Dt. Seema has over 19 years of experience in Dietetic Counseling with various prestigious organizations. She has done Masters (M.Sc. - Foods & Nutrition) from Lady Irwin College, University of Delhi. She has worked with PGI Chandigarh and counselled numerous diabetic patients. Furthermore, she is also a columnist with The Hindustan Times, The Tribune and The Times of India, Chandigarh and Jaipur edition.
Today, I am going to show you some exercises to relieve peripheral neuropathy.
This is commonly seen in diabetic patients and generally, it’s symptoms are tingling sensation in the feet and hands. The reason for this is because the nerves become inactive.
So to activate these nerves, we have to do certain exercises to improve the blood circulation to the nerves. We are going to focus on the feet exercises today. you have to keep your spine erect and your core should be tight Keep breathing in and out simultaneously. knees should be straight The first exercise involves calf muscle stretch.
Bring toes towards your body You can do it for 10 counts initially and progress up to 30 counts gradually. The second exercise is to rotate your ankles ( ankle circles). rotate your ankles slowly Keep breathing in and out simultaneously.
The next exercise is going to be standing up with the support of a chair. move heels upwards move heels back to resting position move toes upwards now we will focus on the balance of the legs take the support of the chair lift one heel to knee level repeat using the other leg if you are confident, you can do it without the support of the chair now we will do leg raises lay down on your back move one knee upwards move heel outwards bring the straight leg to the level of the bent leg now take support of one elbow one leg bent and one leg straight I hope you liked the video if you have any queries, you can ask in the comment section
