@@PedroKing99 Only what Ford is advertising as the official EPA numbers. Anywhere from 230 to 320 miles on a charge depending on which model and battery pack you get. Ford has really stepped out and produced a really cool truck.... BUT they're "unobtainium" given the current supply/demand environment and quite expensive too. I'm less than 1 year since my new truck purchase ('22 GMC Sierra AT4) so I've got time to see if these challenges sort themselves out before considering a change. Holy Smokes, what a powerful truck!

If I’ve learned anything from this whole ev “announcement” thing, it’s that if you’re interested in any ev that is coming out, put a reservation on it and any others that you might be interested in as soon as possible after the big unveiling. I made the mistake of waiting til the next morning after they announced the Lightning. They were sold out of Pro and XLT models by the time I got called to order. Ford was nice enough to extend the 2022 pricing on 2023 Lightnings for reservation holders that got passed over. I’m hoping to get my truck only a year and a half after I placed my res. Order early and often.

@@TexasTruckChannel Absolutely. This absolutely has its applications. A drive unit like that would be great in a great tow vehicle. There's a reason EV's aren't king of TX2K. There seems to be a bit of a disconnect with the average consumer and even some enthusiasts. Great job with the video! EVs and ICE really are apples and oranges and we shouldn't even try to fit them in the same box. I think MPGe And HP are useless. Let's get Kw and MPkWh. Run Kw against the vehicles draw and you can see efficiencies too. That would be an interesting test to pull battery Kw vs output and take a look at losses compared to say Tesla. Then take a look at charging efficiency to calc whole system loss. We're only scratching the surface of a whole new generation of drivetrains and it's super exciting. Can't wait to get my hands on one of these trucks and start tinkering.

There are a lot of new E companies entering the industry now. Plus the big players of the past makign EVs, I think it'll only be time before you wish comes true. IF not for the science end, the marketing end! They will all need something to brag about, but it has to be something the customer can understand easily. And as this is a new segment, saying its got 567EHP's (or whatever) isnt going to compare easily to the ICE market.

As a long time ford owner and currently own 3, the lightning is far from being a daily or practical truck. it's fun and fast but not worth it in the long haul. I recommend looking up the story about the Chevy Volt owner that went to a dealer to get their replacement battery. 30,000 dollars how is that saving money after 70k miles driven. We are about a good 10 years before the EV world will be anywhere near practical. The real focus should be hydrogen powered vehicles.

You say we are a good 10 years before the EV world will be practical. So how do we get there? Magically? We have to start somewhere and iron out all the issues. People who are buying these EV's are called early adopters. Thanks to them you will have your EV truck just like you want it in 10 years. Stop being a downer. If you dont like this, move along. Because even if you dont like it, your children will be driving EV's.

Well I’ll tell you how we’re not going to get there. We’re not getting there with an old and outdated power grid! Y’know, the thing that provides all the chemical potential energy required for EV’s to do the V part? Why do you think CA is experiencing scheduled rolling blackouts? EV’s, you simpleton. Lol 🤦🏻‍♂

It does seem cool. It's got power and I am all diesel guy so I'm trying not to knock this by being stupid in the comments, but one thing that I can't get past is the range. It does seem awesome performance wise, no doubt. But for a truck that's supposed to tow and haul, it's like having a dragster with a two gallon tank. They both provide 580 hp and are quick and are awesome performing machines. But with a two gallon tank you don't see too many dragsters used to tow and daily drive. Electric is great but the batteries need to be better for total practical "truck" use. Cars not bad, but electric cars still won't hold a candle to a diesel manual trans jetta, in cost of purchase........ key maintenance (battery vs diesel particulate filter) ..... total emissions (power generation and lithium mining included vs refining crude to diesel)..... at 5 dollars per gallon of diesel, yeah electric wins for per mile driving and honestly I hope it does but for now all considering, diesel. Would love to hear some thoughts, thanks friends

Just like in the real world MOST trucks won’t be towing at all or that much that range will matter much, move EV owners like myself charge at home overnight(I’ve never used public chargers in over 3 years😳)……so that’s a non issues for the majority, just like it was shown on TFL truck the lightning will out tow even a 2500 deisel ram every day of the week without a sweat and at a significantly lower price and with a 10th of the maintenance problems ! There is almost nothing except long range towing that an ice rig will outperform and sumularly sized EV. Face it it’s only you few guys that tow long range or more than once or twice a month that have the same tired comment complaint, we get it it’s new to you guys but it’s the future and just like a horse and buggy the ice engines outdated methods are of the past! 🤷🏽‍♂️

Interesting, your diesel requires cobalt water and electricity for every single gallon of diesel it burns. Cobalt and lithium in the battery is also required to run it and lithium in the very metals it's made from. Urea for the def injection fluid is also mined for. Diesels burn billions of gallons of that stuff each year. No ev requires it. Your diesel also has unhealthy particulate emissions an ev does not produce period, noise an ev doesn't make which is also considered to be a form of pollution. Gives off terrible smells no ev does, smells which cause headaches lung issues and Nausea for some people. Gives off a lot of heat an ev does not make as ice vehicle's routinely exhaust 220° or hotter air while running. They are just big noisy inefficient air pumps after all. Sucking in massive amounts of air, squishing it, squirting in diesel, blowing it up and out the tailpipe. Ice require tune ups and use many manu parts evs just don't have, evs also do not require belts hoses or many various fluids and fluid flushes that every single ice made requires just to function. Evs don't require oil changes, here in the U.S. we do over 420,000,000 oil changes each year. 27,000+small businesses exist just to do oil changes. 160,000+tons of wasted steel just in the filters themselves. Less than 60% of oil is recycled and even when recycled it uses more energy and water. At a very inefficient rate of 1 gallon waste oil to 2.5 quarts of recycled resellable oil. Which then has to be packaged and transported again causing more wasted energy and pollution. Evs don't have engine air filters, fuel filters, spark plugs, coil pack's, don't have transmissions which need fluids and rebuilding/replacement. Just simple single speed reduction drive sealed gearboxes. Evs don't use any catalytic converters which are made by the hundreds of millions each year and require mining btw. Cats use platinum metals in the catalysts itself(hence why they are stolen and cut off people's stationary car's n trucks by the thousands each year. Brakes last up to 3x longer so a lot less waste there. Plus the recovered energy form regen braking which is wasted in every ice vehicle. I could keep going but maybe this will give you some research to do? 🤔
@travisewy692
@travisewy692 2 жыл бұрын
@@4literv6 not bad. But a few flaws I would say. Def isn't mined. It's a synthetic compound of ammonia and carbon dioxide. Synthetic meaning man made. And the catalytic converters you mentioned with the precious metals, are not installed on diesels. They have a SCR. Selective catalyst reduction. Way different metals and yes still mined, but way more abundant. And all of that other stuff you mentioned, sounds like your taking the ev just by itself and not thinking of the non emission regulated older diesels in the mining equipment that mines for the lithium for the batteries or pending on where you live the carbon footprint of the electricity to charge the damn ev. And where is there cobalt water in diesel, I ain't saying your wrong just never heard of this in automotive, semi truck and rail road experience of 20 years. And x3 the brake life....... that's just reaching for shit at that point

@@travisewy692 rc18 is right about the brakes seen many evs mainly teslas because they have been out the longest have seized brakes because they where never used because of the regenerative motors yes your point of the energy to charge evs is moot compared to the energy requirements to drill and refine and transport oil and fuel....electricity travels 98% the speed of light the second you make it anywhere in the world if you have power lines it would be charging your batteries with evs we are eliminating tons of waste but by the sounds of it your a climate denier probably live some where you can't notice it but you will give it time... but then it will be to late people like you only think about now and themselves even if it means the future generations get fu#ked

People keep saying battery replacement, like its a thing. EVs have battery modules that cost around 5k. The idea of all modules failing at the same time is pretty far fetched. I doubt if an EV has ever needed all modules replaced without some contributing factor like a flood or a crash.

My question is how can you figure HP when you don't have an RPM? Further, why not use hub dynos so you could do full throttle?
@beardedforlife3740
@beardedforlife3740 2 жыл бұрын
When it comes to electric motors you don't use rpm in the equation to calculate horsepower
@TexasTruckChannel
@TexasTruckChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Great question, we had to make gear ration calculations to calculate motor rpm. This is why we had several hours of calibration runs prior to accurate testing. We initially chased the hub dyno method but the experts at dynocom were quick to let us know that hud dynos would not support the weight and tq of this EV. This is why they modified an existing in ground dyno setup.

The amount of power that the motors use is directly related to the load on the vehicle. Unlike ICE vehicles, where a 500hp engine would use more fuel than a 200hp engine, with EV's a less powerful motor will not help improve efficiency. Meaning if you're cruising at 60mph with a trailer, a 250kW motor will be using the same amount of power as a 150kW motor would.

What's really crazy and people don't think about is that after a few years these EV cars and trucks will be giant paper weights. Batteries drain over time. Imagine going to try and sell or buy a used EV truck. Just like a cell phone . Every charge and discharge is wear and tear on the battery. You will never get a real 100% full charge out of a used EV.
@mattbrew11
@mattbrew11 2 жыл бұрын
Whats even crazier than that is the motors will run 750k+ miles without maintenance so essentially a $22k battery replacement at 350k will get you an otherwise brand new truck and the old battery can still power your home another 10+ years.

@ElectricGlider2016
@ElectricGlider2016 2 жыл бұрын
Take it from Norway which has the highest number of EVs on the road in just as cold climates where they have been just fine. And handling in an EV is much better since all the heavy weight is distributed throughout the entire length of the vehicle and software can instantly manage power between the forward and rear wheels. No need for an LSD. Please go actually drive a 4 wheel drive EV in the winter to actually experience it before assuming it's somehow worse than your typical car.
