Members of the British Army have been trying out different ways of working with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on Exercise Wessex Seahawk.
32 Regiment Royal Artillery, the Wessex Gunners, usually train on Salisbury Plain but travelled to Cornwall's Predannack Airfield, a site usually used by the Royal Navy's 700X Naval Air Squadron.
The Army headed to Cornwall to test their skills in a different environment and push the remotely piloted aircraft systems to the limit.

Always thought it was an odd capability to give the RA. I understand that they use the drones for FO’s but as they are piloting aircraft for general ISTAR I would have thought the Army Air Corps would have been more appropriate. But hey it doesn’t matter...just a thought.

Could be useful to get a visual update on target fire success, if they need to send a few more shells or mortars over, this will get over the target quicker than calling in a satellite or recon flight, whilst costing less.

Predannack airfield has a bunch of abandoned RAF aircraft. few sea kings, harriers, I think a Jaguar, what I think is a Canberra too. All in a sorry state and I think used as practice for trainee fire-fighters in the Raf until recently.
