So... just finished doing mine, using THIS video as my guide. Before I started I was semi-terrified to tackle this, but after watching this video several times and then following along as we worked, it was actually not nearly as difficult as we thought! Just took it to the check station and passed emissions, I couldn’t have done this without your video, thank you very much!

Sadly my manifold has tons of holes in it. Replacing it once again. Perhaps that “flex” version isn’t as good? I bought a different style this time. We’ll see if it lasts!

This video just saved me a ton of money. The one extra step I took was removing the fuel rail and injectors because I found it very difficult to find room to turn a ratchet on the top bolts. This made the job a lot easier, just had to learn that I had to grease the injectors to get them back in easily without leaking (as they did on my first try). Another small tip I might add is the reverse of your tip about setting up the bottom manifold bolts up to lay the intake manifold on when reinstalling. Since it's tough to get to those bottom bolts when removing them and easy to drop, just loosen them a few turns at first. Then when the top bolts are off the you can lift off the intake manifold and then the bottom bolts are exposed and you can finish removing them. Thanks so much for making this video.

Speaking of injectors, the ones I've got are the original I think, over 20 years old at this point. Not sure it's worth springing for a brand new set but I've seen those sets of refurbished Bosh 4-hole injectors that supposedly better atomize the injected fuel. Do you have any experience of these? $160 new but $60 for a refurbished set.

Great idea on putting the bolts in the bottom first. The bottom bolts are a difficult step in the process. Thanks!

Thanks for this video, it helped me a lot. I couldn’t get my fuel line off, I guess the clip is just stuck so I took the fuel rail off and zip tied it out of the way. Another thing, I found the easiest way to get at the manifold bolts on the bottom was to crawl underneath the Jeep and use and extension on the ratchet. I also didn’t torque the bolts properly and had a huge vacuum leak so it idled way to high. Lesson learned. Hope this comment helps other jeepers

Hey! Thanks. You can do it. It’s really not that hard. Just take your time, don’t rush it. Be meticulous with noting how things come apart and go back together. You may run into some issues, but that’s how you learn. Also, taking pictures as you go along is a good idea.

one thing you forgot to show was how to remove the metal fastener clips from the injector connectors, they are hard to see when covered with grime and someone could just pry away and wreck the connector if they miss the clip. these are the details DIY's need to see.

Darn, I just noticed mine is cracked as well, and the Amazon link is gone. What brand was that ? Great video, Thanks'. Unfortunately the very first Exhaust manifold bolt is gone on my 93, apparently someone tried to remove it and it broke off. So that will end up more involved than I had hoped. Stuck a probe in there and I only get in the thickness of the manifold . Have to figure out how I'll get the remainder removed. Anyway, great help from your video.

Dale, In your engine removal video, I noticed that you took the exhaust and intake manifold off before pulling the engine. Is that necessary? Could I just disconnect the exhaust manifold from the header or exhaust pipe, pull the engine and remove the exhaust and intake manifold once I have it on the engine stand? Thanks for your advice. Dale, one more question. I'm in the process of pulling and replacing the engine on a 1995 YJ 4.0 L. that I just bought. I'm not brave enough to overhaul an engine. Not sure what your gasket lookes like, but you should only need 1. As long as there is a gasket between any metal to metal pieces going together where the manifold bolts up.

Really good video! One thing: I was pretty worried about all the comments regarding those 4 lower bolts (impossible to reach etc); I did the job yesterday, and had very little difficulty reaching those bolts. Sure, they are not visible, so you need to locate them by feel, but with a 10" extension and a regular 9/16" socket, I was able to remove and reinstall the bolts without any issue, even with a large torque wrench...
@JeepSolid
@JeepSolid 6 жыл бұрын

Every time I start my 2001 2.5L Jeep tj, it sounds a bit like a tractor. I can't see any cracks on the manifold, is it possible that it could be leaking where the manifold connects to the down pipe? Is there a gasket or seal there that wears out or gets old? The tractor noise also seems to go away as the engine warms up. Any thoughts?
@BroncoSolid

@BroncoSolid
@BroncoSolid 7 жыл бұрын
My two cents, if you're still experiencing leaks after trying two different gaskets, the problem isn't the gasket. It's the surfaces you're trying to mate. Was it torqued properly? Did you use any sealant when not called for? Just throwing out some ideas.
