Enjoy your videos. I like it when you show neighborhoods around Lake Chapala. Could you do a video on the Chapala Haciendas neighborhood? Also Brisas de Chapala neighborhood? I especially like that you explain where you are at, and street names, etc. AND explain what you are seeing. Videos that drive through areas, but don't say anything about where they are or what you are seeing, don't help a lot. They just give me a lot of questions. I do enjoy all your variety of videos! Thank you!

Great job with your camera setup. You are so funny. Love it. My laugh for the day at your jokes. What kind of entertaining did you do in Guadalajara? I'd love to know more about that. I have gone to Monterrey off and on for more than 20 years. As you know, the cities have been there for a very long time. Literally all the people I know and have met and stayed in their homes still cannot put toilet paper in the toilet. Mexico City was that way the last time I was there, but that was almost 20 years ago. Actually I was surprised the last time I was there that the mall actually had nice restrooms for a change. I have no doubt that the Americanized Lake Chapala and other similar areas have better standards, but there is a ton of "Old Mexico" still around, and looks like it will be for a very long time to come. ;-( My observation was that it took American companies arriving like Walmart, Starbucks, all the chain eating places, etc, to show them what a restroom is.

Composting toilets separate the liquid from the solids - if they mixed, that would generate a smell. So poo in a waste can by itself would not generate much of a stink. I have heard that the same practice is done in some areas of Greece due to narrow toilet piping.
@rassabossa4554
@rassabossa4554 5 жыл бұрын
I have a composting toilet on my boat and use "ye ole bucket" in the campervan when absolutely necessarry. If the poo and pee are separated, as you mention, there is very little smell. I was at an Airbnb in downtown Ajijic last month that could not handle paper due to it having to be pumped up to street level and wet paper doesn't like to climb hills. I have never had a problem with smell from poo on paper. It dries really quickly. It's usually guys that can't aim that make some public baños smelly.

Canada Post makes oversea's packages minimum usually 4 weeks up to 8 weeks is so typical. More closer to 6-8 weeks. Occasionally it is 12 weeks from Malaysia, Hong Kong, China. The reason is, if the packages are not paid shipping it is a month at least delay. They throw them all in one huge bin and leave them there until a few weeks of priority mail shipping is completed once or twice first. I have a daughter that works for Canada Post. I called Canada Post about this and they said we can't check tracking for any packages from oversea's. Hmmm the real reason is it is not paid for shipping and the packages are buried so very deep in a bin of over a month's worth of packages. Great video content as always!

Another lip-smackingly good video Jerry :) Never noticed that before, I'm sure I'll forget it soon enough. Keep at it. A few thoughts on sound There is a definite echo. I don't think it's bad/distracting, but there are a couple things to try if you don't like it. The hard surfaces are what makes that room so "live" acoustically. You'd need to build a "cushion fort" or hang blankets around you to keep the echos from the mic-- that'd definitely effect your lighting :) If you moved to a room where you have more furniture and/or wall hangings-- or put more of those in that room-- you'll find they soak up a lot of those echos. You might check and see if your camera has a jack for an external mic. If it does, I think you'll find an inexpensive lavalier (lav) mic will reduce echos. It'll give you more options recording outside too. You'll find a bunch of them here: amzn.to/2J4hBEO (no, it's not an affiliate link ;)

Hi JC, thanks again for your informative channel. The humidity doesn't particularly bother me and I'd like to explore housing options on the west coast. I've been to Playa de Careyes...a lot of high end homes but I enjoyed the micro-climate with fewer bugs and less humidity. 1. What places (not overrun with Tourist) would you recommend I explore further? 2. What are the caveats in owning property near the seaside? (perhaps better to rent/lease?) 3. What about Baja?...is it mostly governed by the same rules/regulation as mainland Mexico? thanks and keep up the good work!

Explore Melaque / Barra de Navidad. You can own property through a Mexican bank on the coast ... many expats do. Its often called a lease ....not exactly that ... kinda like a trust deed if you have a mortgage in the US ... 99 year agreement, renewable, passes to your heirs. There's a yearly maintenance fee paid to the bank that holds the title. This is not a loan arrangement. Study it. Baja???? There are 32 States in Mexico ... Federal law applies to Baja, some State laws will be different ... just like in the US. :)

Hi JERRY, Again a great helpful video ,thanks. You mentioned you can pay your electric bill on line. We have set up a Charles Schwab account can the electric bill be paid through them. ? We are also wondering how to pay our rent? Will it be necessary to open a Mexican Bank account? If So how would we know the best bank ? Love what’s on your mind
@JCTravelStories
@JCTravelStories 5 жыл бұрын
You can pay phone and electric online with a credit or debit card, so, YES, you can use your Schwab account cards for that. Paying rent depends on the landlord or rental agency. It varies from cash in pesos to check on a US bank. Probably you will not open a Mexican bank account. Its more difficult now than it used to be for US citizens. The IRS requires foreign banks to do a lot of paper work for US citizen account holders. They don't want to bother with you unless its a sizeable balance. Its not necessary to have a Mexican bank account. :)

Okay this is the second time I wat4ched this my husband didn't get to it so now we both watched this one. We work together at home. Some days I don't help him blow glass. The first time I didn't notice the unicycle. I used to ride one for fun. I think I still could maybe (probably not a smart idea to to try). So can you still ride one ? What were doing when you were performing? Really Love Lynn's wit. She is classic. Love when she said "Solid" in the video with the scorpion.

Hello Jerry! Another great video, and when you were making this video we were also in Ajijic, visiting for the first time. I've originally learned about Ajijic from your videos and wanted to check it out for myself, so my son and I spent a week in early July there, came back only yesterday. What can I say, it's even better in person that I've gathered from your videos and I wish I still was there, walking the Malecon in Ajijic, going to the Peacock house for dinner. Will start to work on getting a permanent residency there, already met with the same lawyer that you recommend and got a real estate agent, although different from the one you've mentioned in comments. The only problem is that property in Ajijic is out of reach for me already, and it's going up in price. What is another walkable and safe town around lake Chapala that you can recommend for us to take a look at in regards to buying a house there? We drove through San Huan Cosala and it doesn't look as welcoming as Ajijic. Although the thermal spas there are great, we visited both and they are world class but virtually unknown outside Mexico - we were pretty much the only foreigners there. Do you think it is safe to live on La Paz in San Huan? They seem to have more affordable houses there, right along the lakeshore. Thank you in advance for any insights you can share!

Yes, I think San Juan is safe .... if you befriend your Mexican neighbors you will be recieved and respected in kind. Its a short drive into Ajijic for the restaurants and things you found that draw you. :)

@@JCTravelStories thank you so much for your reply, Jerry. So we will consider San Huan then, they have some new developments further away from the lake, maybe we'll find some there or buy a lot and build on it, we'll see. I would like to try getting permanent residency first, and they settle down with more confidence

You might also think about North East of Chapala, the traffic to get to places is a lot less as well as he house prices. The traffic getting to Chapala and Ajijic is much lighter. I would still advise you to rent for at least six months, before you buy. If you build, you need to live here while your house is being built. I have lived here for 26 years. Owned 4 homes, and rented 4 homes.

JC, in one of your replies to a question posted below regarding real estate properties, you responded by suggesting that the person" come down to the area for 6 months, and get a feel for the neighborhoods. " My question is, what are the times of the year that you would suggest? And is their a time of year to not come? Always smile watching your videos and your responce to the woman asking about being a widowed woman coming down by herself was most humerous. Thanks for another fun one.

Our favorite time of the year is the summer ... rains at night, cool days up there in the mountains. May is hot and dusty before the rains start. Jan and Feb are busy with lots of snowbirds in the area. However, any time in Ajijic is better than most of the time in a lot of other places. :)

Thank you, Jerry, for another helpful and enjoyable video. A question I have about the air quality in Ajijic. As I look at weather conditions on Weather Bug each day, I check where I live and lso look at Ajijic. The air quality in Ajijic is consistently lower so I wondered if this is actually noticable?

I can be dusty in May and June before the rains start. Otherwise, its not noticeable. The prevailing winds are towards Guadalajara, so that and the mountains protect us from the city air .... which can be very bad sometimes.

There are a couple of mail services here. One is iShop. Google it. You have a Texas address and they bulk ship everyone's mail to Mexico regularily. So you have a local mail box here. iShop was in my video a couple weeks ago about San Antonio Tlyacapan.
