I have a 2022 Bronco Sport with the same 1.5 three cylinder ecoboost engine. I currently have 45,000 miles on the odometer. Everything was flawless, until about a month ago when I noticed I was losing coolant somewhere. Took it to my local Ford dealer and was told the cylinder head was cracked, causing the coolant to leak into the cylinders. They replaced the cylinder head at no cost to me and provided a free loaner vehicle while the repairs were being done. It took about a week and a half to get the parts and do the work. So far, the repair seems to have worked, as I am no longer losing coolant. From my research, there were issues with coolant intrusion into the cylinders on earlier versions of the ecoboost engine... which supposedly have been worked out. I'm hoping my problem was just a "one off" because I really like the Bronco Sport... fun to drive, looks great, etc.... and want to keep it long term if possible. Keeping my fingers crossed!!

my 2021 Bronco Sport Base has 45,000 miles as well. Had no big issues but it just started having issues when starting. I think it might be battery issue? (i'm not a car expert) everything turns on but the engine. smh.

I owned a 2021 Big Bend BS with the 1.5 three-cylinder. It was a good little truck with a few quirks due to it being first-generation. I traded it in for a 2023 Badlands with the 2.0 four cylinder. I payed $36000 for the Badlands after dealer incentives. You get more than just a larger engine with the Badlands. You also get clutch actuated 4x4 system, more Goat Modes, a front facing and rear facing camera, and mine came with the Falken Wildtrack tires installed. The four cylinder engine delivers 250HP and 277 pound feet of torque. The offroad capabilities of the Badlands has it all over the other models. I love my BS. It's decent on fuel, great in the snow and I find it fun to drive.

the 1.5L has water pump issues through the whole first gen. The casting has debris in it and until you blow your water pump you don't know if you got a bad one. Then you don't know if your shop did a complete flush or if you will go through more water pumps.

Honestly man this 3 cylinder makes more power than that v8 and it shows when you drive. He summed it up perfectly. You never feel out of power band in this vehicle and it feels great. It’s got so much legs in the low end and enough gears highway speeds are no problem with still plenty of power. I’m very happy with the 1.5 all things considered

3 cylinder turbo? I guess we better get used to it, this is the future, I hope the naysayers are wrong, and they hold up, I love them. So this Bronco would compare to the new Toyota what I wondee. Low 30s, probably cheap to run, and kind of has some character? Sounds like a winner and affordable, kind of becoming a rarity. Great review and probably the one to buy for a lot of people.

I think these turbos are going to hold up much better than the general concensus, but I am known for optimism.
@drn133558 ай бұрын
Turbos have been around since like 1905. It isn't new tech. They are used in airplanes no issues. Really the only bad turbos were Saabs in the 80s which had heat issues. But NA engines had problems as well. Modern turbos are absolutely fine and are SO much better when driving at elevation over an NA engine not to mention way more low end torque.

3 cylinder has inherent balance problems, and it wouldn’t last beyond 100k miles. This is proven. Ford used this engine starting 2016 in China, and sales took a nose dive. You can google it. This engine was so bad ford withdrew the engine from Chinese market and went back to an old 4 cylinder.
