All these years later and your video is still the one that sticks in my head. It is the absolute best encapsulation of the whole Portal feel, ties the song to the game story and shows the heart wrenching side to Caroline's experience which opens up another part of the Portal mythos that Valve themselves could not have done better. Bravo. I have no idea why this didn't win the competition!

Even though this song was pretty much for Doug Rattmann, considering we found the radio that played this song in one of his dens besides murals of his that featured lyrics to the song - it also goes so very well with Caroline's tragic backstory, and this video was _really_ well done. @moviemaker1986 Thankyou! I didn't mean for it to have a funereal feel; I imagined more that perhaps Cave gave her the flowers and she was thinking about how things had changed. Maybe hers is a tale of unrequited affection, or maybe Cave is so wrapped up in his dreams he rarely remembers how he relies on Caroline (a token of flowers every so often failing to put a value on it...) So yes, i'ts meant to be an ageing Cave at 2.32; perhaps I should have had a pic of him offering her the flowers. :)

@Pigganon Actually, GLaDOS says she and Caroline are separate - even in the end song. Caroline is part of GLaDOS, and her consciousness resides with GLaDOS's, they're both stuck together.

Thank you :) I was trying to portray the history of Caroline through the years at aperture science, culminating in her becoming (or being 'uploaded') to GLaDOS. If you mean the flashing images up the screen, the idea was that it was her memories being uploaded (although I realise in retrospect there's some images in there from her own future that she couldn't have known, like the potato ;)

First off, excellent video rendition of Caroline's story. It has a tragic and poignant sense to it that comes off excellently. Quick question, around 2:32 with the robots in the presentation room, the man talking to them is Cave right? If so, then why is Caroline standing in front of the Cave's portrait around 1:48? Just remembering the better days of Aperature? When I saw this for the first time, I thought this was supposed to be after Cave died, which I suppose doesn't follow the story.

Robots were not used for testing until after the Portal 2. GLaDOS says herself that the cooperative testing initiative was created just before Chell killed her in Portal 1. The correct order of test subjects: Famous People, Homeless, Aperture Employees, People under relaxation from bring your daughter to work day, Cooperative Testing Robots

i dont think chell will be back and also cave johnson was put in a computer as a test to see if caroline coud become GLaDoS but the test failed and cave johnson died, a few years later they tested the project again on caroline this time it worked but caroline was lost in side the computer and the robot part of her toook over

I hate to break it to you, but on the portal wiki, there are quotes of the space core becoming bored of space, wanting to go back. There's also quotes of Rick and fact core getting annoyed of Space core (whether or not they're in space, who knows). Everyone except Atlas and P-Body had a bad ending. Even Rattman, who likely died to save Chell who doesn't know him at all.

I think that the best way to properly dissect the story of portal 2 is to try and figure out how Chell/GLaDOS correlate to the story of Prometheus, as the similarities are undeniable.

I hear that Cave and Caroline had a daughter who was Chell and they couldn't keep her as she would get in the way of their work, so they had someone from Aperture adopt her so they could still be close, the person who did adopt her was Doug (AKA Ratman) who looked after Chell until GlaDOS took her for testing. When Chell defeated GlaDOS (AKA Caroline) Ratman had his freedom, but saw Chell get dragged back into Aperture by GLaDOS's robots. Doug went back for her; sacrificing his own life for her.

Not only is it that all her friends are dead, some of them are probably zombies. As we know, valve has it so that all stories from all games are connected. This means that Chell lives in the same world as Gordon Freeman, and all the people from L4D, TF2, Everybody like that. Beyond the walls of Aperture Science lies an apocalyptic world of death and destruction. Makes you even MORE depressed to think that, doesn't it?

@TheEATClan99 Dude, did you even pay attention to the game? Cave had a machine built to put his personality and memories into after he got deathly ill from the powdered moon rocks, but died before he could be put in. They put Caroline into it instead, and she became GLaDOS.

@lilianaclaire actually if Cave made robotmen then he wouldn't require his staff to test so i think he encourage the development of them but it never took off, so if you replaced it with weary looking employees i think it would be alot better, other then that i LOVED this great job on the pictures and scene selections! you should've got a token of winning too!

Cave Johnson wanted his consciousness and personality put into a computer, unfortunately he died before the procedure was done, following his instructions the Aperture scientists instead put Caroline's consciousness inside GLaDOS, regardless of what she herself thought of it.

The way i think of it is: 1: Caroline is in love with Cave, but doesn't know how to say it(about to try with flowers) 2: Thats the time when Cave started getting sick, from the white gel,and she is feeling bad for him and getting get-well-soon flowers, 3: They are husband and wife/boyfriend and girlfriend and Cave got so sucked into his work they never talk anymore, therefore she is sad

It is kinda sad when you think about why GLaDOS probably tried to kill everyone every time they turned her on. Caroline was betrayed. She was forced to give up her life to be inserted into a computer. Cold, unfeeling.

while it is sad, it is also unknown whether or not all of GLaDOS was caroline. It is quite possible that they only inserted her personality to calm the machine down, but her anger only made it worse. The fact that GLaDOS could delete caroline shows that she may only be a small part of GLaDOS. Even if she did not delete Caroline she does say she has found where Caroline lives in her brain
