I just tried it, and have great difficulty with the cross step plus I am exhausted after 2 minutes! Great video, this will improve your game.

Some people are wondering what impact have this training on your development and how is this any good in terms of strokes compared to actually hiting the ball with a partner. And here is the answer. All parts of the body have to take place in the stroke. Arm, waist, foots, shoulder, wrist. While developing your game till you become a very advanced player the right process is to increase your concistency at maximum and fix your strokes and movements to be the same. One common problem in mediocre players is that they dont have the same technique its time they do a stroke. This way in the video where you practice alone doing the strokes in the air, is the best way to always repeat the exact same movement and stroke. With a partner you never do the exact same thing even if you are standing still and doing a simple forehand drive. The placement of the ball should be very accurate with the exact same tempo and speed/power from each player in order to do so. But the interesting part is that at the end between all players this is the goal. To achieve this. And this means that you have become a very advanced player at least in terms of training. So basically they are seperating this from the next part which is to contact the ball. The goal is to fix their movement and technique and increase muscle memory. They best way to improve to table tennis is to ιsolate the things you have to practise into smaller parts and not practising them all together or else body and brain cannot coop perfectly doing it. So in conclusion with one sentence. They focus only on the exact movement, stroke repetition without partner and contact with the ball in order to increase their concistency on doing the exact same thing. Then they will scale this by practising in reality with a ball and then they will add randomness

I never learned like this and my footwork movement is limiting my progress. Shadow footwork and strokes is a great way to "groove" your movement. Yes, watching the ball and timing is next. But this makes sense to do as a warmup exercise or at home too. I will incorporate this into my game. Thanks, LA Guy PS: We lefties are smart and can figure this out.

I think this is a great way of feeling the body movement basics and also something one could do on resting days and in general to get a lot of hours in without huring your body in table tennis. If you cant do this in a relaxed manner, then you havent practiced the basics enough. Do you know if there is a follow along workout like this on youtube? Its great aerobic workout.

What does any of this have to do with Ma Long? Also, the balloons that say "Ma Long" and "Subscribe" don't actually have an annotation over them so they're useless. I like the idea behind this practice session although I'd rather do this when there is no practice partner available. If you have someone to practice with you might as well actually hit a ball and get feedback from its trajectory and the satisfaction of playing table tennis. In other words, you'll get better faster and in a more enjoyable way, so I don't see why one would opt to hit thin air instead.

I get coached at a professional table tennis club and honestly, I recognise these strokes but you can't necessarily say these strokes are good as they aren't hitting anything. I'd rather take multi-ball tasking and take feedback on it. And this isn't at all associating to Ma Long because Ma Long won't be doing this.
