Hi AramisDeVannes, The muffler body size is more dependent on the area beneath the car that you have available to hang a muffler in. A full exhaust in a 2” diameter pipe consistently from front to rear would be a good choice for your application. Thank you for watching!
@shannonquickly7175 жыл бұрын
As you explained very clearly, the role of the #exhaustclamp is to connect two pipes together. There are many varieties, such as v-shaped, u-shaped, o-shaped, variable diameter, strong and so on, And different sizes, different materials
@SummitRacing11 жыл бұрын
A slight increase such as 2.25” will work out just fine! Going too large will actually slow exhaust flow due to the extra surface area inside the pipe and hamper the scavenging effect.
@SummitRacing11 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob King, Yes, if you have a pipe that is 2.5” O.D., than a 2.5” inlet on the tip you choose will be correct. You are also correct in your assumption that the tip will not affect the overall sound of your system providing the tip is open internally. In other words, as long as the tip has no baffling or packing of any type.
@SummitRacing11 жыл бұрын
In the industry, exhaust pipe is measured on the outside diameter while mufflers are measured internally. That way the mufflers will slip over the pipes for best seal. There are also adapters available if you decide to jump up to 3 inch. Give us a call on our tech line and we can assist you in picking out the correct parts. 1-330-630-0240. Thanks for watching!

John, a 3” diameter pipe will do just fine on your truck even with some mild upgrades like an air intake and a programmer. Your flow increase will come from the aftermarket muffler and number/size of tailpipes you choose!

Hi IVIakeltHappen, We apologize for the delayed response, your comment was flagged as spam and we did not notice until now. Can you supply the outside diameter of the pipe? Once we get the outside diameter, we can find an exhaust tip for your vehicle. Thanks for watching!

Hi desertfox2020, Exhaust tips and mufflers are designed to slide over top of exhaust pipe. You just need a short piece of 2.5” pipe and some clamps to mate the two together.

Hi Muddybowtie, By running that free flowing muffler and just dumping it at the axle, yes, you may lose some low end torque. Consider having the vehicle’s computer tuned locally while be run on a chassis dyno!

Summit, I have purchased a few things like an LS camshaft that this engine is going into my 67 C10. I like the “V” band clamps that came with my SS headers and harvested the 300 series pre-cat pipe to hook up to the new system of dual that came on the truck. My question is even though I bought a new MIG in 1984, it still works fine. The “V” band clamps are a little challenging for my elbows and dealer techs like me have used factory parts for decades. I like the band clamps that extend over the joints about 1 1/2” I would guess and not distort the pipes. I am thinking longterm serviceable and as you said had “Some Leakage” due to the design and nature of the clamp. Is it minimal leakage as I am not looking for Buick Park Ave sound quality? I am looking at long term service. Hell, Chip Foose has found high-temp o-rings that move with the expansion and contraction of the exhaust he used on “Impressions” car he built. Having a surprise 5 disc lumbar fusion in June 2020 freaks me out because I have no idea for future limitations at 6’3” tall going forward on my pickup. I have researched and the wrap-a-round clamp looks like the best engineering solution compared to “V” bands which I still have a off-frame type access. Thanks for all of your quick subject videos. ASE Master Tech since 1978 - Retired but not done! Thanks.

Hi Dean, Thank you for watching. Other than v-band clamps, most exhaust clamps will have a minimal (usually not even noticeable) amount of leakage. The band clamps you are referring to are a good alternative to running v-bands. There likely will not be any “audible” signs of leakage when installed properly.

There needs to be other ways to connect butt joints. I have used that butt joint band clamp before and they leak. Now I just put a smaller pipe inside both butt ends and clamp them. I use about 4 different sets of mufflers on my mustang with the same catback pipes. Just wish there was a easy way to change out mufflers using a butt joint band clamp that actually seals and does not leak. Leaky mufflers sounds horrible.

So the exhaust will slip over the pipe on my truck from the catback? So all i need is a 2.5" Lap joint band clamp to secure it and im good to go? @jesusfavela34347 жыл бұрын
If your exhaust pipe is 2.5 od and tip is 2.5 od a muffler shop can expand or shrink the pipe enough to slide in and connect and weld it shut. Clamps should only really be used on tips. Anywhere else on the system you still get leaks and it will go into your vehicle! Had a flowmaster outlaw installed on my challenger every clamp leaked. So the shop welded every seam shut and looked a lot better then seen clamp bolts poking out!

If I have 2.5" true duals would I need to get 2.5" inlet tips? Also does the tip length affect the sound much. I was thinking 2.5" inlet x 4" outlet x 16" or 18" length

I have the L33 5.3L in my Silverado. So, I have a 2.4L 4 cylinder and I want to run a 2.25" inlet/outlet high flow cat, to a 2.5" inlet/outlet aeroturbine resonator out to a 3" pipe (not muffler). Would the 3" muffler/pipe cause low end torque loss? Would I retain power/torque by using a 2.5" muffler or a 2.5" pipe instead of 3"? Would a muffler be better than using just a pipe from the resonator?
@SummitRacing11 жыл бұрын
Hi KapitolTV, By allowing the exhaust gases too much expansion area, you slow its velocity thus losing the scavenging effect that cleanses each cylinder for the next “Clean burn”! Using a muffler or not is really up to you and the sound you are trying to achieve, but it is not suggested in your situation to use a 3” pipe diameter at all.

JOHAN MACIAS, Sounds like you’ve noticed this power loss since the addition of the exhaust. It is common to lean out a turbo car once the exhaust is freed up. Look into some tuning for the computer, there is where your new found power will be!

@SummitRacing8 жыл бұрын
+The Guy With No Grammer, Unless this is for some type of OE connection, it’s important to know what inside angle your clamp uses. This would be the angle on both parts that ultimately pulls the connection together tightly as you tighten the clamp. Most times this is the reason both sides of the connection and a clamp are all sold in a kit to ensure a proper match.

+Dominick Savage , A band clamp for a “lap-joint” is for a 2” pipe on one side and an expanded 2” pipe to slip over that. If you were to just butt two 2” pipe up together, then you would use a 2“ “butt-joint” clamp.
