ALL EXO MEMBERS HAVE SUPERPOWERS!!! Here is an explanation for EXO concept (as well as the ko ko bop MV): “EXO debuted in 2012 -- "Mama" MV is EXO's debut song. From the very beginning EXO's concept is that they are aliens from planet EXO and they came to Earth with super powers to protect the Tree of Life. Each of the members has a super power that is unique to them and almost every MV will have at least one if not all of them using their powers. Exo, as in exoskeleton, means "outer," so as a member of EXO they are outside the ordinary. The groups concept comes from the real term exoplanet, which is a term that is used for a planet that is outside our solar system, so their name was chosen to represent the fact that they are stars that are "out of this world" when it comes to their talents. Now you also need to know that in the beginning there were 12 members and they were split up into 2 groups EXO-K and EXO-M. EXO-K sang and performed their songs in Korean and EXO-M sang and performed those same songs in Mandarin Chinese. EXO-K had 6 Korean members and EXO-M had 4 Chinese members and 2 Korean members. (So the story at the beginning of their debut MV is explaining the groups legend and why they are split into two groups and what they have been sent to Earth to do.) So to really understand their full origin story you have to watch both the K and the M version of "MAMA," not just the K version, because even though both the K and M versions of "Mama" feature all 12 of the members, the K version focuses on the K members and their powers and the M version focuses on the M members and their powers. Plus, this is a good opportunity for you to hear what the song sounds like in both Mandarin and Korean. (I encourage you to watch EXO-M's version of "MAMA" even if you don't react to it and really listen to the introduction story at the beginning. Now that you know a little more about what it is trying to tell you, you will probably start to understand more of why EXO does the things they do and what makes them so special.) However, since then 3 of the 4 Chinese members have left the group (short answer: to focus on their solo work back in China) but there is still one Chinese member left, Lay. (Any performances or MVs you watch that took place prior to May 2014 you will see all 12 of the members. Kris and Luhan left in 2014 and Tao left in 2015.) However, now, because they no longer have enough Chinese members they no longer do separate promotions where the group is split up, but they still produce all their songs in both Korean and Mandarin they just now promote all as one big group: EXO with 9 members. However it isn't necessarily obvious when they use their powers (it all depends on the MV -- some times its more obvious than others. You have to know what each of their powers are and to really be watching to understand how and where their powers are being used some times.) The thing is, you have to keep in mind that all of EXO's MVs are connected, and I mean all of them. All their MVs tell a little more of EXO's story and help to explain why they are on Earth and what they have been sent here to do. However, the stories in each of their MVs aren't necessarily in chronological order so you have to watch everything EXO does and start to piece together their storyline. For example, one of their most recent MVs (released in 2017), "Power", the story actually takes place prior to them coming to Earth so if you were to put the MVs in order of the story, their "Power" MV would actually take place before or within the same time frame of their debut "Mama" MV and yet Power came out 5 years after "Mama" and there were several MVs in between. In order for you to understand Ko Ko Bop MV you need to watch EXO "Lucky One" MV (2016) as both are connected. Long-short story in lucky one, EXO was kidnap by the government and experiemented on. The government used a drug to prevent exo from using their powers but eventually they escape. Now fast forward about a year later and EXO's MV for "Ko Ko Bop" is thought to pick up where "Lucky One" left off. In "Ko Ko Bop" some theories say EXO has just escaped from the government facility, shortly after arriving on Earth, and they are testing their powers. The blue Ko Ko Bop drink Suho (the one in the washing machine, with water powers and the leader) mixes and the members drink in "Ko Ko Bop" is to help them detox from the drugs they were given in the government facility in "Lucky One." That is why they all act like they are in a drugged state of mind in the "Ko Ko Bop" MV. . . . This explanation is not my own. I just think it is a very good explanation about EXO

When my mom watched KO KO BOP for the first time she was exactly like you. the settings in this MV has a lot of similar vibes to other groups as well....like when their laying on the grass and the camera floats up, it reminded me of TWICES 'signal' in the beginning, when they were dancing in the streets, it reminded me of BTS MIC DROP, the settings with the plants and deserts or something, reminded me of WINNERS Island MV, the dreads IMMEDIATELY reminded me of BIG BANG, when their standing on the benches with that car driving around them, the setting in which was a parking lot(i think), it reminded me of NCT's Cherry Bomb.
