That's the problem. What qualifications should a Congressmen have? We should be ok with inexperience because the vast majority of the experienced politicians have leveraged their jobs for personal benefit vs actually representing the people. Since it's inception, Congress has voted in favor of the people on issues 15% of the time. AOC really is quite annoying, but every now and then, she does a good job in these hearings. This video is not one of them though. However, when people state that Congress should have Qualifications, people are often referring to college education. Roughly 35% of Americans hold a Bachelors degree. 9% own a business, and 7% having served any kind of military service. You are stating that the average American should not be able to serve in a political office when the role of Congress was designed so that regular everyday people could get elected. Most states require these people to either pay 5k or collect a couple thousand signatures just to be placed on the ballot. That alone locks out a lot of people.

I'm pretty sure she shut down before the meeting started judging by how she carried. Sadly in this concept there were several of those moments that were untouched. If you're called to a hearing, you would think they would come prepared. How can a legal rep of the company state they do not know why certain decisions were made that would put the bank itself in question as he's sitting there, when the government created and set things up already. The lack of understanding toward the 95% of the loans being forgiven but not knowing the amount of said 95% that were fully forgiven versus partial tells me she was working on notes. Loan forgiveness to me seems so bizarre. You asked for a loan, understood the terms (there is always a risk), took the money and used it. Then something went wrong in your life and now you want the bank to just come up and say "you know what, just forget about it". All while you got to use the money for a college degree or bought a house or a business. I could not afford college, joined the military. Now the government wants to play with the idea of student loan forgiveness which puts my tax dollars on the hook for some kid to go play beer pong for 5 years and have the time of their life. My GF has three kids that all went to college and are between 26-31 years old and none of them are working in the field of what they went to college for.

These particular loans were designed to be forgiven. Still silly, and I absolutely disagreed with them, but it was baked into the cake, so to speak. It was basically a subsidy for employers to stave off closings and layoffs during the shutdowns. The idea was.. a bank gives your business $100,000 to keep the rent paid, and the employees employed and paid. If over the course of the qualification period (8 weeks worth of operating costs, basically) you have fullfilled your end and put the money honestly toward the intended goals, then you apply for forgiveness and don't have to repay it. The government pays the bank the forgiven amount and the loan is cleared from the books. If you don't spend a significant enough portion on what you agreed to spend it on, then you are on the hook for the loan. The bank CEO is asserting their right to oversee that forgiveness process. They have a right to look at those numbers submitted by the borrowers, and determine whether or not they actually qualify for forgiveness. If they don't, then the bank gets to collect payments and interest on that still outstanding amount. I imagine they are resistant to complete government control because it might mean blanket forgiveness, even of loans that don't actually qualify, and thus millions of dollars in legitimately-owed interest vanishes down the rabbit hole.
