Set forth and walk about in the land, through its length and breadth, for to you I will give it. " 5:31 Father: Mr. Kaneda, You committed unforgivable sins and have been punished for a long time. But if you can truly repent of those sins and go to the kingdom of God with a pure heart, you will be able to have land, descendants and live there happily forever. I don't think you are a sinner anymore. I, as one of the sons of God, I give you my blessing, Amen. 8:07 Kaneda: May I drink this water? 8:15 Guard B: Sure. 9:17 Guard B: Cigarettes? 9:31 Guard B: You wrote your will? A Tokyo detention house guard talked about executions in a newspaper article that I read...He said the executions are always carried out in the mornings before eleven am, so the prisons are always deathly quiet in the morning. Death row prisoners are never told of their execution day, so they have the possibility of suddenly being taken on any morning. They sit as quietly as they can, listening for footsteps or any sign that the guards are coming for them or someone they know...He said that after a certain time has passed in the morning there's a release of tension and the prison feels normal for the rest of the day. When the guards do come for a prisoner they don't mention that he is going to be executed, they say, "The warden wants to see you"...Of course, this means they're about to climb the 13 steps.

Everyone here bemoaning that the practice of death penalty in Japan is cruel should do some more reading. The Japanese judicial system does not take the death penalty lightly. The option is considered only in the most serious circumstances - usually murder cases with more than one victim. People often complain about the condemned not knowing his date of execution, but let me ask you, do YOU know the date that you are going to die? You don't. All you know is that you will die one day, it is just that the prisoners on death row are forced to come to terms with that reality. You feel like you will live tomorrow, and the day after, and the next, just because you are not aware of any threat to your life as far as you can see, and that was the same for the victims of the people on death row in Japan. None of those dead victims thought they were going to die that day. None of the victims' families thought that was the last day they were going to see their loved ones. People don't get sentenced to death for victimless crimes. When there is a person on death row, there are often MULTIPLE victims, and that includes the families.
@MM-wp5sp Жыл бұрын
And what about innocent ones? Let me get an idea out - if an innocent is killed (not executed, as that's an euphemism), the all of the involved, the judge, the guards, the priest and the killer (not executioner) should be killed in squaring the debt. Is that fair? Can we expect to see it in the law? Ofc not, they value their lives too much, much easier to make a mistake, when you are certain you wont be paying for the mistake with your head. But that's is as it should be. You fk up, kill an innocent, there your head goes.
@wadepsilon01 Жыл бұрын
Most death row inmates are sentenced when they are found to have intentionally murdered And now, with the development of measurement technology, the probability of false accusations has been drastically reduced. more than one person. Japanese law states that executions are to be carried out within six months. However, that law is never followed. On average, the death penalty is usually carried out after 10 to 15 years. Many prisoners die in prison without being executed. Cruel murderers and others are mainly executed. Many may think this is barbaric, but it is a natural consequence of the feelings of the bereaved families.

Not because I didn't love my daughter as she was my world....but because taking his life wouldn't pay for or bring back my daughter and it would not give me any solace whatsoever. We Jews have a totally different outlook on "forgiveness". God will forgive you, for sins you commit against God, if you sincerely repent your misdeed. But there are unforgivable sins. Sins and wrongs that you commit against your fellow man can be forgiven ONLY by the person you wronged. You must ask him personally for forgiveness. If granted, what you have done is forgiven. If he refuses to forgive you, and you sincerely tried to repent that wrong, it is over, you cannot do any more. If you kill someone, how can a dead person possibly forgive you? He can't, and neither can God. For a friend or family member to say he forgives his child's murderer to us is absolutely ludicrous, bordering on stupid. You have no power to forgive. You can say it till the cows come home, you cannot forgive a murderer, God cannot forgive a murderer, Jesus cannot forgive a murderer. It is an unforgivable sin.

@arturrybakov546 The problem with the United States is the time between sentence and execution is usually several decades. If it were done within a reasonable amount of time, it would probably deter a lot of crime. I do like how the Japanese do not give you the execution date, no last visits from family. We baby the death row inmates with last visits with their family members, whatever last meal they desire in most cases.

In reality, the drop would of been alot longer and the body should be hanged from a higher position. Because of your weight, your body would actually stretch by an extra 20cm when you get hanged. And theres also a rule in Japanese death penalties that you cant touch the body for 15 minutes after its been hanged or that would be considered a form of “torture”.

@@MrEjidorie It is true that Tojo was positive about starting the war before he became prime minister. However, after becoming Prime Minister, he negotiated to avoid war, in accordance with Hirohito's request. However, the contents of the "Hull note" by the U.S. Secretary of State made Japan despair of negotiating an evasion. As for the demands of the "Hull note," an Indian judge at the postwar Tokyo Trials stated, "Under these terms, even the Principality of Monaco and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg would declare war on the United States." Isoroku Yamamoto was always negative about starting a war with the U.S., saying that the industrial production capacity of the U.S. was far greater than that of Japan and that Japan would lose in a prolonged war, etc. However, he reluctantly agreed to start the war on the condition that the war would be a short war and that negotiations for a peace treaty would be held early.

The published list of those sentenced to death in Japan goes back many years and appears to be reserved for those involved in multiple murders. Once sentenced there seems to be quite a prolonged period during which appeals can be made and the case and sentence fully reviewed to ensure it is valid so I have no issues with that aspect, however, the condemned should in my opinion at least be aware of the date set but only possibly 24 hours prior, it seems a cruel and unusual extension of punishment to leave them sitting day after day wondering if it is their turn today. As for how they treat them after the execution it is only right and proper they treat them with dignity. They have paid for their crime with their lives and have nothing left to give society after that.

The only thing is that the vast majority of convictions are secured through pressure by experienced mental manipulators, so that people often end up confessing to something they have not done. Japan's justice system is riddled with such cases.

A "crutch" is expected to hold on to the death row inmate when they make their final walk to the gallows and hang on to them until the trapdoor drops. In return for taking on such a stressful task, the crutch is usually given a weeklong vacation prior to the execution. Most of the movie is about the guard's vacation and his closeness with the prisoner.

In my opinion as a civilized person I state that the death penalty is not about justice, it’s only about revenge. I as a person might want revenge but the state has to be above that notion. The state has to be better. Criminal behavior must have consequences, and harsh once, too. But it has to be about rehabilitation also, even if the person stays behind bars for the rest of her or his life for terrible crimes. The death penalty is uncivilized and primitive and there is no question about that, just like torture. Which is what this is.
@唐澤貴洋-w8u Жыл бұрын
The nation is a human creation, and it cannot transcend man. The death penalty is the price for committing a serious crime, and the price deters crime by providing a fatal outcome for those who plan to commit the crime. It is also one of the purposes to exclude serious criminals who have no room for rehabilitation because they cannot be returned to society. It may seem barbaric, but this is considered necessary in Japan. Each has their own opinion.
