this was amazing, worked great thanks. it would be nice to learn of a way to move existing apps without the uninstall/reinstall because of how much work to reconfigure some apps would be (such as kodi/plex etc)

Glad it helped. You can copy the Apps using x-plore to a USB to back them up I am not sure if this also backs up the settings, some apps (unfortunately not all) do have a backup and restore function in them.

Help please, ive got a far as about 7 mins and typed in ip address and the 5555. Should be 3 lines next screen and one shows disk number eg 8. Mine has the 2 lines but no disk number. Anyone help please

My Firestick 4K doesn't see my brand USB 128 Sandisk Ultra. I don't get the "Unable to read the USB Device" screen. I bought the Auvipal 2 pack OTG cables and tried with both cables on 2 different sticks. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong here. Although it's all pretty straightforward.

I followed yours and others instrucitons for os 6 firestick 4k but the Remote adb shell app says connection failed cant get to command prompt to run any commands etc. on another persons site they say this happens with OS 5 firestick and cannot partition to system internal private memory just external fat 32 I have xplore and it reads the device and memory formated fat 32 is there a partition app that can partition locally part of the drive or did I waste my time and money?

Yes I think so, just as long as the app you are playing it with can play the format you recorded the game in.

If you don't see developer options in My Fire TV options, do this: To enable developer options on your Amazon Fire TV, open the Settings Menu, and navigate to My Fire TV > About. Select your device's name 7 times, until you see "No Need, You Are Already a Developer." The Developer Options menu will then be accessible in your Settings.

I have successfully added 600G usb as (50% mixed) external storage, now the new apps are automatically downloaded to the external storage which is very good to see, but the maps of the games I am downloading are still going to my internal storage, so quickly I donot have enough space, what should I do now?

Unfortunately I think the game must be hard programmed to download the maps to the internal storage, unfortunately, I dont think there is anything you can do about this.

It’s possible that the hard drive maybe faulty or is not getting enough power if it’s powered by the usb.

There maybe a problem with the OTG cable or USB Device which is draining too much power and causing the Firestick to Switch off.

Hi Chris. followed the steps and got stuck in the ADB shell. when I type sm list-disks, nothing appears on the next line. I don't see any disk:#,#. went into ES Explorer and no usb drive appears. when I go to about firestick 4K in settings, storage only shows what I believe to be internal storage. I have a 32GB sandisk formatted to FAT32 attached to OTG . Now, I am confused. Thank you.

It sounds like your stick isn’t being recognised, try a different stick.

i use a vpn and so my ip address changes based on which connection my vpn makes. will this affect the step where i have to enter in the ip address? i can enter the current one, but what happens when my vpn connects to a different ip address the next time i turn on my firestick; will it still work? thanks in advance

You are referring to your public IP address you need to enter your local IP address the one that is allocated to your firestick by your router.

@@S0ldiEr891989 I am glad you got it working, if you can get it on a otg cable it will work but it won’t work at full speed because the firestick and cube only has a usb 2 socket which will be your bottleneck.

@@cwtek1 Yeh, got the cube ethernet and extra stoage using the ugreen adapter. Worked a treat. Speeds now up at 250 to 270 on the ethernet.. SO the next question would be does the same setup work on a stick? By this I mean using the ugreen and otg adapter? I ask as the cube has its own power source where as the stick uses the microUSB for all inputs.

Unfortunately you would have deleted the data when you formatted the hard drive, you may need to take the drive to a data recovery specialist to see what they can recover.

Thanks for this. I followed the procedure and my USB showed up at the end when I checked it. When I install new apps, it doesn't show a USB symbol when I look in apps and manage installed. Is there any other way to check if it's working correctly? Also when I look in My Fire TV, About and Storage, it only lists the internal storage on the Fire TV Stick 4K device. It doesn't list anything else for Internal or External Storage. Is this normal? When it is recording, if we record TV shows/Movies, will it automatically record to this device so it doesn't fill the Firestick?

unfortunately it doesn’t sound like it’s working as it’s not showing the usb symbol. To record on the device you need to setup the usb for external storage rather than internal or you can split in two so half for apps and half for media, you need to check with the app developer to see how you set the app to record to to the external storage.

unfortunately not all apps are designed to work from external storage unfortunately until the app developer decides to make them compatible they will need to stay on the internal storage.

Perhaps plug the USB Drive in a PC and wipe the drive clean and format back to Fat 32 and try again.
