Love this dude. Never met him but he hit me musically & emotionally. Witnessed him killing it for Bobby Brown’s “Don’t Be Cruel” World tour in 88-89.. Unreal. First of all props to the entire band-top notch. 1 of my 1st world tours I ever witnessed live. Went w/ a drummer friend who is now out there killing it on the road. I was located stage right but not with a straight ahead view. More of a horizontal view. I was facing the stage at an angle due to being on that right side looking at the left. I could only see his kick/snare, the end of the drumsticks & that famous 🎩 that he would wear. Had absolutely no clue what I was in store for. This dude proceeded to frigging obliterate and just cook; big tasty grooves for the entire hour & 1/2. His grooves were so thick and monstrous that I could see wood flying from the sticks in all different directions, from him just laying into the high hat. Just kick drum & snare all night long sprinkled w/ a few tom fills here & there and overall just phenomenal drumming. This is not about me celebrating pure power because every gig is different & you need other traits as a musician;finesse,& being sensitive to the music. As you can see from this video & Zoro’s instructional video, it’s not about power alone for him because he can back off and just simmer at a low boil. As a bassplayer it strengthened my desire & resolve to be relentless & consistent. Give it 777% every-time you sit down at or pick up an instrument regardless of genre. Music fans know when you’re faking & not giving the music your all. If you know anything about BB, his shows at that time were HIGHLY energetic w/tons of choreography and hits. But the main point here is that every song had to groove and I attest that this man’s pocket is HUGE. Zoro was the live drummer for N/E before BB took over the world & his drumming was just as incredible with that group. I remember reading an interview/ article he did for a drummer mag years ago in which he said he once lost a gig he really wanted because his intensity per pocket lacked somewhat. He went home, nursed his wounds and got back in the game; he brought the intensity that was missing from that point on. Although Zoro did show flash/chops that night, what really hit hard for me was that the grooves were paramount, & unbelievably consistent. Full of energy and life. Respect my dude! He deserves his accolades and if you know then you know.

God bless you sir - I got to be at one of your clinics many years ago in Denver. So glad to know that I am a now neighbor - only 200 miles away in Jamestown. Hope to be able to see you at church or in the audience. By the way I wrote a song on Psalm 150 - latin thing in 5/4.

I would like to see more views. This is a Master Class. I'm going back over what I do and rather trying to learn a great deal and accomplishing less, I'd like to see all of what I can accomplish in each piece.
