Context on the judge, from wiki: Abd al-Rahman is an ethnic Kurd from Halabja, the site of the 1988 Halabja poison gas attack.[1] He replaced Rizgar Mohammed Amin as chief judge[1] on 23 January 2006.[2] Amin had resigned after being criticised in the Iraqi media for appearing "too soft" on the defendants by allowing them to speak aloud in court without being recognized. After Amin's resignation, Abd al-Rahman headed the Supreme Iraqi Criminal Tribunal during the rest of the trial of Saddam Hussein for genocide, and when it sentenced him to death.[1] He also sentenced to death some of Hussein's top aides.[1] He was reportedly held and tortured by Hussein's security agents in the 1980s, and he lost several relatives in 1988 when his home town was hit by a poison gas attack, an attack ordered by Hussein and his cousin Ali Hassan al-Majid.

I remember how bizarre all of this was. Don't get me wrong, he deserved the death sentence, since he actually ended up in court. But as he was at his peak of his atrocities we condemned him for, we full well knew about all of them and allied with him against Iran. And he ended up in court because we invaded his country on 100% false pretenses which he was actually innocent of, we killed a bunch of civilians bombing the place, then arrested him and dragged him into court over things that had nothing to do with why we were supposedly there....because he was actually innocent of the stuff we said he did to make the case to invade in the first place. It was just the craziest shit. Because Saddam actually got what was coming to him for things he did in his past. But the path to get there was so dirty and dishonest, and also riddled with the death of innocents that we killed getting to him, that there was nothing gratifying about it. It just made us look no better than him.

Yeah exactly he got hanged for crimes of the past and not the lies that happened with the actual iraq invasion by the U.S. and other Nato members(UK). Might be part of the reasion why Putin does not tolerate Nato close to his Russian border. Nato was pretty much abused for some strange political agendas in that iraqi solution with no good results. The thing, is, Bush Senior was against invading iraq, but his son pushed for it there are documentaries about the case were both speak about it. Bush Senior could easily finish Saddams reign after the 2nd Gulf War allready, but did not for a reasion.
