I bought my 40th anniversary last December. I had to reserve it when it was incoming. Drove it off the lot with 2 miles on the odometer. A little over a year later it's been all over. On and off road. 24k miles already and nothing but smiles and great memories! I had it undercoated and that's honestly it. Going to take my time with mods. Tires will be first when they're due. I wanted to jump on the 23' because I wanted the legendary 4L drive train etc. I love how simple it is, zero complains. MPG isnt the best and probably the last modern vehicle with a 5 speed auto lol but worth it in my opinion. Great video! I'll definitely be sad in a few decades when this thing dies. Until then, everyone enjoy!

I live in central PA and get 19 to 22 in combined driving. I never jump on the gas or drive above the speed limit and easily get at least 19. Love my 2020 Limited, it's my baby, oil sprayed under coating every year and 3k oil changes since new. I hope I'm alive to see it hit 1,000,000 with just tires and brakes.

My 2007 4Runner just hit 200k (and I’m expecting at least another 200k out of it). Runs great, slow as hell, terrible fuel economy and definitely some body roll. But god damn… I’ve done some sketchy stuff in that vehicle and have put it in situations where it really should not be and it gets me home every single time. Love these machines, they’re bulletproof and will never give up on you as long as you don’t give up on it.

I always appreciate when you do videos like this because you're practical in your reviews and analysis I'm sure I've mentioned it before here but I bought my 2016 4Runner Trail Edition new in late May 2017. I'm closing in on 187K miles on the ODO as of this post. I've had only one major repair (leaking water pump replaced at 108K). Other than that, it's been routine maintenance with normal "wear and tear" items (e.g. brakes, tires, oil, etc). The 4Runner is the last of its kind here in (North) America. Tried and true. Simple and rugged. Nothing super fancy with these rigs but they get the job done on a consistent. If you want a more comfortable ride: go RAV4 or Highlander. You want more power? Go with the Lexus GX460. The same with luxury. Every vehicle has its pros and cons. All the issues that MMG mention are legit but if you're want a mid-size BoF SUV, that is true to that name, look no further than the 4Runner.

As the original owner of a 2008 SR5 RWD 4Runner I can say that it has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. After over 15 years it has been flawless, with no problems at all (fluid changes and tires the only things I replaced). Everything still looks and works like new, not bad for the original price of 28K. I hope the next version of the 4Runner continues this level of reliability, character and simple design. I do find it sad that my beautiful red color is not stocked be dealers, all they want to sell is white or black..

So far I've added 2021 LED fog lights also Lasfit low and high beam LED's, love my lighting now. I swapped wheels to new BBS TRD black wheels, nice driving and looks improvement! I added full hood and window deflectors from Toyota lifestyle. Another great functional/looking improvement. I added Lasfit floor mats and all blacked out badges including the steering wheel emblem. Almost every year for the past seven or so years has been an annual sales increase for the 4Runner. Just goes to show that old school proven reliability with conservative technology prints money for Toyota, pure profit. The 1GR-FE has been around in an earlier form since 2003 and is by far the most reliable SUV engine available today. It’ll remain in production for the Land Cruiser series sold in the Middle East for years to come. An absolute legend of an engine.

Just got my first 4Runner (2023 SR5 4WD) in August. Was on the fence between this and a Jeep Wrangler, but the reliability factor of the 4Runner swayed me. I absolutely love this SUV - but was missing having a sunroof. But my last car with one leaked so decided I’m better off without one! Thanks for your detailed review!

One thing to consider is the more mileage on a vehicle the greater the APR on a loan. I recently bought one of these and at first thought I should get an older one for less money. I looked at older ones on a website that estimated APR/payment amounts for a week without ever looking at newer ones to find one with the right payment amount. When I did finally look at a newer one just for comparison I found the payment amount wasn't much higher for a newer one because the APR was lower. I wound up buying a two year old vehicle with 33k miles for a payment not that much higher than a six to eight year old vehicle with 100k miles would have had. The newest ones with very low mileage seem to be the best deal in my opinion.

I always recommend leasing new cars through car brokers on the leasehackr forum. I just bought a 2024 SR5 Premium from Jim on leasehackr got the vehicle at invoice total lease cost was $16K @1.9% interest on the lease. I would rather do that than buy a used model for $16k but you know how people are, they love their high mileage used cars with no warranty. If you're going to buy a car like that, this is one of the few used options to consider but if you take a loan out, you're screwed. BTW financing a new 4Runner is also like 7-8% with perfect credit.

@@MeynMotorGroup You did well! I've never leased a vehicle . My parents never leased either so it's something I'm not familiar with. It always seemed risky to me with potential fees at the end for damage or going over the allowed mileage. Do you plan to purchase the vehicle at the end of the lease? It's definitely a smart way to pay at a low interest rate. I got the loan for my 22 off road premium at 7.72% with good credit.

Facts! Toyota has sold a lot of units for each of those cars you mentioned. Picked quite a bit of power, but now I’m getting coolant in the combustion chamber after a hard highway pull. Hoping I don’t have cracked heads and it’s just the gaskets. New heads are $2,700 😢. I got a set of head studs to go back together with too. Hoping for the best. Love 3rd gens! The turning radius of the 3rd gen vs my 5th gen is crazy. I like your site! For any years I leased daily vehicles, and had a few sports car classics on the side. Work took me to New England, and back problems dictated that I switch to a 'no shoveling...no BS ride'. I leased a 2014 4runner SR5. Excellent vehicle, but when I was about to retire, I turned it in for a 2016 Trail Premium. It's stiffer and truly handles much better. These trucks are bulletproof! I only have 10k miles, so I guess she will my last ride. Gas mileage might be bad, but you spend much less on maintenance. I'm good with that!

My toyota mechanic has removed many an XREAS system and replaced them a third party system. The 4th Gen had XREAS system as well but it tended to last longer. I wonder if its do to the fact that the 5th gen is heavier? Its just something to watch if you own a 5th Limited.

4Runner is fine in rain you just need good tires like All season with vertical water evacuation lines or if you must go All terrain tire, the Continental Terrain Contact AT. The more aggressive the AT tire, the worse it will do in rain especially if it doesn’t have those vertical lines. Only drawback to driving the 4Runner is under very windy conditions. People have no idea what they’re talking about, always get the newest model year, I just bought a 2024 SR5 Premium 4x4 the Bridgestone Dueller OEM tires have been great.

The Nissan counterpart is def less expensive this is true my friend was going to make a vid on the Xterra thank you for reminding me! They want to keep turning up the pressure on people until every human compromises and accepts the mark that locks them into their society, they’ll say the “gov will take care of all the people’s needs” and everyone Rich and poor will comply and those that don’t will be ostracized and persecuted.

My owners manual rates my 2015 4Runner Trail Edition as having a max tow rating of 5,000 lbs, not 4,700 as your video indicated. On some of the similar 2007-2014 FJ Cruisers there was a 4,700 pound tow rating, so that might be the source of confusion. Your source might be wrong.
