What a wonderful and compassionate way to operate as Jesus would as you’re unpacking this. This clearly is a tough topic for all and we as humans first want to be reactive in vindication vs proactive and properly exposing in love, not approving of it, extending grace and mercy to all and handing all parties, victims and situations over to God for his divine judgements. He knows the heart of all. Vengeance is his, not ours. I say all this to say it’s amazing as you’re speaking how we viewers can see how crafty Satan was to use people in the church for his bidding. Gang up spirits, monitoring spirits, lying and deceitful spirits, haughty spirits and more to oppress, suppress and depress all members on different levels. I pray for restoration and healing for all and your families. I pray you speak up regularly and teach the world through your platforms how Satan is craftily interwoven if we’re not honing our discernment. To re-train us all how to spot the wolves in sheep’s clothing in our lives and what we can do to stand up and come out of that. I can see your ministry helping so many right now. Together we all come back strong in the body of Christ. God Bless you all. I look forward to seeing you all prosper and heal while growing for his glory!!

Praying for everyone! Thank you both so much for handling this with such courage and kindness. Love always wins. It is the most powerful thing in the universe. May the love of God lead us all into truth, transparency, and reconciliation.

I experienced spiritual abuse at the hands of Chad. What a relief to my husband and I to hear he has stepped down!!!

Appreciate you sharing. It was pretty devastating experience when we left a few years ago. Critical time in our lives, and we felt completely dropped by our so-called friends and community of 10+ years. We're better for getting out and seeing clearly-you will be too.

So many people tried to share their stories and address these issues. No one would listen. The leaders were too insulated.

On my way to Intercession Monday night I had a momentary Vision. I saw Chad and Wendy and another couple being weighed down by their efforts to keep control of everything and everyone. As I watched I saw a “pothole” form and I said out loud to the Lord, “Lord this isn’t a pothole, it has become a “ crevasse!” I then felt the tremendous weight that comes from acknowledging this sin. The longer one holds on to believing they are “okay” the deeper the “crevasse” gets till there is no getting out!!! It reminded me of someone with a “seared” conscience. I feel so sad. 🙏😔

If they know the Bible they know what they are doing. The only ones who don't need to take some level of responsibility are the children. Good for you Armando for repenting and exposing this ❤

Armando important to understand the infectious nature of this spirit. It does not excuse your behaviour but explain for understanding and bringing grace in. If a father have these traits the mother and children will multiply if not aware

Continued prayers ! Been in these systems and have had repentive leaders but have not seen system change when a “cultish” spirit is unleashed on a church it is a demonic force! May God have mercy … sometimes Mercy exposes darkness and a church will de solve in order for the people to be under a leadership with pure motives and healthy accountability !

When Armando was talking about what he participated in while still there, Stockholm syndrome came to mind. If you read the "signs" of it, it lists similar behaviors. But, that said, the things that you all have talked about that were said and done by the pastor and leadership are identical to what I have seen and experienced over and over in the church for 50+ years. Same spirit, different decades. It takes deliverance or the leadership will not be free from it.

How do you know the difference between abuse and someone just growing and learning as a leader? For example: a leader that may have some manipulative ways but they are unaware they are doing it. Is that abuse? I do think because there isn’t many people having conversations of what spiritual abuse looks like so to me it isn’t as clear except when clearly there is sexual abuse. How do you know when to pray for that person but keep quiet? I have experienced leaders using some “toxic” leadership skills but from my perspective they were unaware and really thought they were doing the right thing because that’s what other leaders taught them to do. I did pray for those leaders and am no longer connected to them. I don’t think they knew what they were doing at all and simply using “wisdom” that other leaders taught them. I also know that a lot of leaders in general go thru serious serious betrayal and I think when unhealed it becomes almost intertwined with their ministry and they have no idea. Also why I think it’s super super important to have accountability in leadership but I’ve also experienced where there is almost a “click” in leadership so certain things that should be addressed go unconfronted. I struggle with when to confront and when to keep quiet and pray. Not everything needs to be talked about because it can be more harmful than good but I do think where there is obvious abuse you must speak up. There is a very gray area to me of what “spiritual abuse” means. I would love for you guys to even generically mention what that involves and some of the symptoms of how you know you are being spiritually manipulated. Thank you for speaking about this because I think EVERY ministry should discuss what this looks like and have a plan to protect the flock from any kind of manipulation or control.

To help a leader grow, you will respectfully go to them and show them their mistake and why it’s wrong. A leader will correct the issue. An abuser will turn it on you and tell you that you just need to respect authority. They continue in their ways.

I recommend the book Bully Pulpit by Michael J Kruger. It very clearly lays out what is and is not spiritual abuse, and is backed up by the author’s own experience. It’s written to leaders in the church because they are the ones with the access to turn the tide on this exact situation. The root cause according to the author is that we end up choosing narcissistic leaders for ourselves because we want a powerhouse who gets things done instead of a meek and lowly shepherd. I’ve served in church leadership for almost 30 years now, and I have my own bad experiences that I’ve been working through by God’s grace. I appreciate your thoughtfulness on this. There are always layers and no blanket solution. We have to remember that the justice of God is that our enemies would become our family at the table with us. That takes our own wills being crucified as well, and before we approach others with rebuke. Paul said it best: “ Do you want me to come to you with a whip, or in gentleness?”

Wow 🙌🏼♥️ we would love to connect with y’all and share with each other. We haven’t found many that are willing to do this for fear of slandering the church. We’ve been out 5 years from a very spiritually abusive church that caused us to divorce and lose some blood family in there who are also in the verge of divorce. Thank God he restored our marriage and we were reconciled. But we just want to connect with y’all and help lead people to Jesus, healing, and community after spiritual abuse. We love y’all so much. Ty so much for your bravery and obedience ✝️🤍🕊️ God bless you and everyone who hears your heart. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Do the elders / governors admit to seeing this / participating in and enabling all of this over all these years? What was their part and responsibility? With this culture in place and having been under this is unhealthy leadership, who is healthy enough to continue leading this body?
