Joel, you are without question one of the most kind, gentle, genuine, and generous souls I've ever had the pleasure of knowing and I will NEVER forget your generosity in my time of need!

I've always liked this friendly gentleman. He has such a calm and refreshing perspective to filmmaking and I could listen to him all day. A great sense of humour too. I don't care what people thought of Batman & Robin, he did what he felt was right at the time. Especially riding on the success of Forever, which was very unexpectedly successful. He wanted to do Batman Year One but Bob Daley and Terry Semel, the top mojos at Warner Bros pressured him to do a family friendly instalment instead. I always felt Joel got treated unfairly for this. It was a comic book based adventure and especially after Returns, parents were quick to jump on the band wagon and Warners decided to change course. I think Returns is much darker and it felt too uncomfortable compared to the 1989 film. Schumacher did his best to reinvent the franchise after Burton decided to part ways. He is probably one of my favourite directors and this was such a joy to see. Thank you. RIP Mr Schumacher.

Very nice interview. Regaurdless of BATMAN & ROBIN, Schumacher is still a wonderful director responsible for some of my favorite thrillers (FALLING DOWN, PHONE BOOTH, 8mm) and I am excited for TRESPASS. He's also responsible for discovering my favorite actor to have emerged in the past decade: Colin Farrell (rent TIGERLAND).

@TheMpo1986 Don't blame Joel for that. Blame WB for wanting a movie to sell toys than tell a story.

@TheEvilflea Believe it or not, his ancestors did have something to do with the production of shoes. People in those times needed to distinguish Tom the Butcher from Tom the Locksmith, so you were named by what you did.

His track record is hit or miss for me - he's done some good ones, some so-so ones and some real stinkers. But in every interview I've seen, he's always come across as very generous in his praise for cast and crew and for his biggest "bomb," BATMAN AND ROBIN, he owns the film and takes total blame for its problems. (And in retrospect, I can see where he was going with it, it just did not work for me.) So I give him credit for being a stand-up guy.

@Havic366 It may or may not have lost money itself (with marketing costs it's hard to say), but studios rely on tentpole summer blockbusters to absorb money lost on smaller pictures they release throughout the year. So unless they do huge business, they are, in fact, money losers for a studio. And I'm not sure what you are saying. I didn't even mention BATMAN FOREVER.

@Sleeper99999 Sorry, but I've watched Batman and Robin WAYYYYYY more than I've watched Batman Forever. and WAYYYYYY MORE than I watch this new Batman movie series. And Batman and Robin wasn't a bomb, financially. He was told to make it more kid friendly just like the director of TMNT 2 so.....

@TheEvilflea Names started out as a way to describe what someone did, where they lived, what they were like, or who they were related to. Italian names are funny, do you know Tommy Lasorda? Sordo means deaf. Joe Pesci, means fish. Innamorato=in love. Maiale=pig. Bastardo. Bocchino=blow job. Culetto=cute ass et. al.
