibrant ethnic enclaves that are there. There is no official language in the US contrary to popular belief, but then Spanish is the 2nd largest language in the US. I lived in South Texas right by the border for 9 months and feel that place is a piece of crap! Almost 100% of the people there are Latinos, manly Mexicans and I had some hard time with communnicating with others who spoke little to no English. Many dont make an effort even to speak the language, i guess now we know why they are so left behind and why they are in the bottom of the ladder.

Wow, I am so sorry for your situation. I have experienced homelessness a multitude of times before I became a nurse. My daughter (7 at the time) and I were escaping a DV situation and ended up living in my barely working car because there was NO SPACE at any shelter within a reasonable distance. So it is especially frustrating reading this kind of thing knowing they not only take it for granted but are outright disrespectful, entitled and blatantly ignorant. I pray things get better for you as soon as possible. Although I am also glad you aren’t out on the streets. Can you tell if you perhaps ANY of them speak English….what EXACTLY did they expect when they got here?! My parents came in 1971. They did it legally and because they were leaving a communist country they lived and worked for 3 years in a work camp in Austria with a 5 year old child in tow to recieve their papers. There was no pity, no 20 minute agenda based news reports on their plight. They came to the USA legally pleaded for work with very minimal english worked thier tails off bought a home raised 3 children with not a single hand out like millions of other immigrants before them, they did not live off the backs of others. I wonder why they never did puff piece on the guys who work 100 hours a week at my local 711. I guess it’s not the American dream when you waited for years in Islamabad for a visa so you can travel to the U.S., then cried when you finally got that green card to let you live and work in the U.S., then learned English and American culture by immersion while maintaining employment and a residence for 5 years without messing up, then studied and passed the citizenship exam, then applied and waited for visas to bring your wife and children, who you haven’t seen in years, to the U.S., then applied and obtain citizenship for your wife and children, and then bought a house, started a business and watched your 4 year old son go to his first day of school as an American. I thought that was the American dream.
