Sha’Carri Richardson, a 21-year-old American track star, has tested positive for a chemical found in marijuana, putting her Olympic participation in doubt. Speaking exclusively to TODAY, Richardson cites the pressure of athletic competition, her biological mother’s recent death and more, but says, “I know what I did, I know what I’m allowed to do … and I still made that decision.” Regarding the chance that she could still participate in a relay event, she says, “If I’m allowed to receive that blessing, then I’m grateful for it, but right now, I’m going to just focus on myself.” She says: “I’d like to say to my fans and my family and my sponsorship … I apologize,” adding, “Don’t judge me: I’m human. I just happen to run a little faster.” She adds: “I still have games in me … I’ll be back and ready to compete.”

Alcohol and cigarettes are not normalized at all, but they are legal across the US, weed isn’t and it’s a banned substance for competition and that’s the difference. It sucks, but she made a stupid move. I hope it doesn’t screw her over more than it already has. She knew she was going to have to submit to testing.

@Reported Alotforfreespeech by the Olympics rules, they are allowed to use cannabis during the “recovery” period, but they cannot be high during competition. They can have a certain amount of thc in their system, but if it’s over that amount they break the rules. They can use cannabis any time before 48 hours before race day. The rules around this are so messed up and hypocritical.

Also, we don’t know if everyone else followed the rules and just didn’t get caught. Weed is easy to flush out your system before a urine test. A lot of career/educated people smoke weed because their are less side effects than fda drugs. Anti depressants and other fda drugs cause seizures and marijuana prevents seizures. This is why it was demonized by corporations/politicians. It can effectively put pharmaceuticals out of business. Follow the money. The only reason it’s legal is so they can profit now.

Her words were *Talking publicly about the things that have impacted my life, positively or negatively. Who am I to tell YOU how to cope, the pandemic was was going on within the last year & this is his her FIRST career. Then the reporter in Oregon is the one who told her about her Biological Mother passing away!! I don't know what her relationship was like but NOBODY should have to receive news like this, from a reporter!! However, it could have happened in the moment while she & her Grandmother was at the races & the reporter could have thought she *KNEW* about the passing of her Bio Mother. As she said, *I am human!* So is the reporter!! Until the reporter speaks out & tells the *TRUTH* hopefully, that's when we'll learn the other side!! I commend this young lady who's *OWNED UP TO HER MISTAKE!* *RIGHT or WRONG, LEGAL or ILLEGAL,* She *KNOWS* that she's *NOT ALLOWED TO DO THAT KIND OF ACTIVITY* while being active with the Olympics! *MOST ADULTS TODAY* would have been crying out for mercy then threatening to sue the board! I've heard *PLENTY* of excuses before!! The most common one, *How do I know you didn't plant something in my urine test? I'm clean! I've NEVER smoked pot a day in my life! I've NEVER taken steroids to gain muscle mass!* The excuses are *ENDLESS!* I know because I give drug tests on a daily basis!! What's worse, is the lengths that people will go through to try & get the drugs *OUT* of their body if they even *THINK* there is a chance of a drug test being popped on them!! I think that's why Miss. Richardson handled her situation like a *CHAMPION!* She'll still be able to get the *REAL MEDAL* that she's been working so *HARD* to get!! She's just got to get over this hurdle first!!
