@@ExocagedRCsorry to bother. Bought the exb outcast rtr 8s, out the box only turns right slightly. Left turn is fine. Any knowledge you could share. I tried the calibration, bec 8.4V output, and if I did it right end points were set. Money is not the problem. What servo would you put in it. Assuming it’s a weak servo. Thanks in advance

A few years ago, I learned a valuable lesson. I used to be in the habit of posing my crawler for a picture by driving it to where I wanted it, and turning my tx off. The servo would hold it's position, and I could move around down low, take pics etc without accidentally bumping the radio and losing my shot. Absolutely did NOT think abut the servo being under load or anything. Well, this one fine day me and the boys were out trailing and I lined up a great shot. Of course it was up on the rocks, steering cranked full left, and it looked amazing. Switched off my tx, and took a couple of pics. We then decided that this was as good a time as any, to stop and have lunch. My rig was in a safe spot and I didn't give it a second thought as I dug into my backpack for my lunch. A half hour or so later we were done, and I powered up my tx only to discover that my servo had completely left the chat. Up close, you could smell it. Fortunately, I had a spare with me- but lesson learned. Thanks for an informative video!
@TheAnthonyBrandi
@TheAnthonyBrandi 3 ай бұрын
i htought the servos powered down when the tx goes off tho?
@IN10THRC
@IN10THRC 3 ай бұрын
@TheAnthonyBrandi Not necessarily, and here's why: Your ESC supplies power to the RX. Turning the TX off, does not interrupt that power. So even though the RX is not recieving a radio signal and therefore not issuing commands to the servos or ESC, the power bus is still energized. Therefore the servo is still recieving power. For a practical demonstration, test the positive and negative pins with an LED or voltmeter on any RX channel, with the RX powered on, but your TX off

@@IN10THRC yes the power rail still has voltage all the way accross.it definitely had power. I took a old servo apart and soldered a led on the motor pins for a test and no power was being sent. That kinda good news right?
@TheAnthonyBrandi
@TheAnthonyBrandi 3 ай бұрын
@@IN10THRC I since ran more tests. The actual motor in the servos receive 0 voltage at the motor connectors on more then 2 servos I've tested even with the power buss senting voltage to the sevos control board. No power is sent the the motor at all. Maybe it's the pwm pot board inside that's frying up. Deffinatly not the motors.
@IN10THRC
@IN10THRC 3 ай бұрын
@TheAnthonyBrandi Maybe? I dunno. But, something has to account for the servo being locked in place under those conditions. Perhaps placing them under load would yield different test results? Load WAS a factor in my case. The truck was not parked on flat level ground, rather perched on some rocks with the wheels at full left lock, and the rx turned off. Also, some radio gear has different signal loss failsafe options. Mine would definitely try to hold position. Some will neutralize/float, some can even be programmed to go to predetermined positions.

THE BEST!! This explanation is really interesting and correct! Another thing I can add to your perfect analysis is FOLLING DOWN: when the car has rollover or other falls, may append the impact is on the front wheels and this can crash servo gears, but also sometimes servo electronics. I'm pretty new to rc since 10-2021 with 4 cars 1st my 6yolds senton 550 2nd my mojaveBLX 3rd my wife's scx6 (my backup rig) 4th my 6yolds mojave exb (not yet recieved) bought used with electronics $275 in great shape (street truck) I'm learning more and more about servos vs driving style everyday seems. I just bought the power hobby 1512 for the scx6 due to my limited knowledge of direct power set up and wanting to keep it simple. Servo knowledge (driving knowledge) can kill ones desire for the hobby if ppl like you didn't explain this stuff. Hobby shops here in Denver tend not to give constructive feedback or advise 1st reason being; some customers are down right nasty if told they are screwing up 2nd reason in some cases is " he will kill it , if I say somthing I won't get a sale for new servo in few weeks( he will have me install it too and he tips very well).

Hey Joe, thank you for all of your great ideas, testing and education with the crawlers. This video was a huge EYE OPENER!! So I have been having serious issues with my servo screw coming loose constantly! I have a Gen 8 scout with a Zoosky 35kg servo from Amazon, that is plenty powerful. But just lately my servo horns keep coming loose no matter how much blue loc tite I have or even with a star lock washer. I just got done ordering a variety of different servo horns and mostly I'm tired of the clamp style ones. Can you please recommend a great servo horn? I do have wheel extensions that bolt to the back of the wheels. I learned a lot from this video but also I have never burnt out a servo yet!🤞lol So now my real concern is you mentioned voltage. I run a 3s SMC lipo at most times & I looked up voltage for this servo it's peak is 7.4v! So because I run a 3s I have to find a 3s servo is this what you're saying or recommending? All of the ones I've looked up are quite some loot. Any help, advice, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also I installed the brace exactly as you have done. Should have done it sooner to avoid ripping out my aluminum C hub from the diff and bending the 3 screws that held it into place. Now I have Treal front & rear metal differential! Very beefy! Sorry for the long post sir hope that you have a great day and keep up with the great videos and information! 🤘🤙👍

My bigger problem is that servo's that I've used say they are waterproof and aren't, should have been labeled splash proof

i dont stear a non moving truck ,and never park your truck with turned wheels for watching how your bros make the trail with there trucks.Even to much weight (brass,lead,water sucked foams) stress your servo.

I have a Xmaxx and I keep blowing up staring service after I drive the truck for 10 minutes I can feel it’s hot the steering servo the end points are adjusted had to Hobby shops change out six of them and I can’t tell me why they keep burning out they put one in I’ll bring it home drive it for 10 minutes put my finger on the steering horn and it’s a red hot can it be the receiver that there’s a short somewhere straight out the box when I bought it I burn the steering servo up in 10 minutes brought it back to the hobby shop put a 2085 in broth at home burn that up in 10 minutes and So on and so on

did you say anything about end points?
@ExocagedRC
@ExocagedRC 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I did, but I didn’t dwell on it for long at all. I’m thinking of a whole video just on end points as there is a lot to cover on that with different vehicles.

being a mechanic I know all about wheel angles and my god is it bad in the crawler rc's. the reverse ankerman than is all too common really bothers me, that's not helping your limited steering what so ever.
