As a former catholic that b roll was definitely a catholic church. My only guess is that the Mormon churches wouldn't let the crew come in to film and hulu figured no one would know the difference.
@GracefullyAutistic

That's a good theory. My personal theory is that they filmed Catholic churches for that 'beautiful peaceful church aesthetic', because if you've been inside a typical Mormon ward (aka the 'normal' Mormon churches where they go every Sunday), they're very drab and boring in all honesty. One Mormon friend told me that that's because they don't believe in vanity, that it's vain and shallow to make God's house all pretty and fancy with stained glass windows or whatever. Which is rich considering all the Mormon temples (which I've never seen the inside of, but the outside is gorgeous enough!) that they have! XD

Yes! Got pregnant before getting married. My bishop told me the only reason I wasn't getting excommunicated was because we we had a wedding date. I was 7 months pregnant getting married in the church gym. We had no money at the time. And now I wish we would have waited. But when EVERYONE is pressuring you to get married it is no joke. The only people that said to wait was my aunt and my husband's sister they are both nonmembers. It's so disappointing because we don't really have professional pictures. Every time I think about it, it upsets me.

I grew up Canadian Mormon, and although slightly not as intense as Utah, still holds a lot of Mormon culture. Especially in the prairie provinces. I love listening to you guys because I feel validated. I was equally confused as to whether these Mormon wives were actually Mormon wives. Where I grew up, rules were never relaxed, so the show completely shocked me 😂. It’s amazing how one religion that is “the same everywhere” can be lived so different everywhere 😮. Just adds so much confusion. And I definitely related to the silent pressure to be pretty. It’s so true. I also laughed at all the crosses. My dad’s Catholic, and my mom ( who converted to Mormonism) hated his crosses 😂 On a more serious note, I am seriously concerned about the mental health of all children involved with this show. One of the pitfalls of the Mormon purity culture, is intimate partner abuse. So many women are pressured silently and/or explicitly to stay in unhealthy marriages. 😢 I know because I myself am a survivor. 💪

Hey ladies! I have a question. I came to my "awakening" when Heather Daybell spoke on a podcast about her experience and research, it's like I couldn't not start digging and then I couldn't stop. And then I declared I wanted out. But I haven't done anything. The heartbreak is much more intense than I imagined. And the feeling completely lost and trying so hard to break my thinking and find a new belief. But I'm so confused. When does clarity come? And confidence? If you're able to respond that would be awesome, if not totally understand. You ladies are BUSY, and have got me hooked on finishing this series.
@CultstoConsciousness

The research stage is the most intense. Usually when the biggest feelings of betrayal are present. I found clarity when I could safely say to myself that it’s all made up and there are no real consequences to not believing anymore. That’s where freedom comes. After the release of fear. Sending my best to you and your journey❤️

And omg the blue coats?!? Who else immediately thought of the commander’s wives in Handmaid’s Tale??? According to a couple of online fandoms “The wives of the Commanders wear blue, which is a royal color, symbolizing the high status of the wives,” “Blue is often associated with the Virgin Mary and purity and serenity - it used to be considered a very feminine colour, so perhaps that is why the Wives wear it.”

Oh man, I have questions lol. Can I just confirm that I’m understanding this… If you’re hypothetically married to a guy and he starts drinking alcohol or coffee or whatever… Could you ask your Bishop for a divorce so you could get married a second time to a different more strict Mormon guy, so that you both go to the celestial kingdom? Or would you try to get your current husband to become strict again, but if he doesn’t then too bad for you? 🤔 Thanks guys, I love your combined episodes 💖✨🥰
@CultstoConsciousness
@CultstoConsciousness 4 ай бұрын
The bishop would first ask your husband to change and repent. If the wife felt serious enough about it, she might divorce him but she would have to get her temple sealing canceled by the high authorities (which is an approval process) before she could be sealed to a different man. Her ex however, could be sealed to more than one woman because there is Polygamy is heaven

Minute 43 when Amanda says "at least once a week I wake up and I wonder what happens when we die" I have ALWAYS done that in the night ever since I can remember, I am ex Catholic, it never occurred to me that it's religious trauma from all the stories they used to indoctrinate us with every day, it makes perfect sense. It's a relief to know that somebody else experiences this, although of course I'd rather neither of us did. Lots of love xxx

Last week I watched on YT two serious programs featuring Mormonism. One of them with the writer of the biography of the Republican, Mormon, representative Mitt Romney, who voted for impeaching Trump. They were discussing the reactions of Mormons on the Maga and Trump. The other was “The View” on which those ladies of the TikTok show were on. The first one I reacted that I believe it is weird to see a cult criticizing another cult. The second that it’s weird to promote a cult. Not that I’m anti religious, but keep it to yourself, do not harm anyone physically or mentally and enjoy your believes.

As a Christian, and views LDS as a cult because it falls out of orthodoxy, this is fascinating. Sexual purity is still important. But no where in the Bible does it say it’s equal to murder. In the old testament it was a blood punishable offence. Yet there was always “loopholes” and not all offences were punished. This is the difference between grace based religion, and works based religion. Orthodox Christianity believes we can be forgiven all sin. Period. LDS has rule after rule to control you. Jesus has harsh words for religious leaders like this. The Pharisees. They enslave the people.

I've heard people are more relaxed and less judgemental in other states when Mormon. I feel most of Utah is not that relaxed. I grew up in Clinton, Ut, and still live here, and they are pretty judgemental and strict. I went to church when I was younger but not active. I want my name off the rolls lol. Swinging is actually really big in Utah. I'm not surprised to see that on the show. Also, marriages with porn addiction (2nd episode, i think) are huge (I see it in my line of work). I found a lot of the stuff in the show like crosses, etc. was not a true representation of the church, haha....weird they mixed that in with mormonism. I wonder if the people who leave any religion are the people who took it seriously and played by the book. Basically, they are very obedient and docile people, and then they get burned out from the inability to check off all the boxes because it is unnatural to follow so many rules. And the second train of thought, I wonder if the people who stay are the people who break the rules of the law. People who are okay with being naughty or disobedient in a very discrete way, and that's why they stay.

There is a lot of merit to this backed by research. Usually the ones who leave are the ones who did the most research and broke under the pressure and shame to be perfect. The ones who happily stay don’t tend to internalize the doctrine, aren’t as serious about the rules and/or don’t care about the shortcomings, problematic history or truth claims the religion makes.

I’m a mormon Latter Day Saint and I love my church. It brings me closer to Christ and I love him and want to be like him. There are people in all religions who choose to live differently than they are taught in their church. There are many wonderful people of all religions. My experience in church has not been like portrayed on this KZbin channel.😊

They are not allowed to swing. That will get you kicked out of the LDS church.

Follow Christ, not man. Live for God, not religion. If we are Christ followers, we have a relationship with God, not to please man and make sure we don't embarras them.
