I’m a bit more reserved with that idea. The Big 12 was already taking in four PAC schools into the new conference. Taking two more would have given an uneven voting block to the western schools. Look how well they worked themselves cluelessly into the PAC downfall. The Big12 needs to help their Eastern schools with more regional opponents.

I'd be interested to see what the numbers would be without institutional support. Texas Tech's athletic department really prides itself on receiving no money from the university, so I don't think they'll ever be at the top of the list because of that. I think the raw numbers from straight up ticket sales, donations, etc... would probably be a better indicator of the health of a program.

@Drake Toll, you need to stop talking about Houston and Cincinnati being added to the Big 12. Houston was a part of the SWC, just like Baylor. The only reason Baylor got into the Big 12 is because Ann Richards pushed it ,is not based on anything else. Baylor had a 30-plus years advantage. Also , Baylor and other Texas schools block Houston because of recruitment. Those schools said if Houston ever got on even field, Houston would become a monster. You don't want to trash Houston, especially when Texas plotted against them getting an invite into the Big 12. By the way, they beat you last year despite coming from a g5. Remember how you got into the Big 12 you had political help Houston didn't.

TCU has a lot of top 10 finishes over last 20 or so years with three of those years finishing #2, 3 & 3 in final polls, highlighted w/New Year's Six wins at Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl & Peach Bowl and a CFP semi win and NCG appearance. Their revenue ranking is not surprising.

The Big 12 has to add them and nearly every other Power 5 school or close its doors like the Pac 12 and the ACC are doing right now. The entire big 12 are outsider programs now, thanks to ESPN. By the way there are 138 FBS schools and Wazzu and the original OSU are 53 and 54 respectively in revenue rank despite the attempts to bury their sports programs.

I agree with others, a 20 year period of time doesn't really matter. College sports and media have changed tremendously in that time. A 5-10 year would have been more reasonable.

I highly doubt those numbers are correct. Cincinnati is a really popular school in a top 30 media market/medium sized city with a lot of support. They have invested millions in their facilities, made the CFP and back to back NY6 bowls in the last decade. There is no way in hell their revenue is that low.

@@kylelavine3913 he has and will always will find ways to bash Cincy and praise UCF he has been doing that since they joined the league. I have no clue what is issue with UC is, he obviously doesn’t like them. You make a fair point with the TV money, obviously the AAC screwed them (but not UCF his drakes opinion apparently). I just don’t see how their revenue is that minuscule when they averaged 38k a home game last season, have big donors such as the co-owner of FC Cincinnati, have spent millions on renovating Nippert, 5/3 Areana, and are building a multimillion dollar training facility. I just don’t see how their revenue is somehow drastically lower than a team like Baylor who is in the middle of nowhere Texas not even close to a major metro area.

I think the AAC was only pulling about $5 million in TV revenue vs the $30+ million the legacy Big 12 schools were pulling. I know Tech’s total TV payout is usually around $50 million, so there was a huge disparity there for Cincy, UCF, & UH.

It should be pointed out that the Big 12 gave California & Stanford a very hard NO! Kansas State, Iowa State, Oklahoma State & Texas Tech were adamantly opposed to this one. As for Oregon State & Wazzu, their lacking numbers also say much on why their were the forced step children of the Pac-12 for the better part of 60 years since the reorganization of the Pacific Coast Conference in 1959 and legislatures in both Olympia & Salem forced the issue. They really are more WAC/MWC-esque in their branding appeal. Cal & Stanford on the other hand are so academically pretentious with little athletic bite beyond perpetual Olympic sport national titles (rowing, fencing etc…) that they weren’t worth the headaches the league would incur by accepting them despite the 6th largest media market in the SFO Bay Area.

Simply not enough interest in OSU and WSU in the footprint of the BIG 12. Including those former PAC 12 teams that have now moved on into the BIG 12.

@Drake Toll, the Texas Tribune, had an article on Aug. 10, 2016, about how Baylor needed political help to join the Big 12. Because Baylor on their own wouldn't have had many invitations to join other major conferences because of being a smaller private school. And with little history of football success. Baylor fans can't say anything about the Cougars joining the Big 12. Your 30-plus year advantage is over. You lost to them in their first year at home, what will they be able to do in 3 years. Also, Houston and Texas Tech will be getting 1 billion in endowment from the state of Texas after Bill was passed. They are a Tier 1 research school now. What will they be in 3-5 years.

Your comparisons are really history and not meaningful today …….when you compare UH making $7million in media revenue in their conference…vs Baylor or other Power 5 schools making $30 to $40 million for the last 20 years!! Getting stuck with minor bowls and limited access to the playoff system …Get real….the $30million/yr. or so difference..is only $600 million of that difference!! The schools in AAC had to subsidize their athletic programs to keep them competitive../ afloat……which to their credit…they still were damn competitive……How can a program like Cinn and UH .be competitive with so much less money?? Is there waste out there amongst us?? Of course not?? Does money result in wins….ask A&M that question…Ha! …UH / Cinn. like TCU ..urban schools….have brought major markets to the table…where Alumni live and work for all the schools…a synergy that sometimes gets lost. Ex…there are more Baylor and Tech alumni in Dallas and Houston…than in Waco / Lubbock ..to make a point.😊 The parents of your students mostly live elsewhere. A little off the subject but …..this is … One reason why we should have brought SMU into the fold….our shortsightedness on this was astounding….just because of past bad blood and to keep them from competing for recruits….we shunned them….so how did that work out for us. …?? now that they are competing stronger than ever…in a comparable conference, and we lost a strong and growing Dallas market…..that is still growing…with loads of advertising dollars……SO now ..all of our working Alums that live and work there…don’t get to see our Teams in person in that market…..We were blinded by our smugness and provincial like thought…just like UT/OU ..Sad but true! When are we going to start thinking like the networks …the people that pay our schools ……TVs and people in the stands watching and merchandise sales and bringing advertisers into the fold….is all that they care about…not your histories and folklore! And they are losing money….which does not bode well when negotiations return,,,,,Not trying to sound like sour grapes….but we are in a fight for our lives and the enemy has more ammo and a competitive advantage …the Devil ( ESPN) is lurking in the background! have Better brand names…better financial bases…and a whole lot more Alumni thru the years due to our many private schools, our smaller size, and/or shorter histories. So looking out…..to the future…. Our next big mistake from an expansion and growth perspective will be San Antonio….a top 10 market in the Nation in our breadbasket…UTSA..is an up and comer….and from a dominance /market share standpoint we need the Austin/San Antonio markets….and from a realistic standpoint…San Antonio /Austin market itself is bigger than most of our states….Kansas, Oklahoma, Iowa, Utah and Colorado..the 7th largest market in the Nation…I know UTSA is young and a little unproven….and some of you are saying…not another Texas school….well bullshit…if you want more money brought to the table by the networks…we need to deliver better markets or we can just sit on your hands and be satisfied with what they decide you can have! Out.!
