In this video I restore this exotic engine from a VeloSolex 3800 from 1969. I replaced all seals, bearings and lines with new ones. All parts were very dirty and corroded. There was a lot of cleaning to do. I freshly painted some parts.
I'm happy if you like it.

Saw literally thousands of these in France, Holland, Belgium etc. and never realised what a brilliant design and piece of engineering they were. Must be thousands of then left in sheds all over Europe, pity they are no longer used.

Place right next to my house started selling these around 1970. A lot of people were riding them around, but I don't believe I ever even sat on one. They were slow, I ran circles around them with my bicycle. In 1972 I had an old Peugeot moped, it was awesome. Two- way clutch, you could pedal start it. It was very fast if carburetor ran right. About 40+ mph.

Thats awesome to see it done how I do it, for the first time, using lubricant spray on the tight old corroded nuts and bolts, instead of seeing everyone else undoing all the dry rusty threads causing more wear and damage, great job and no cringing for me to watch 👏 thank you awesomely for sharing 👍

That brought back memories from 25 years ago. I used to ride one of those around London. Despite their 20mph top speed they are a really fun ride. The issue with them is reliability. Maybe I was doing something wrong, but mine needed work on a fortnightly basis to keep it running properly. I ended up with three over a 4 year period. Two late 60's and a new Hungarian one, which I bought in Calais, stripped the engine off of and brought to London on the ferry and train as a bicycle, with all the bits in a suitcase. I also brought one to Lincolnshire on the train from London with a similar tear down to ride at the annual bike night. All good fun. Ultimately I took them off the road when I bought a Brompton folding bike, as my home to work journey was too far by road for a Solex at 16 miles right across from West London to Ilford in Essex. I sold the lot on Ebay about 12 years ago.

Nice job. I'm amazed if you can still get some parts for these. This brings to me memories of 1960s Saigon, Vietnam. My parents were English teachers and I remember the students riding their Velosolexes to school wearing their beautiful white Áo dài clothes. While they took their lessons, I was the little boy admiring their fine black machines neatly parked in a row in the courtyard.

First thing; look through the comments and "play bar" to see if it's running at the end-if not there's no point in wasting 27+ mins to simply look at a shinny version.
