Saw literally thousands of these in France, Holland, Belgium etc. and never realised what a brilliant design and piece of engineering they were. Must be thousands of then left in sheds all over Europe, pity they are no longer used.

That brought back memories from 25 years ago. I used to ride one of those around London. Despite their 20mph top speed they are a really fun ride. The issue with them is reliability. Maybe I was doing something wrong, but mine needed work on a fortnightly basis to keep it running properly. I ended up with three over a 4 year period. Two late 60's and a new Hungarian one, which I bought in Calais, stripped the engine off of and brought to London on the ferry and train as a bicycle, with all the bits in a suitcase. I also brought one to Lincolnshire on the train from London with a similar tear down to ride at the annual bike night. All good fun. Ultimately I took them off the road when I bought a Brompton folding bike, as my home to work journey was too far by road for a Solex at 16 miles right across from West London to Ilford in Essex. I sold the lot on Ebay about 12 years ago.

They were slow, I ran circles around them with my bicycle. In 1972 I had an old Peugeot moped, it was awesome. Two- way clutch, you could pedal start it. It was very fast if carburetor ran right.
