How to Increase Storage on Firestick 4K with USB Flash Drive

This tutorial will teach you how to increase storage on Firestick 4K with a USB flash drive and free app called Remote ADB Shell.
One of the most annoying features of the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K is that it only comes with 8GB of storage. After the Amazon system apps are added, there is approximately 5GB left.
Luckily, we can expand storage on the Firestick 4K just like we can on the Amazon Fire TV Cube and older Fire TV Boxes with this secret hack.

1. There should be a better way to copy the APP name and Disk data # so you can transfer file to the USB. This process is entirely to long if you want to move APP's. 2. There may also be a way to do the transfer from the Fire Stick itself to the USB. 3. What APP's need to remain on the Fire Stick to keep it working. I have been viewing you through KZbin and Curiosity Cafe now for about 2 years. I am self taught through internet research and your many tutorials. Unfortunately, I am not as savvy and sometimes find them a bit over my head, especially when I have to install some third party apps to perform a task that also requires many steps. Thank You! Success! After I worked out some of the glitches It worked fine. Just so if you get any questions. My UGreen USB ports did not wwork on my 4K, neither did the Ethernet connector. I used the Amazon Ethernet adapter and the OTG cable directly to my 4K and it got the job done.

I added a USB 3.0 hub between the flash drive and the OTG cable. I then plugged in a USB 3.0 to Ethernet adapter as well as the flash drive. Fire TV immediately recognized and connected with the Ethernet wired network. Works great! So does the extra storage. Question - Can I add another flash drive to the USB hub? Say I want to increase the storage even more....

This works. You have to wait a lot longer though for the partitions. Wait a long time. Then you also have to wait a long time to transfer to the disk. I had to wait a good minute to see success. It’s worth it, the disk filling is my most annoying thing to deal with. They need to find a way to copy and paste the disk name because typing it fresh each time is a pain. All they needed was a cursor option to go back and change the software being moved each time. Also invest the extra $5 in a multi slot otg cable and get yourself the smart mouse

I don't know but knowing that the files are on a usb disk, just remove the disk and your firestick will operate with what's ever loaded on it.. if you want to add those files back to the firestick just downloader them ... or If you want them on the new usb upgrade storage just follow this tutorial and downloader them again.. hope this help

Hey Troy! I have a recent important question I wanted to run across your way in the posts here, but also, I discovered a shortcut or two with the remote to the long typing endurance..lol. The remote play button will instantly submit whats in the box you type in, instead of going all the way down and over... I’ve read in the comments of other videos on using a usb for storage on the firestick, that you can either use the wired Ethernet adapter or the OTG adapter (with usb drive), but not both inline at the same time. Many thanks for your easy guiding videos and help to understand more about fire tv stick. I have one clarification. Firestick ( through VLC or MX player) is not able to output Native 6 channel audio. It just provides Dolby + surround effect with all 5 speakers. I tried by playing the 5.1 (eAC3 audio format in MKV file) videos. However, It does give true 6 channel audio only with Netflix and some Prime Videos. But not with any downloaded videos. I suspect that it's because there is no Android media player which either decodes or passthrough 5.1 audio, all players convert audio to 2 channel audio. Let me know if any workaround for this. I have connected my Firestick to a Yamaha AV receiver. The AV receiver provides info on what type of audio I am providing as input.

If you’re using the Amazon Ethernet adapter, get rid of it. I was having the same exact issue but when I got rid of the adapter and switched to Wi-Fi, my problem went away.

So I did this with and followed all the steps and everything worked Great.. I added a few app including Cinema TV, Strix (vr 11), Troy play store, but all the sudden my Cinema TV began to freeze up on us. Merely hovering over the icon would cause my firestick to freeze up as well. Eventually I decided to restart my firestick thinking it the logical thing to do without resetting it all over again. However, when it rebooted a few minutes later my Cinema Tv and and all other apps I had downloaded to my flash drive were gone. Whats more is that when I attempted to download apps again they downloaded directly to the firestick.. is Cinema to blame? Have you heard anything about this? Also when I would click or hover over other apps I had no problem. It was only the Cinema that was freezing on me.

I got much further watching this video than I ever did on my own. So thank you for doing this. It's great. Couple of questions. 1. I tried to do an 85%/15% split. The 85% I want to use for movies and tv shows. and the 15% for apps. So if I did this correctly, I can see the 85% on my windows laptop to add movies to, just as you've shown here and if I download any additional apps, they should download onto the 15% that I cannot access via laptop. Is that correct? If I want to switch sideloaded apps into that additional 15% partition, is there a way to tell what's what? For example, I want to move the Wolf Launcher over to the 15% partition. @@edgarchin ok this should have worked. if you checked the drive you should see at the bottom 2 files actually 3 . the first is the firestick internal drive and the 2nd and third are you usb card. of these 2 1 file has dm-2 and if you look to you right has some numbers then a line that has mnt on it.. this is where your app files will go and the 3rd line will have the word dev/fuse this is your storage.

I also wanted to do a different split so I used 30 as my number. it worked but it came with 70% for apps and 30% storage. I reformatted again with 70 and that didn't work...once done couldn't be redone.. also did 50 after the last 2 times the numbers were all the same as the first time.. what to do..

Used this tutorial several months ago and everything worked as shown. Recently purchased Insignia Fire TV and plugged a Sandisk usb3 stick into the usb port. I ran through the steps and found the drive and am having a problem running the apps from the drive. Is there a fix for this or do I need to add a firestick 4k to the hdmi port and use it that way. If that works do i still have the option of running the Fire Tv off the original os. In the end I would have Kodi on the new Firestick and the remainder of the apps on the TV or vice versa?

Bought a 4k Fire TV Stick and I was able to get my usb set up to transfer apps over too it! Great! Now that I have Disney+ and some other apps on the usb, some of them are asking for updates. How do you do that? I tried to do an update via the app notification and it keeps telling me I don't have enough space? I'm using a 64k usb for all of my apps, how can I not have enough space? @@MrNorman3rd I noticed this as well. When I uninstalled the app Disney+ from the usb, the Fire Stick storage decreased as well. Uninstalling it and re-installing it was the only way I could update the Disney+ app. I then moved it back over to the usb. I don't know of any other way to do this.

I've tried moving apps from internal to external as shown in your vid, but cant recall disk storage id. Dont want to rerun split commands from beginning as it will wipe all previous data. Is there a way of finding out the disk storage id without having to start over?? Any help would be appreciated, thanks. Your vids n app have been a life saver as I have very little computer skills lol.. Keep up the good work!!

Thank You for your great videos. Is it possible to copy firestick apps on usb to another USB? I have transfered apps from internal storage of firestick to USB. Now i have ordered a new USB 512gb. Is there a way of copying apps from my 32gb USB to my new 512gb? Thank You very much in advance.

Which way should we have the sandisk formatted to the firestick lite before we use this app? Internal Or External? Having trouble formatting my 32gb sandisk. HELP!!!

Troy: Once I've done all this & have various apps on my flash drive. Can I completely copy the flash drive using my PC to a new flash drive & connect new copied flash drive to a new Firestick? I maintain firesticks for my entire family & if I could copy drives this would save me a bunch of time!

If you move kodi over to usb will it move all the cache data along with kodi addons, wizards ect?
