When making brackets I find it best to use dividers to gauge distances and transfer it to the material. Difficult to explain in words but really simple to demonstrate.

I think the center punch del uses isn’t the best for him.. it’s easy to pull yourself off center when you pull back the spring and let it go.. compared to a nice starrett auto center punch, or the old fashioned center punch and hammer lol..
