If you're interested in more, I discovered this band through Amanda Somerville, who's singing lead most parts of this cover. I knew of her from her work with Avantasia and Epica. Just those two bands are a delightful rabbit hole to go down in the opera/symphonic metal world and I highly recommend them. It always made me kind of sad that Exit Eden didn't do more than one album, because they were an amazing quartet.

The first time I heard this song was summer of 93. Kennywood picnic day. My baby brother fell incredibly Ill at the time due to food poisoning and my mom and aunt took my brother and sister to the amusement park and this played over the speakers at the music go round. Its original title was 'Vampires in Love' because I was working on a musical of Nosferatu, the other great vampire story. If anyone listens to the lyrics, they're really like vampire lines. It's all about the darkness, the power of darkness and love's place in the dark..."

I agree. I also think it's interesting that Steinman went from Nosferatu to working on the German "Tanz der Vampire," a stage adaptation of Roman Polanski's "Fearless Vampire Killers," where they actually used the song. The American version of the play was an absolute failure, and I'm sure one can find bits of it on KZbin. "Tanz der Vampire" is pretty popular and I believe is still performed now and then in Germany and Austria. Tanz just did not translate well to American audiences, especially once the story changed and Michael Crawford wanted to play up the comedy of it. I rather like it though, and the use of this song, as "Totale Finsternis," is pretty great!

Germany as one of the birthplaces of goth culture has much closer relation to this theme and their production with sexy vampires in latex and torn baroque robes is brilliant. It used same or similar production in hungary, czech republic and other countries and it was and still is very popular there. And Steinman songs like this one or Tonight is what is meant to be young used in finale are timeless classics. Btw. Steinman was working on other musicals too, on KZbin can be found songs from Pandora's Box and Batman
