My wife picked up really quickly the colours on the back of the objects so we were onto the coloured letters pretty fast, but we didn't know most of the fairy tales. I knew there was a witch in Hansel & Gretel, but I was thrown by the fact she was riding on a broom. The worm in the apple made me doubtful of Snow White too... We resorted to hints even though we were probably on the right track. I took the thrown away objects too literally with the broom & worm. The scissors hint probably wasn't necessary.

I think I was slow on multiple counts on this one, because I noticed early on that the second line had N, O and E in blue but somehow didn't realize that this was an anagram of ONE! I'm not sure if that's in the video without rewatching - I did cut out a bit where I simply read out a bunch of the letters of different colours near the start.

Enjoyed watching your play through after our own! We didn’t get stumped by the scissors thing but 100% agree that was confusing. Mostly got confused thinking there were multiple stories involving a witch but I guess they were just generic “evil woman” characters! 😅

I don't like when puzzle involve knowing obscure facts from outside the puzzle world. Like in this case the ins and out of the Grimm stories. Don't think the H&G witch had a broom either, which also didn't make sense for that one.

Yes, I agree. I think it's okay if lots of the puzzles require external knowledge, since then you know it's considered a valid part of solving, but when just the very occasional puzzle does then it's actively unfair because it breaks the "rules" that the calendar has seemingly established previously.

@Dr Gareth Moore That was the issue with the songs earlier. I'm even deaf on one ear and a high pitched tinnitus on my left ear making me miss beats etc. Those riddles are not suited for a large group of people. Something out of line for the otherwise clever and well-thinking maker couple.

The Bremen Town Musicians, are they the ones singing the Three Kings From Persian Lands Afar? 😆 Also have to hope Santa hasn't recruited anyone colourblind to find his golden book, because they'd be trapped in this room forever. Maybe the scissors hint was to find the objects if they'd got lost somewhere in the sleeve, you could poke them out with the scissors? Doesn't help if they fell into a room though. Not the best execution, honestly, although the idea was good.

I lost the witch in my calendar too 😞 As long as I remember that she’s moved into another room and she isn’t a clue for that day when I find her! 😂

I think they wanted to secure the room a bit more because of the first day so it was more difficult to open, hence the mention of scissors

Glad you figured that out eventually too. This one shows it's originally a German product. I think most German people know the Bremen town musicians, but I don't know how many other people know it unles they visited Bremen. Also I was really surprised how you managed to never turn over the items so you missed the colour hints.

Yes, I completely agree - rookie mistake! I should tape a bit of paper over my desk with a few 'have you checked for this obvious thing?' type suggestions for myself! :)

Nice to see you finally getting stuck on something. We also missed the colored backs. AND also just counted the letters of the correct colors, so our ONE became a 3. This was not a good day for us. :D

So glad it wasn’t just me! :) You have to have a tough day, though, so that every other day becomes a victory. ;)

The thing is just looking at the back of the beaches when you allways looked at the back of the cards to see if there are diffrent

Yes, you're absolutely right - I think because I had already got those objects from day 1 I didn't bother to look at them sufficiently closely again! :)

Our items also disappeared somewhere in the box, frustrating.

Yes! I think they had tried to double-wall that room, but it didn't quite work given how much you need to move the calendar around while solving all the in-between days!

This one annoyed me - Led down a blind alley by the picture of the rooster on the back of the box!

Yes, I agree that's a bit of a red herring! (or red rooster, I guess)

I was thrown by the "may need scissors" instruction and cut and sorted the titles into alphabetical order without noting what the original order was, so had to use trial and error to get the (easily found) numbers into the right order :(

good puzzle but the clues were totally confusing. the scissors thing was to cut what? plus its really easy to lose those bits in the calandar too. 👀

Thank goodness my bff is good at this type of puzzle, I got stuck at the end.

I also pulled out the room and lost the witch to the depths of the calendar for a bit. Also some how the newspaper got trapped in there so I had the wrong info. 😂 so you weren’t the only one that struggled!

I am so glad I'm not the only person to have pulled out the room! :) Thank you for commenting! ;)

Yes, it was certainly considerably easier than I made it! :) That said, you do need to make several sequential deductions (objects -> stories -> colours -> anagrams -> digits), all while not getting distracted by the accidental red herrings, so I think there are quite a few points at which it is possible to get lost too. As I demonstrated. :)
