Bought my 2022 Bronco Sport Badlands one year ago today! Loving it! So far I've put 31,000 miles on it.20,000 of those mile was towing our small travel trailer. Its had no issues so far, just oil changes. Have taken it to Moab to do off roading, which it did amazingly well, and driven it to Alaska.

I had the actual Bronco Black Diamond and we traded it for the Mazda CX-50 Off road version. We now get around 10mpg better, the payments are much less, overall quality increased and it drives like a BMW. Only thing we lost was advanced off road capability, but to be honest I'm not taking a 60k car off road. I'd rather have an old reliable 5k jeep to do it in.

The sad reality, as someone who used to own a Ford and now owns a Mazda, in a couple of years do want to be paying for repairs or driving around in your vehicle. Ford has no where near the liability of a Mazda. I've owned my CX5 for five years and not one thing has gone wrong.

My wife replaced her 11 year old, very faithful and reliable mazda3, for a 2021 Cx-5 with awd. This was before the CX-50 was available. The cx5 is pretty decent, I would like more space on the hatch area now that we have a baby. If we had 2 kids, it wouldn't be enough space in my opinion.

We cross shopped between those exact 2 cars. We live in a big city and we never go off road even though the street floods a little under heavy rain, so ground clearance was a factor. Both cars had similar ground clearance. This car was for my wife and I already drive an F150 Limited. This purchase happened in July 2022 and the Ford dealer was willing to sell us the Badland at invoice while the Mazda had a $1800 in dealer add one that we were required to buy. This made the Mazda Turbo Premium more expensive for us by Price: Ford Interior: Ford had more cubbies to put things which made it more practical, but it looked a little cheap compared to the Mazda. The Mazda was just way more luxurious. The leather quality, the way all the buttons feel, the knobs, everything you touched in the Mazda just felt more expensive. But I find the Mazda seats bottom to be a little stiff. Mazda won this round for sure. Driving: the Ford drove fine here in Texas, but nothing stood out. The Mazda felt faster, sportier and the handling was very tight and good. I found the steering on the heavier side though. If you like sportier feel then the Mazda is more for you, so for us the Mazda won. Horsepower correction; on the video you said that the Ford made more power which is not correct. The Ford makes 250hp when running premium unleaded. It makes less when running regular unleaded; for does not specify. The Mazda actually makes more power while running premium unleaded at 256hp, but if you run regular unleaded you get at least 227hp according to Mazda. Gas mileage is a little better in the Mazda, but we don’t care much about it since we drive less than normal. Other: even though the Mazda was a little more expensive it had things the Ford doesn’t have. It has a heads up display, a bigger screen, cooled seats and in Texas is a must have for us, panoramic sunroof even though we don’t care for it, cornering lights. All those extras were taken into account and the Mazda made more sense to us which is what we bought also Mazda seems to be a little more reliable than Ford. My F150 had the engine replaced under warranty because a timing chain tooth broke off. Ford treated well though. We had the Mazda for almost 5 months and the 2 things I dislike the most are the lack of cubbies or storage in the front and their bin style glovebox because everytime you open it everything just falls out of it. The seat cushion could be a little softer, but you get used to it. Except that, my wife loves her car and how fast it drives. That torque is almost instantaneous. I was just sharing my opinion of these 2 cars because we happened to cross shop between them based on our needs. We didn’t consider a Honda because we had bad experience with their service and the RAV4 pillar blocks my wife’s view, so those 2 were out of contention.

@@andres_b well, they found out what the problem was and fixed it right away. They had my truck for 3 weeks and the only thing I didn't care for was the Chevy Spark that they gave me as a rental. So different than my F150. Lol FYI, my wife had a Honda Accord Touring with 31k miles on it and the AC stopped working while the car was idling. Honda took 3 weeks to find out what the problem was. At first they kept saying that they couldn't see anything wrong with her ac. Then I had to show them multiple times, then they started guessing and replacing parts. First the compressor clutch, then the coil, then the compressor and finally a sensor that fixed it. This happened in July with Texas heat and they did NOT even provide a rental car. After that experience we started shopping for cars and vow to never buy Honda again. Thus, the Mazda is in the garage. At least Ford only took one day to diagnose the problem which tells me their willingness to fix their problem unlike Honda.

The 20" wheel needs to die. I just cannot wrap my head around these companies that try to build a smallish SUV for mild offroading and then strap stupid 19-20" wheels on it. What the heck?! That's where the Ford folks got it right. 17" wheels. Perfect! Better for offroading and much more forgiving on the pavement, too. Figure out what you're trying to do. Is it supposed to be a rugged, trail-ready vehicle? If yes, then maybe the 20" wheel with low-profile tire isn't the right fit for the vehicle. Not that difficult.

My son of the 2021 RAM 1500 Rebel night something or another package and beau coup off road packages, already discovered you, as I learned when I told him what a fun new channel "I discovered." I don't own either one of these vehicles. As much as I love the snow, and can appreciate the winter, not to mention the people and culture of our neighbor to the north, here in northern Virginia, where I think we had all of one half of an inch, call it 14mm to give it the benefit of the doubt, of snow last winter, I don't think the Bronco 'floats my boat'. Is it a bad car or vehicle, no, not at all. Is Bronco an icon? Need I ask? No. It is clearly an icon and deserves to be. For me, for my 'winter', going to southern PA and WVA in the winter to go skiing, the Mazda will do the job. One of you said buying the Mazda is an emotional decision. You hit the nail on the head. It is. And if I decide to part with my current vehicle, I suspect a Mazda will reside in my driveway. A curve ball, not necessarily in your wheelhouse ... a CX 5 or a CX 50? Two different animals. One half of my brain loves the CX 50 and its 'vibe', the other half of my brain loves the more upmarket look of the CX 5 interior. It is TBD which half of the brain wins. :) Meanwhile, I am hitting the subscribe button. I truly enjoyed your video on the Bronco and CX-5. Nicely done and though you expressed a preference, well done in a non-judgmental way. I bought the CX 50. I needed SUV height. I wanted turbo power. I liked the aggressive looks. I liked having some reasonable ground clearance, mostly for the little bit of flexibility in a situation. But, I don't have the more aggressive tires, which makes me nervous that I don't have the confidence if I need to really drive "off road" even on a temporary basis. I might switch the wheels out. On the other hand, the Bronco Sport felt a little odd to me, like a pretend big truck. But, it was definitely a contender. Realistically, if I was going on any serious trails, I'd buy a vehicle specific to off roading or an ATV and tow it with my Mazda to the location. Well, maybe I'd buy a pick-up to tow the ATV so the Mazda didn't get dirty ;-)

The great thing about the Bronco is ford's reliability is such garbage that after 5 years when the engine and transmission blow up you'll get to buy another brand new one for 50 grand. Sadly with the Mazda being number one in market reliability 2 years in a row you'll probably have to keep the darn thing for 15 years before anything goes wrong. Or you could just sell it by then and buy another Mazda.

I've put 19,000 miles on my BS Badlands in 11 months. Absolutely trouble free. Never been back to the dealer except for filters, as I do all my own maintenance. This is my second 2.0 twin scroll, and I was happy to go back to it after 9 months in a 2021 Ranger XLT 4X4. The 2.3 in the Ranger is not nearly as smooth as the 2.0, but it DOES put out major power! 310 ft lbs... The 2.0 engine has been made in Spain for years by union workers, and is bullet proof. Ford is building a new plant in Cleveland, Ohio to manufacture it here by union workers(Go USA!) in America. I wish I could post some pictures. It's been in deserts, on beaches, and up in the Cascade Mountains. With BFG ko2 tires it's pretty much unstoppable(I got rid of the factory Falkens by the time it had 400 miles on it, because they just spun too easily!), except for the ground clearance. Roughly 9 inches, so you have to pick your spots carefully. There's a Ford dealer in every town. Don't even consider a Mazda, LOL.

My observation is that Japanese manufacturers routinely design for the average height and do not account for people who are taller. If you are over 6' or if you think you might ever have a passenger over 6' ... you are going to have to be very careful when shopping your Japanese options. IMO, this chronic lack of cabin height is a big problem, but they're always going to sell a bunch because the market sweet spot is obviously average to shorter people.

Another case of reviewers getting high end model review cars. That CX-50 would have plenty of headroom in a lower end model without the stupid sunroof crap that takes up the whole roof of the vehicle....the only reason you don't have the same issue with the Bronco Sport is the sunroof is much smaller. I've hardly used the flipper window glass in my Explorer, and the one in my Jeep Grand Cherokee leaked due to worn seals, could have been fixed, but I've found those flipper glass windows in the hatch just seem to be leak prone for some reason. Nice that the option exists for sure, but I find that most times I'm opening the whole hatch because of the amount of cargo space in my Explorer you can't reach most of it through just the flipper window. I'd go with a lower end Mazda CX-5 with the regular NA engine instead of the turbo crap that automakers try to force upon people.

Mazda is coming out with a hybrid model next year. I currently have a 2016 Subaru with just over 80k miles, and this last year alone I've put over $4k into it repairing things that shouldn't be an issue. Replaced both front axles earlier this year ($1900), then all the bushings on all four corners ($1300), and now trying to locate where this unbearable squeal is coming from. So far replaced the serpentine belt, water pump (which was leaking), and an Idler pulley (which had a worn out bearing). So far I'm well over $900 in trying to locate the sound, next will be the alternator. From what I've read, when it comes to modern Subaru's its either hit or miss. I wouldn't buy another one when I've owned both Mazda's and Toyotas that have had well over twice the mileage and no where near the same amount of issues.

CX-50 has 3500 lb tow capacity with the 2.5 turbo engine versus 2200 lbs max with the ford's 2.0 turbo. So if you don't plan to take the vehicle on the trails but want to tow your side by side or couple of atvs to the trail you may be maxed out or legally over weight with the bronco but not with the CX-50. Ford Escape also has a 3500lb option. Its a shame they overlooked that on the bronco sport.
