Exhaust Manifold Replacement on 2003-2006 Mitsubishi Montero Gen3 3.8L V6

This procedure is very similar on the 2001-2002 Montero with the 3.5L V6, the hardest part on that job being that the EGR tube on the driver side is hard to access.

my transmission dipstick was really stuck because the way it connects to the transmission pan lets dirt build up on top of the o ring and i think it had been left alone for 20 years. so it was packed full of garbage and took some fighting to remove. i wasn't doing manifolds, i was replacing the transmission filter and cleaning the pan magnets. also my motor mounts are ripped in half and i think they might be causing a rattling noise at higher rpm and low load.

Ya, engine rattling is a common symptom of bad mounts.

@luso_overland what about if you get a p0421 error Warm-Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold ? I don't hear any noises. The p0421 even clears itself after a few weeks but only to return again.

There would usually be other codes as well if there was a vacuum leak (like a broken exhaust manifold). That code points to a problem with the driver side precat. You might want to try a bottle of cataclean to see what happens. amzn.to/3U7EBpw

Thank you for your reply. I've already run several cleaners thru. Maybe there is a bad connection. I prob should try to monitor the 2nd cat voltage and go the more technical route.
