Doesn’t really matter what people drive if they don’t understand the basics of driving on sand , like tire pressure ,weight distribution or momentum , the choice of 4WD vehicle becomes irrelevant .
@NullaNulla5 жыл бұрын
Exactly ... they all stopped right in the worst spot possible and couldn't get the start again ... need to keep the bloody momentum and AFTER letting the tyres down. I've managed to get front wd hatch backs through mud bogs that 4wd'ers had problems with needing tractor tows lol ...

Plays a factor but far from being the only factor. Mechanics have a lot to do w it especially now with all their computer control of the drive train. Much of it is out of the drivers hands.

@@nicstr28 the last time i went to Fraser i witnessed a couple of backpackers that where going to Fraser in a Toyota two wheel drive hiace van , they pulled next to me right before the sand at Inskip point and asked me for directions and why i was letting air out of my tires on my 2012 Ford Ranger, after giving them directions to Fraser and the reason for deflating my tires they did the same, at this point my wife and i noticed the van was two wheel drive, i asked them if they knew this and there reply was do you need a 4wd to go to Fraser to which i replied not necessarily but it helps a lot , while we where doing this another car pulled up an older couple in a Mercedes all wheel drive thing with all the bells and whistles and they asked the same questions and followed suit, all the while cars came and went past us , once all tire pressure was sorted i told said backpackers that i will lead so if thet got stuck i could assist same as the couple in the Merc , well you wont believe it with a few basic instructions that Toyota hiace and the Merc went almost everywhere with us , so if what you say is true then that hiace van would have bogged down at Inskip and so to the very expensive Merc but with basic knowledge and simple instructions these guys hed a great time and except for a couple of situations on Fraser the hiace van had to get snatched, one thing i will add is a group of people who where in front of , two in late model Pajero's and a Nissan xtrail where in front of us on the ferry had trouble trouble getting to the ferry and then immediately after getting of the ferry because they did not take the time to adjust tire pressure, my point is basic sand driving knowledge will get most people and vehicles from point a to point be without to much trouble, tire pressure, momentum, weight distribution.

1974 or '75 an Arizona girl in my high school class literally lost her head (clean off) on a beach in Sonora, Mex while standing with a crowd watching a "slingshot" tow. My two firefighter buddies saw it happen while pleading with the tow guy to wait while they cleared people back. The guy said "F*** off, I know what I'm doing!" On a lighter note I had a good chuckle watching all these 'quipped out "fer show" rigs in the vid stuck to the gills on street pressure. Imagine me in my old stock '74 VW bus circling this circus, slow, fast, stopping, reversing, and laughing the whole time. The trick too is don't be timid letting air out. ALL the tires, ESPECIALLY the front ones. Almost any 2 wheel drive can handle what's seen here given proper tinkering. Lastly, state secret here, if you're expecting sand bring along a roll of chicken wire for emergencies as a sand-mat. It's lightweight, easily stowable and will get you out of anything. While airing down is a must in sand or loose anything, I have never understood why people go so slow over obstacles and completely ignore momentum. i used to watch people make the same mistakes on hill climbs. I would watch the guy (always the same) who thought he would gear it low and power through it. Then the next guy that has speed (in second gear or even third) would complete the climb and the dumbfounded look on the slow and low guy s face. These folks need to be doing about 35 thats MILES per hour when they hit this loose sand. And for the morons that say "they cant there are pedestrians around" then the pedestrians need to MOVE or volunteer to dig cars stuck out. This looks like a VERY cool beach though
