Its amazing the stamina he has at this age---he's not just playing fast, he's hitting hard too.

Tom Hunting has always managed to take one simple pattern and make it groovier, funier, heavier, and more technical. Only a few achieve that. He is one of a kind

I've never seen a double bass run as long as that from Tom! Never really saw him as a "double bass guy", except for fills and such. Amazing drummer either way.

And compare him to a sellout like Lars Ulrich, who's been drumming for basically the same amount of time and has lost all of his edge. Tom is truly an incredible specimen and one of the kings of thrash metal.

He does all those fast, complex runs, yet he keeps impeccable time! To me, if a drummer misses time, even once, it sounds like a train wreck to me. Some of what I call great drumming is very simple technically, but that timing was perfect . Tom Hunting has “it,” and yet he’s blasting out some very technical, complex runs. Wow!

I know Paul bostaph played this on the album, but did Tom actually write the drum parts? He sounds like he is the one who wrote it,I can't explain what it is, but as a drummer of 34 years, this feels like his song,it just sounds and feels like it belongs to him, and as good as Paul's version is , Tom's drumming sounds more natural in this song, maybe it's because Paul is like a metronome and seems to have perfect click timing in his playing on every song I've ever heard,it's very noticeable when he was doing slayer stuff that Dave Lombardo wrote, it just felt and sounded to safe , Dave Lombardo uses tiny peaks and troughs throughout all the songs where he plays with timing, and it's a difficult thing to copy, you either have it or you don't,to me ,Tom is right for exodus, Dave Lombardo is and will always be the only drummer that worked well for slayer, and I think Paul's best stuff was with testament.
@srajeshwarishastry76463 жыл бұрын
This can be true actually because I've have heard that before leaving the band Rick and Tom were working on the demos of the songs which appeared on Shovelheaded killing machine.
@cordellwalker70492 жыл бұрын
I always thought Paul's timing and double kick was sloppy, particularly live. They can fix things in the studio, but when you see him live, you can tell. He tends to play the fast stuff too slow and the slow stuff too fast. Where when Dave plays, you can tap your foot to it and the transitions are smooth; when Paul plays them They are jerky, speeds up and slows down and the double kick sounds like shoes in the dryer.
@rollforeverderbs2 жыл бұрын
Tom Hunting played on at least a handful of the songs during pre-production and he thinks that Paul heard the demos and took inspo from them. From the looks of the "Shovel Headed Tour Machine and Other Assorted Atrocities" documentary, Gary also gave constructive criticism to Paul with his drum parts, probably to make them sound and feel more "Exodus"
