I am very proud to be a Siemens employee. Thank you for the tour of an American locomotive factory. Everything is a bit bigger and more robust here. Greetings from beautiful Germany, why don't you come and visit us in Germany and test the Railjet or the ICE3 Neo.

6:08 - Does that mean we could end up seeing Siemens handle a bunch of overhauls for Amtraks Superliners? Maybe the Amfleet II's will be renovated to last until Amtrak finds replacements for them as well? The Viewliner I's are in desperate need of overhauls. They felt run down when I first rode in the early 2010's. Also, congrats on reaching a status where Siemens took notice and invited you to the facility!

This is amazing. I lived in Davis, very close to Sacramento for nine years, and I had no idea such a huge scope of building rail cars was happening just up the tracks from my home. Great video!

Can’t wait to see Airo progress over the next few years as well as the new facility in NC. Awesome video!

How did you get invited though
@ZaphodHarkonnen15 минут бұрын
Marcom teams are always out the lookout for 'influencers' like this. They then invite them to have a closer look to help increase visibility over what they're doing. Good marcom teams will make sure to have no direct editorial touch. Generally only limiting it to company secrets or legal restrictions. Marcom is "Marketing Communication" for those wondering. An evolution of what was PR. I'm also using 'influencer' in a constructive way, not the common flashy way it's often used as.

It would have been great for me to go into the Siemens factory in Sacramento even though I have seen the outside of the factory and all of the cool trains that they have built while I was driving by it on my adventures. But anyways, great video!

Incredibly cool video! Thanks for going over the various steps of railcar assembly, as it goes to show how everyone plays a part in making all of these railcars come together for the greatest railcar builder in the country. It's especially cool that you got to see the Cascades Chargers (likely the first video footage of such Chargers to date), although I do question why the rear end has a different frame, notably near the rear headlights at 1:30.
@Saint2558Сағат бұрын
Good catch. Maybe they are being built to ALC-42E spec and that's where APV tie in would happen (though not on Cascades). I can't wait to see a finished unit.

It’s so cool to just SEE the trains One day a North American railfan should get invited to Munich to see the motherload of trains being built

Or just go personally to the site by themselves.

No hyperbull, but that was the best Siemans tour video I've watched! Keep up the good work (and keep your nose in the school books!)

Siemens should make BiLevel cars
@squelchedotter4 сағат бұрын
I doubt it, it's not really a thing they do. Their only bilevel trains are EMUs. Nobody really makes bilevel coaches anymore because high capacity routes are much better served with EMUs.
@iparty984 сағат бұрын
Siemens will have the capability to make bi-level cars soon, big things are on the way with the new facility
@scott5055Сағат бұрын
Agreed. Several commuter railroads need bi level otherwise it would be a nightmare extending all the platforms

I'm still bitter that Siemens chose Horseheads over Olean. Olean has a rich history of fixing and refurbishing old steam locomotives going back all the way to the 1910s. It's at the intersection of the old Erie and Pennsylvania main lines. The old Dresser plant, which Siemens used to own, had a roundhouse, a whole bunch of facilities already set up for locomotive refurbishing and fabrication, and the yard had a direct connection to the main line. Also, Olean is already storing at least 4 Acela II sets from Alstom in the freight yard. We already have experience to transport these sets. The resume was on the wall, and Siemens chose Horseheads. A town that no one in southern New York cares about.

Those Via Chargers are the best looking design in my opinion, they just look bad ass. All though the ALC is an improvement over the original SC44 nose I still wish Amtrak went with the nose design Via went with.

I wonder several things: First off, with the new Lexington, NC factory, I know that will for sure enable the expedited completion of Amtrak’s Airo train orders, but that also might enable them room to build Amtrak’s new long distance fleet as well. Has Amtrak specified whether Siemens might be the preferred manufacturer for Superliner, Amfleet II and Viewliner I replacement? Also, how many pieces of equipment can be in the factory at a time? Like how many Airo cars could fit on the entire premises?

Jooo, the Siemens rail vehicles are already great. It's just a pity that the USA and Canada invested much late in new trains and network expansions. Every 2 years, the Innotrans takes place in Berlin. This is the world's largest trade fair for railways and railway construction. I have posted 3 videos on my channel for Innotrans 2024. Maybe this is something for you. US manufacturers had hardly been present at all. You can find the Innotrans videos in the Innotrans playlist. Greetings from Berlin/ Germany. Sven

one interesting thing Dual Mode locomotives could be interessting as well for freight companies. And so far i only Siemens and Stadler types for that.
@daniellewis17892 сағат бұрын
There's no good place that already has electrification for freight use. If the PRR system hadn't been taken down on Conrail trackage, maybe there would be a home in the Northeast. If the Milwaukee had stayed electric I'm sure we'd already see dual modes on that route. The first area I expect we'd see mainline freight electrification is a west coast port to inland cargo handling area route, which might see some dual modes if the route isn't 100% diesel or 100% electric.
