The bi-product created is lactic acid, while not a plant food, it can help chelation of minerals to help soil nutrients become plant available.

Well, if they do double every 20 min, it would only take 2 hours to repopulate that bucket.

They double in number every half hour based on the initial amount that was put into the water. So if 300 ml was the initial amount then every half hour 300 ml will be repopulated. 1 week is not a set amount of time, it’s just the standard in this industry to ensure full population.
