We’ve uncovered a full, uncut interview with Kanye West from 2013. This was filmed before the takeoff of his Yeezy fashion line and Yeezy BOOST sneaker collection, before The Life of Pablo, and before he started his family with Kim Kardashian.
In this 22-minute long uncut interview, Kanye delivers candid commentary on coming from Chicago, provides insight on hip-hop from producer, and breaks down his own work and the work of other influential producers like Madlib and J.Dilla.
West also connects his interest in music production and fashion design by citing parallels between J.Dilla and Margiela, Pete Rock and Jean Paul Gaultier, Q-Tip and John Galliano, and calling himself the Marc Jacobs of Hip-Hop. The interview giving us a glimpse into Kanye’s creative mind circa 2013.

His mind went back to producer mode for a few minutes here. We're so used to him being a rapper that we forget he was also one of the biggest hip hop producers.

KLN no he barely produces an entire track anymore he essentially tweaks tracks at this points and let's other producer make his sound now.

I wouldn't say that he lets other producers make his sound now, he's definitely in control of curating the direction and vibes. He's more of the conductor to his own orchestra of producers.

I wasn't trying to be inflammatory or anything when I said this, if anyone is thinking that. Was just saying that there was a time when Kanye was more in demand as a producer like in the 90s and early 2000s. Blueprint album is a really pivotal moment for Ye as a producer. I'm one of the biggest Kanye fans and went to two of his shows during the Yeezus tour. Still a supporter of his music.

Would you agree that if i shared a common interest in his profession, my mind might be more open and understanding to the LEVELl of impact he made in his field? Never said being creative is a prerequisite for respect as a whole, but it's my opinion for this specific person and situation.

that would have to come from a music oriented interviewer and not an entertainment oriented one. basically, we wont get this type of Kanye with the Breakfast Club or a HOT 97 interviewing him because they just want sound bites and to get a reaction out of him. the entertainment is first and music is second with those guys. its going to take a Nardwuar or Red Bull Music Academy to get the music Kanye. Or even an OG he respects like Timbaland, RZA or Q-Tip.

Asking about Dilla as the very first question is actually so smart from the interviewers’ standpoint - they did a great job with curating the questions. Really brings out the genius in Ye. Never saw ye this composed in an interview ever tbh. Love ye forever, he’s the goat.

15:00 Kanye putting so much pressure on himself like he Atlas. But I understand, he wanna be in that category and the sad thing is, people don't respect him like he is on the same level as the greats. Only way the media is gonna compare him too Michael or Steve Jobs is when he passes away.

he says a lot and a lot is in it. but there are very empty moments in his words. but his words surely mean a lot more than those of his peers. like when I hear Virgil speak I'm beyond confused. Meanwhile with Kanye, I can follow a bit.

This isn't hard to figure out. He and Madlib did the song. RZA wasn't too sure about it for MBDTF so Kanye stashed it. When it's time to revisit it he puts Kendrick on it which makes sense with the title of the song.

You listen to all the words around that aswell? Talk about taking it out of context, he was saying the point that j dilla had real artist integrity and still loved jewellery just like jay z and others, so he was saying that wasnt always true that the jewellery wearers were less talented, he doesnt agree with that here
@rykvanderpol4775
@rykvanderpol4775 7 жыл бұрын
I think you took my comment the wrong way. Kanye implies that its ironic that some artists (such as JayZ and Dilla) wore a lot of jewellery yet still boasted high artistic integrity, becasue most of the "jewellery wearers" only care(d) about personal gain, wealth and promoting themselves with meaningless radio hits that just have a hard beat. Take a look at the" jewellery wearers" of today; like 21 savage, lil uzi vert and kodak black... they are untalented artists who are in it for the money and tend to wear a lot of jewellery. My comment was pointing out that relevance. That a lot of the jewellery wearers of today are trash artists. Not that Jay or Dilla were bad artists because they wore jewellery.

He is very knowledgeable about his craft, it isn't surprising but he is genuinely an artist and if you hang around artists in any field, designers in fashion, interiors, painters, those that are uncompromising about their product are generally temperamental, he actually went to an art school. I feel like a lot of the public ridicule how volatile he can be without an appreciation for the broader context. I can't look at this guy like somebody that blew up off of an ability to freestyle and went mainstream.
