This video has proved controversial so I wanted to clarify some of the common threads that keep coming up.!. 1) I was negative as soon as I got on the bike. I would disagree with that , I was actually really impressed about the layout , and had got to the queue to ride one at 6:30am to make sure I did, but in the back of my mind I knew there was more to think about than just the bike, I had a duty to tell the viewers,some of whom may be placing hard-earned cash on buying one of these and I had to share my views on the bike and everything that goes with it. when I mentoned about the slow speed steering being a little odd,as I said it wasn't a negative, infact it was a positive in some ways because it made it less "twitchy" . It was an important observation which didn't corollate to any other bike I have ridden in the past. 2) I was basing all of this on "what happened to my mate" - partly yes,but also I have kept an eye on the forums for the last 2-3 years , he was not alone. and being offroad for 3 months due to parts is totally unacceptable, how would you feel if it was you're only means of transport??? Would you like me to mention this or gloss over it nextime and let people invest there money then cross fingers that they won't be in the same boat? 3) "They must be amazing because they are sold out until 2025" Well OK , but the truth is at the time of writing this there were only 15 in the country with no date for replenishment, so of course they will be sold out and infact some of those 15 were demo dealer bikes anyway. Some people have commented here that their local dealer is saying they wont get any until February.... 8 months away? So yes they are sold out, but the real bigger picture is different than the one portrayed. Overall I really want this bike and brand to work, but so far it's been rocky. This 450 is a nice little bike for many and their has been a lot of hype over it which is great ,but I want to deliver the facts as I see it rather than get "star struck" and "blinkered" by a low cost, high spec bike. What people don't see when watching this is the comments I get 2 years later on videos with people who have had issues and look at me that I never mentioned this even though it was known at the time. I will always bring you my view on things , I have whistle blown in the past and been right most (I think all) of the time . A good example is the moto Morrini brand - Good bikes but again ,no one mentions the parts issue and the fact that finding a dealer is quite complicated!!! So the people who own them now....what happens when it goes wrong!?!?!? This 450 is a good bike, but time will tell if the "whole package" works....I hope so. Reviewing bikes is like painting a picture....it's really hard to bring the good and the not so good and package it to give an over-all view and its something I have done well with over the years and will continue to do so. People want honestly , but when it goes against the grain of what they want to hearit gets a bit salty as my kids would say lol. The 800MT review is coming up, again nice bike partly based on the KTM790 engine which in the past has been known for snapping camshafts...hopfully that has been up-dated now and all will be fine. CFmoto also need to hear these reviews,and they will be watching so it also lets them know where they can improve. Re-sale value is also "I think " a relevant part, If you buy a brilliant Honda NX500 this year for £6800, next year you could sell it for 10% of it's price , could the same be said here? I'm not so sure. I hope CFmoto bring us what we all want from the brand, low cost, highly specified bikes. And I hope they prove reliable and parts will be easy to access in time. Note this review is based on UK infrastructure, not U.S or Australia for example where they are set up better. Cheers E.R

To be honest I didn't think you were biased in your review, you pointed out good and bad. I don't know much about CFMoto as there are no dealers near me stocking the brand. The parts issue does affect other brands, RE have had issues with warranty work, my friend bought a new 411 last year and had to wait over 3 months for a replacement fuel pump via warranty. Resale value is another elephant in the room, if you like changing bikes every 12 months then I think you will take a big hit, I know this is true of all brands but Chinese bikes tend to suffer worst of all. I have nothing against Chinese bikes as I have had a Lexmoto scooter for 6 years now without any issues and spares are easy to get although I've only needed service items. I will watch with interest both Charlie and Nathans experience of the 450MT as this is in a segment of bikes I'm interested in. Keep up the good work

I mean, you get what you pay for. It has always been like that. The bike seems decent enough and you get a lot of bike for 6000€ - Brand New. You can't get a decent used bike for that price if you are searching for Honda or any of the popular brands and man, I have some stories for yamaha, kawasaki and other popular brands that will spin your head. Still, love the honesty. People on YT push these to the audience just for a quick pay day without a proper test. Let's see how they'll hold up after 10,000km + Sub deserved :)

I'm gonna be frank here. Your attitude coming into this review seemed negative. There was nothing up beat, or completely open about it, which is disappointing. You sounded so uninterested. You should go into it, putting your preconceptions aside, and then make a judgement afterwards. You made a lot of points which were negative based on other peoples experiences but never touched on the good experiences people have had. Do you not think that is biased? I do watch your videos and have done for years, but I am disappointed. I think you should lay out some points before you think about reviewing bikes in the future so it doesn't come across so badly. Your view is your view regardless of what others think, and I respect that, but make a conscious effort to be more unbiased by providing good and bad points that reflect the points you raise. Keep up the good work and God bless. 👍🏿

Thanks but that's the point. Could I recommend this bike.... No I couldn't. If it goes wrong, from info I have gathered over the years, the parts issue, and reliability has been abismal, so that's what I need to go on. As I say the bike is OK, and the spec is good, but that dosent mean I can say it's good be because the whole package isn't there. I wouldn't rant anyone to buy one of these then find out, I wouldn't be doing my job. I was being unbiased and said positive things aswell, but they need to address the other issues, that's the fact. Thanks for watching mate👍📺

@@exeterrider I think you misunderstood what I meant. I was not stating that you need to say it is a good bike. It's the way in which you presented the information and the attitude with which it was stated. Anyone can make a point without sounding uninterested or somewhat resentful which is what you sounded like from the beginning, instead of of just clearing those thoughts and having a bit of positive energy and excitement about reviewing a new bike. Then you could have stated that I will go over the specs and provide my experience from the ride I go on and then give you my judgement based on that ride. Then I will delve into experiences and information I have gathered from others to provide an insight into ownership, maintenance and other issues I feel need to be raised. That would have made the review structured and unbiased. I expect this from any youtuber not just yourself. Maybe you just don't have the enthusiasm to do this anymore or you were just having a bad day but, I expect better. This is not meant to offend you but, provide constructive honesty criticism of your work.

An interesting take on the MT and CF in general Steve. I wasn’t aware of part supply issues but as a long term Honda rider (44 years of using their bikes all year round) I’ve never waited excessively for a part or had poor back up. My reluctance for the CF brand stems from the nearest dealer being four counties or approximately 109 miles away apparently!

I like ER 's videos because he never goes ott about any bike he rides. I think he adopts a pragmatic approach to his review. A bikes a bike, he likes some more than others, he points out what he likes and doesn't like. Says it's his opinion and it may not be yours. Try it for yourself. I will say this though, having spent all my working life in the motor repair trade, reliability and dealer support is a major factor in my buying decision. That's why I drive Honda CRV and ride a Honda CB500 Hornet. Cars and motorbikes are getting increasingly complicated, and difficult and costly to fix so for me reliability is paramount. I think it's fair to say my choice of motorised transport isn't the most exciting mode of transport, but they are well put together with well established dealer support network should you ever need it. Everything's fine until it goes wrong.

Its a damn shame what happened to Ash Tek biker with his MT. He got caught up right in the meley of importer change over. There is no accountability, no one knows anything & he was stuck in the middle without support. I think his service centre screwed him up with replacing the spark plugs by pulling the tank off without checking if the wiring connector & fuel connector had been unplugged. Its the first time that's ever happened on the 650MT ever. No one i know has ever had this issue. More issues from the Kawasaki based engine than the fuel tank. Ignition coils, & dash gear issues are more common than a broken fuel tank harness & fuel line. Now, with another brand, he's a much happier camper. He's down your way.

Also what your thoughts are about CF Moto brand are spot on - they have a long way to go winning trust and confidence with motorcyclists and there are no short cuts to this. Moreover, I think the dealer network, wait times on parts, and also looking at the hype this machine caused (which is a very good machine don't get me wrong) vs how it actually is, makes it just a regular offering and else can be had in this money.

Your point about dealership infrastructure is very valid. Take Denmark for instance. There is only 1 dealer. 5 hour drive from my location. Over a toll bridge. And that dealership is mainly ATVs. They only started selling CFMOTO motorcycles last year. So yeah, while the bike is tempting and 99% of reviews are high praise I do worry about the potential hassle if/when something goes wrong. I just sold my KTM 890 Adventure mainly because of all the issues out there. It'll take brave souls and KZbin content creators that buy these bikes and report on them in the coming years to let some of us know how the service and reliability hold up. A friend in Portugal bought one and he will definitely put the bike through its paces. OFFroad-OFFcourse, if anyone wants to follow him. My local Husqvarna/Honda/Yamaha/Kawasaki dealer doesn't carry the CFmoto motorcycles but they carry the side by sides and quads. I'm not sure why that is.

Yes the quads are/were a different distributer. Not sure how it works now KTM have taken over. I think the 800mt shares the top end with the 890 isn't that right? Could be wrong. But I have heard they snap and is a known issue. Hopfully not! 😏

@@exeterrider The cam issue was a concern, I had mine checked before I sold it and luckily my bike was in good shape. I serviced my bike meticulously and being the standard model I wasn’t thrashing it in punishing terrain like some riders do the R model. Shortly after I bought the bike I was talking to the shop I bought it from about some of the things I’d heard about the TFT being susceptible to moisture on the inside and asked about the bikes’ reliability and his response to me was along the lines of “Did you buy the extended warranty? That might be a good idea.” I told him that he wasn’t making me feel good about my purchase and the bike has a two year warranty. I knew at that point that the bike wasn’t going to be a long term bike for me and I replaced it with a Tenere 700. I would lump CFmoto into a similar situation if they are having KTM handle things for them. I’m usually harassed with stuff like, “If you want performance this is what you’ll have.” Luckily I’m in my late 50’s, reliability trumps performance bragging rights for me.

Just to add... I've now got 700 miles on the clock and I absolutely love this bike. Engine is a peach virtually vibe free (even with the rubbers removed from the footpegs) and the (road) handling is way beyond what I would have expected for a 21" wheeled bike. No complaints with comfort either. Met my first other owner yesterday (West Bay Dorset), got chatting and we are both of the same opinion. Amazing bike and at a price that defies belief. Of course the elephant in the room is will it be reliable? Only time will tell, but I intend to find out. Few grumbles. Throttle at low revs, especially when cold can be snatchy. The Aussies have a re-map to cure it but, presumably because of current Euro emissions, we don't seem to have it (yet). Weird position of high/low beam switch means I'm constantly knocking it accidentally. Front brake does lack feel and needs some force to get it to work, but it certainly does do the job. Possibly a pad swap would help? Not a game changer though. I think the gearing is a little low so put a 15t front sprocket on mine. More of a preference than a grumble though. The built in tracking system that sends you a text every time you move the bike which can be a bit annoying but it's there to warn you if someone's trying to steal your bike so, on the whole, it's got to be a good thing. (It also tracks your bike via GPS and so, if someone does steal your bike, you should be able to see where it is). It can be turned off if you prefer.

Confusing naming conventions :/ The 650 twin would be a sweet spot imho, providing sufficient power for road use and sufficient torque for dirt, still in a compact package. If you want to see what this bike is capable of when taking it off road or down the green lanes, I’d recommend looking at Nathan Millward’s channel. The spares and ownership issue can be very subjective, and might have changed significantly since KTM have entered into a collaboration with CFMoto. Time will tell, but seeing as all 450MT’s have now been sold until 2025, at least there’s time to see what the build quality is and how robust all the parts will be.
@exeterrider
@exeterrider 2 ай бұрын
Yes Nathan will give his a good blast for sure...the "sold out " part dosent mean a lot to me when there was a shipment of 15 units to the UK...They are bound to sell out and no date for the next replenishment. And some of those 15 will be dealer demo bike I expect , so sold out isn't what it really sounds like when there is only 15 units. Some are saying that is it untill February!? So will that mean parts are the same!?!?! This is the point I'm getting at. As you say KTM may turn it around...but not yet it seems.

@@exeterrider I messaged a dealer last week. There’s another shipment coming next month, and then there might be another before the end of the year. All the August ones are sold, and the recommendation was to put down a deposit in case someone cancels. I think waiting until 2025 is wiser as the new KTM 390 should be out, the tubeless Himalayans should be available, and any initial niggles will hopefully be resolved. Plus there might be some other offerings on the market - I’d like to see a Kawasaki 450 using the engine from the ZX / Eliminator.

The Himalayan is streets ahead of the 450MT in terms of ride. I've managed to ride the Himmy on and off road, and the 450 only on road. I was SO impressed with the Himmy. Granted, the tyres weren't good for grass, but DAMN, they stick to the road like glue. Even with slippy tyres, the Himmy was a joy to ride and a friend of mine - multi-times Enduro champion - took it for a test ride and tried to break it. He couldn't. It took everything he threw at it, and he's been like 'Get this bike'.

Interesting video Steve but I do think things will work out differently with regards resale. The 450 MT, they can't get enough of them. Sold out until 2025. They will hold their value. The Himalayan there's an abundance of bikes. A lot of cancelled orders. It'll be interesting to see how it pans out, but I think it'll be the CF Moto that clings onto the money. The parts situation we'll have to wait and see. I agree a lot of what holds the fledgling bikes back is the parts supply. I know people with Morini 650s that can't get parts. The importers in that regards are poor. But for the Voge 300 Rally you can get everything you need very cheaply. So it's very much importer dependent. Personally I just really liked the bike. Ticked a lot of boxes for me. Shame they weren't allowing the bike around the ABR track. Maybe that would have helped impress it on people. Who knows. Maybe it'll be a dud.

To be fair royal Enfield had a period where you couldn't get warranty parts for the bikes after the switch from moto GB, and that triumph 400 you can't get brake levers or pads at dealers so have to get the KTM alternativs. Hopefully cf moto ups their game beyond where some of the others are currently at. If the C*inese are keen to break into the market they could solve those issues if they so wanted, They're big enough and powerful enough to to it, I wonder why they don't? The bikes have vastly improved over the years but the essentials behind the scenes... not so much! Good review mate, saying it like it is..... CF Moto? Too many "what ifs" for me i'm afraid. "Too many what ifs". Very well put. What if you have a bit of a topple... Do a little bit of damage... And you can't buy the bits to rectify the damage. That's simply no good. And that's the point. It then doesn't matter how good it rides, how smooth it is, or how fantastic it sounds. If it's off the road due to crappy after sales backup, then it's a rubbish prospect for sure. When considering a bike for potential ownership it's essential to think about every single aspect. I'm with ER on this one... Let the early adopters test the water, then decide.

Got replacement clutch lever, pivot bolt in 5 days. Rear suspension has threaded type adjustments, so it can't be on the "2nd hardest setting." I have no idea what your steering comment is all about? I have 6 bikes right now, and don't feel anything weird getting on the MT450. My only "complaint" is the super short final gearing. I bought this as a lighter dirt capable ADV bike. Very fair review and comments on supply of parts. A big corporation from China with their out put should be able to deliver in this day and age. I'd like to see a 400-500 cc Honda Transalp or Suzuki V-Strom. In particular the Suzuki as it's now a parallel twin not V which I presume is cheaper to produce. This time next year this bracket will be my 2cnd or 3rd bike. So I hope the Japanese move into this market.

Exactly. I've been waiting patiently and angrily for a 450cc or 650cc parallel twin KLR650 or DR650 Enduro for a very long time. I've always wanted a KLR650, because it's a heavy clunker that is useless, and awesome. But I've always loathed the single cylinder engine, and I've always thought, if it just had a higher revving parallel twin, it would be a joy to ride. A parallel twin is an infinitely better motor for a road legal motorcycle. Single cylinder motorcycles should not be built anymore for road legal motorcycles.

the bike has a glaring issue not many reviewer is saying which is uderstandable as they don't have the bike for long to know or experienced this issue. the issue is the lean fuelling making intermittent stalling while clutched in on low gears, people should know it's dangerous and is a deal breaker (at least for me), I have dumped the bike in my garage due to it and almost hit a car few days ago also due to it. No official word from Cfmoto if a fix ia coming although rumors says the NZ owners already have it in their first service but until then, be aware of this issue.

Hi Exmouth, watched this one last night. One thing I noticed was that it seemed to be revving pretty high at 60 mph in sixth gear. The Himalayan 411 critics want a bike that will cruise at 70 mph for some reason. My guess is that this bike will be pretty busy at 70 mph, thereby failing in the one thing you would expect it to do better than the Himalayan 411 and 452. I think most owners in the UK would be looking to go one larger on the front sprocket because then, in theory, this bike COULD BE a motorway tourer. I think CF Moto should have geared it up a bit for the UK market, judging by what I saw in this video. Apart from the somewhat low gearing for motorway work, I imagine that this is a pretty decent bike. Unfortunately, as you say, that doesn't really matter if you have no confidence in the brand, the resale values and the longer term parts backup. It's a shame really. It looks like CF Moto did a decent job with this bike but unfortunately we're still at the point where you'd have to be pretty brave to go out and buy one. A nice little review and thanks for getting up early to book the test ride mate ! Love from Spain, Garry & Ruby

I replied to this and its gone! Yes I tend to agree, a different cog could help, but to be honest it felt OK to me at the higher end,,,VERY smooth at higher revs, it was impressive in that department. I wouldn't want to risk my money on something which may be a issue 2-3 years down the line.

@@exeterrider It's a real shame that the 452 is so vibey at motorway speeds. It has the performance to do it but the vibes are going to make any long distance motorway stint pretty unpleasant. It's a real shame. Otherwise I think I would have probably gone for one, mainly for the tubeless rims and of course the added long distance capability should I ever need it. This bike probably is the unicorn that a lot of people were waiting for. The near perfect lightweight ADV bike. Capable for touring and off-road shenanigans. At the start of the year triumph owners were waiting 6 months for parts , so you best tell they world they cannot be trusted either. Hi Dave, it's not just based on my mates issues which there was a list, but also based on running information I have gathered the last few years,and its been a choppy run. I can't recommend a bike knowing the background foundation is sub standard should anything go wrong. I gave the positives of the bike but for me, when giving an opinion of a bike you are kinda "painting a picture", and it would be unprofessional for me to paint the picture saying the bike is fantastic but then the important point of parts etc just slides by. When I got on the bike there were no pre-conceptions , and some elements of it were really good as mentioned but I wouldn't want someone to buy one (note some people are saying no bikes till February!! , so if a new bike breaks I expect the parts may not come for the same amount of time....maybe! = not acceptable to be off the road for that long) I don't think the quality is better than the Himy tbh,its about the same ,or slightly better on the Himy I'd say. The suspension is far better on the Himalayan for sure. (Showa) I'd like to do a long term on the bikes but no chance now ha.... Hope your all well , and I take your points onboard: )

Hello my friend ER, I take into account all you have said good & bad about the brand & the bike, it is relatively new to me this brand of motorcycle & I have read that they started in 1989 😳 The initial look of these new models to me looks like they’ve got the styling bang on for adventure, they are using older KTM engines I believe 🤔 if they’ve improved on the electrics then they could be good! CF Moto recon on 30 dealerships in the UK and as these are now entering the realms of the big boys with supposedly premium products, and as these are new models there is naturally going to be a shortage of service & parts, until they get themselves sorted out! I myself am wary of Chinese products but they don’t arf learn fast & we can only judge these models as of the present day. Open minded I am 🙂

Sure I know there is a ton of stuff in everybody's house including mine, but that is to do with lack of alternatives to purchase.
