After more than 8 months of practicing this, I have gone from 104kg (230lbs) to 81kg (181lbs). It is not much weight loss in those duration but I felt the healthiest I have ever been in my life at age 28 years. I felt that I have so much energy exercising during fasting state compare to consume meals before a workout. Having this, I encourage more people to fast and exercise. I have lost over 75 pounds. Down from 305. I Intermittent fast all day while working my construction job, and then eat between 5ish to 9ish. I also eat normally every weekend. Though I still almost naturally eat a lot less during the day even on non IF days. This has been amazing for me. I LOVE intermittent fasting. Has anyone noticed that IF totally changes your relationship with eating?? I don't even think about or desire to eat in my fasting periods. Huge for an over eater like me. Thank you. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes 22 months ago while in the hospital four days with pancreatitis. I have been taking Basaglar and Humalog since then. First 25 units of Basaglar each morning for about a year, then increasing to 35 units, then a few weeks ago my doctor said to increase to 50 units each morning. I thought.. this is ridiculous (and expensive), there has to be a better way. Then I found Dr. Fung on KZbin and watched probably 15-20 of his videos, including several conference presentations. He really spoke to me and I ordered The Complete Guide to Fasting and The Diabetes Code. I finished The Diabetes Code a week ago...what an amazing explanation of what's going on inside my body. I have been doing 18/6 intermittent fasting for about 3 weeks, eating around 1000 calories around noon and another 1000 calories around 6PM. I have already lost 15 pounds and 4/4/22 was my first day without any insulin in almost two years. This is the best I've felt in a long time and now am excited with hope!

I'm 70-years old and tired of being per-diabetic and over weight. From Mr. Fung's books, my eating window is 5:00PM to 8:00PM daily for the past 90-days. While not eating, I do water, coffee, or tea only. I do a kettlebell or body weight workout (heart rate up to 95% of max several times) for 30 or so minutes daily, then walk 2 miles at a relaxed cool down pace (20-22 minutes per mile). My basal metabolic rate is about 2200 calories so I limit intake to 1700 calories daily with macros of 20% carbs (really low sugar), 50% good fats, and 30% protein. I've dropped from 235 lbs. in January to 212 lbs. today and am rarely hungry. I don't go in for blood testing until mid-July, so not sure what's going on with triglycerides, glucose, etc. Hopefully improving. Dr. Fung is a national treasure.

I've been doing IF for a few years (17/7) and recently started doing weight training near the end of my fast. I take only 1,000 mg Taurine in the AM. I then take electrolytes, 2.8 grams Beta Alanine and 600 mg DMG during my work out. Because all the lactate buffering I get, the limit during my work out is a BODY HUNGER that is UNREAL. It is a totally different "HURT" then a muscle burn that is normally felt. The only issue is that it makes you CRAVE more sets... as intuitively my body something GREAT is happening. I just started doing my leg work out fasted and I am surprised how strong I am getting. At 67, I am squatting 480 lbs. I fast 15 hours everyday and lost 79lbs through diet and exercise. In the first 2years everything was great, lots of energy. But then I hit a plateau in strength training and seemed to struggle with it. Hard to increase weights or reps every other month and seemed I was straining just maintaining. So I consulted with a sports health coach exactly on the topic of before or after fast. They suggested to eat before workouts. I immediately found strength and push thru with ease. I can now increase exercise volume as scheduled, have more energy throughout day, hence burn more energy. Note, since already at my body weight target strength increase is the priority at 63 years of age. In fact, body weight is slightly increasing but I also am finally seeing muscle hypertrophy. I consider a more holistic approach to lifestyle and adjust accordingly. These videos are great sources to learn and discover different approaches that may fit your lifestyle. Thanks.

I definitely prefer training in a fasted state because I think I get more out of it. But I also think sooner or later we will not have a choice. Food is becoming more expensive and harder to find. The world is increasingly becoming unstable. Weather patterns and a lot of places are really starting to suck. So I would rather try to do it in a controlled setting then finding out the hard way. That way when the real hard times really start, I will not suffer nor and near as much as most people will.

I have been OMAD since Nov 2017. For much of last few years, I coached tennis 7 days a week while fasting. At one point, i was coaching 49 hours a week. Last year, I started taking Wednesdays off of coaching... to have a day of chiropractic, massage, and PNF stretching. After the therapy, I go to play badminton for a few hours. As a result, I have been able to maintain body composition (12% bodyfat) and weight within 5 lbs of my ideal weight (for playing competitive tennis). When I lose discipline and gain weight and bodyfat, I have done extended fasts to get things back into range. 48 hour fasts are a piece of cake now because I don't get hungry at all. I have done a number of fasts of 72-98 hours. My challenge is not hunger (because i think my body is used to not producing ghrelin), but the desire to taste food (which I love) and enjoy the act of eating. I bought and read Dr. Fung's books and have many of his videos saved in the Fasting playlist that I share with others (close to 70 videos). I started coaching 3 people on intermittent fasting who I met during the past 2 weeks. As living proof that fasting works, I am on a mission to share this information with everyone who will listen!

Your labs should continue to get much better still if you continue intermittent fasting and reduce sugar/carbs. I have been fasting 17-18 hrs everyday for over 3 years with a 48 hr fast about once per month and I have also improved my diet (strictly limit sugar/carbs), and my labs are all great. I no longer take ANY meds and my fasting labs (lipids, glucose, metabolic panel, blood panel, etc) are all within healthy ranges. My TG/HDL ratio = 0.6 and any result less than 1 is considered to be protective against heart disease. Fasting, healthy diet, routine exercise and a few high quality supplements are all you need to stay in optimal health.

Thank you Jason amazing stuff!! I used to weigh around 230 lbs before I started fasting and exercising. Now after 2 years following this lifestyle I am only 140 lbs!! I love working out while fasting it makes me feel so alive. Sometimes I ran Marathons during my monthly fasts. I ran the Berlin Marathon last year and I hadn't eaten for 12 days!! Only drinking salted(moon salt) water every now and then. After the Marathon I wasn't hungry at all. My girl friend gave me some ice cream but I didn't eat it. Directly after the Marathon some friends suggested a hike up in the Alps. I said yes. They thought I was completely crazy. We hiked until midnight because we got lost. Still no food. I wasn't feeling hungry at all. I finally broke my fast after 30 days. I broke the fast with some fresh bugs covered with a little bit of dirt from mother earth.Then I had some nice Goats milk directly from my lovely goat Emma. Cockroaches and worms are my favorite. In general I avoid eating carbs and sugar. But I sometimes eat oats soaked in cat's milk .(always organic) Apart from bugs I like eating big juicy Kangaroo steaks. I now can ran a Marathon in under 2:30 minutes. Sometimes before hard workouts I eat some baby food for energy. I will be soon training for the Olympics. I feel much more alert and smarter. When I don't exercise, I actually have more problem with hunger and lack of energy! I admit that I don't do a great deal of high intensity exercise (bad of me, I know); I walk a few miles 3 to 5 days per week and lately added a swim of about a kilometer to my activity. To me, it feels like the gentle exercise kinda kicks my body into mobilising my fat so I get energy in my blood and don't feel hungry. I do feel empty (which is actually a nice feeling, I've learned) but not hungry. Sometimes I even feel a bit of a buzz after the exercise, which is wonderful. I'm mid 50s, started mid August 2021, OMAD with low-ish carb diet (waver between keto and low carb). I eat a big 800-1400 calorie dinner around 5-6pm and I generally exercise somewhere around mid morning (about 15 hrs fasted. I don't eat after my exercise (nor do I need to! all my energy has just been mobilised). It's perfect for me! I'm actually kinda dreading hitting my target weight cos then I'll have to start eating more often and eating a small meal just makes me hungry later, which is gonna be a problem. I've lost 20.5 kg since last August and still have about 5.5kg to go. I need to start getting my head around how I'm gonna transition to maintenance diet in a way that doesn't trigger food cravings.

Intense exercise causes hunger. Things like walking might actually help. And will relieve boredom, which is an issue when people are in the habit of snacking. Avoid snacking only eat at meals, and that will solve many problems.

Sugar, starge and processed foods will make you feel hungry ± 2 ours later, because than your blood sugar level is becoming low again, it's less of n issue when/now your body is fat adapted( used to burning fat for fuel).

I usually workout in a gym with weight lifting. I'm on my 5-day water only fasting challenge and it's a 5th day today (it's not the first time btw, I did before a few times 3 and 5 day fasting). Well, exercising on the 1 day was pretty normal as usual, 3rd day was tough, I could barely make through the half of my exercises, heartrate was too high and I was sweating real hard plus a slight dizziness. So I decided to take it easy and do not exercise for the next two days, just evening walks outside for a couple hours. But when it's an easy fasting like OMAD or two meals in alternate day, everything goes just well, no problem. Thanks for your videos Jason! they're real motivating.

Thank you for taking the time to share all of this information. Glad to see that it’s helping folks. A few questions: 1. Will performance be affected when exercise includes high intensity training such as VO2 max intervals on a bicycle, training explosive movements such as Olympic weightlifting movements or having extended high threshold efforts (1-2 hrs)? 2. Is fasting a good strategy for increasing athletic performance or mainly focusing on weight loss? 3. Should I consider fasting while partaking in 4-6 days of bicycle training where 3-4 days are 1-2 hours of high intensity (700-1500 calories) and the others are easier steady state sessions? I appreciate any time you take towards answering my questions and glad that so many have found your content helpful

@louiseevans96362 жыл бұрын
@@JohnsonNestorFamily I think I stay motivated by reminding myself of the health benefits of longer fasts. Your cells get rid of waste materials accumulated while doing their job, AGE’s (advanced glycation end products) that line the arteries start to decrease, inflammation and B/P goes down, fatty liver is cleared, BDNF is produced improving memory and increases neurons, cancers cells killed as well as molds and viruses, stem cell production and growth hormone increases so when you stop fasting and eat healthy your body replaces the unhealthy cells with new ones and heals itself. On the spiritual side, I spend more time focusing on God and reading my Bible. It helps me to walk in the Spirit.

I started 16/8 IF a little over 2 weeks ago. Also got my doctor to rx me a GCM since I am currently non medicated type 2. In just these past two weeks following the 16/8 I am already seeing my BG levels normalizing again. Something I have had such a hard time with. I do see a spike around my workouts, but nothing major and calms down within 2 hours after my workout is over, then remains in normal range the rest of the day. All the traditional "diet/eating" plans that my medical team told me I needed to follow was big part of my issues. Eating too often and too more carbs than my body handles well, even though I was staying under their daily recommended levels, I actually cut the carbs by 1/3 and my body feels so much better. Getting used to the 16/8 and hunger pangs wasn't super hard either. I am surprised at how much energy I have after only two weeks. I am now up early in the morning, head to the gym and get a good workout then on with my day. Why don't more doctors suggest IF and lowering carbs for treating diabetes?

@@jacksonposhee4687 Not sure if you've watched Dr. Fung's video about not overeating when you break your fast to make up for the missed calories. Before I committed to my weight loss plan I ate or gave away all breads, pasta, rice, citrus, fruits, sugar, artificial sweeteners, plant based cooking oils and condiments. Then from day one I started OMAD. My daily food intake usually : A 15 ounce cup of coffee with 2 Truvia ( stevia leaf extract, erythritol) =2 carbs per packet so 4 carbs total and a 1/8th of a stick of butter in with the coffee. Lunch at noon I usually eat 3 chicken thighs w/skin and sometimes 1/4 cup of raw pecans so about 4 carbs for the pecans. I also have (2) 16.9 OZ bottles of Crystal Lite Citrus w/Caffeine but mix one packet into a single bottle, mix it good then poor half of it into an empty bottle and top off both bottles with just water so about 1 carb for each bottle for a total of 2 carbs. i also have 2 one gallon jugs in my refrigerator at home that also are mixed 1/2 strength Crystal Lite Lemonade so it comes out about the same 1 carb per glass and I usually drink 2 sometimes three before bed. So at most I consume less than 20 carbs a day. My Ketosis sticks have always been pink or much darker since day 2. I have just started doing 48 hour fasting twice now and the keto sticks were more purple than the example on the side of the container they came in. I'm 60 and the only exercise I get is standing at work as much as possible and walking my 9 year old Siberian Husky. I took my first weigh in on June 13th @241lbs and on July 23 @ 212lbs. I still have 47lbs of fat to burn and know I'll be able to do this using OMAD and the great information Dr. Fung, Dr Ekberg and Dr Berg ,Dr. Berry are giving.
