Tricare covers what Medicare or VA covers, period dot end of the chat...so does Medicare cover overseas nope, does VA cover overseas nope.

I thought the same thing until 3 days ago when I went to the doctor for antibiotics, a simple enough visit. My heart resting rate came up in the 30s. I was admitted immediately. Long story short, I got an angiogram and a stent. P460k cost. Still didn't fix the low resting heart rate , so I may have to get a pacemaker. I turn 65 next month so I'll be getting Medicare. Guess I'll be going back to the US for big stuff.

@@telcobilly If you're able to travel but if you're disable, airline company will not take you as passenger. You will need an Air Ambulance which is very expensive. $100,000 or more.

In my experience PhilHealth is cheap but is also, often, will cover next to nothing and for non-Filipino citizens all of the medical services that matter are excluded. All local private insurance plans also offer very low coverage in exchange for premiums. As for if the benefit may exceed the annual premium in most cases, hard to predict. But I would recommend everyone have real health insurance. Cigna Global is real health insurance and they offer reasonable rates and a wide range of customizable deductible options, especially if you exclude the US as a location for treatment. Excluding US treatment shouldn't be a concern as there are excellent hospitals in the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Australia, Japan and many surrounding countries if a need arises.

I'm age 67 in May 2023 I have post spinal cord cervical de-compression since July 2012 of which I've been taking medication ever since, I also suffer with raised blood pressure not receiving treatment. However, I'm taking medication for high blood colesteral. Coming to the Philippines in late Feb 2023 to apply for SSRV. From what you said in this video Pacific Cross is my best option. Furthermore, Pacific Cross has been recommended to me before, I'm told they are world wide health insurers coverage.

The Philippines is only good to visit, period. To live in is another story unless like he said you are getting $8000 a month pension. Yeah the USA maybe expensive but when you are insured specially with Medicare and best hospitals the Phil will never ever match. I visit the Phil once or twice a year and that is about it. Moving to the Phil is not for everyone.

We live on a budget if $1100 to 1200 a month. But we also live much more simple than the western world. It really matters your expectations to budget. Places like BGC in the Philippines it's very western living but you also need a bigger budget, simple living would still be about $2500 a month for two people there. As for the car, I wouldn't as the fees to import are ready high it's actually cheaper to import a brand new car than a used one. There is a limit on how much value you can bring here assuming you have the SSRV (retirement visa) I'll plan something on this for the future, Ill need to do the research first and do an interview with ex pats who have moved their valuables here. We left with 2 suitcases only.

Thanks a lot for the timely response. We are going to visit next year to PI. Our target might be Taguig (like Las Vegas Venetian), Bonifacio, Palawan, go back to Tagaytay or Baguio. This time will spend about three to four weeks there in PI or perhaps even six weeks. Will visit about January/ February next year because the weather is tolerable. Your vlog is unique in its own because your topics are a necessity especially for us Filipinos living here in abroad. Love to see the street foods. Great video as I was pondering an extended trip as my Danish mate goes for six months a year without healthcare insurance. I'm saving this and subbing! A tad off topic, but I injured my leg playing football in Japan 9 years ago and by then my travel insurance had run out. My Japanese girlfriend phoned two hospitals who wouldn't treat foreigners but a third one did. I saw a doctor and nurse and was prescribed 3 sets of useless pills lol and it only cost about £50 / $60, which properly amazed me.

At Makati Medical Center it’s against the law to ask you money during emergency. They ask only your insurance after 3 days. Tricare is acceptable. If your a Medicare they pre paid your hospitalizations in the Philippines as long as you correctly check the options

wow, I didnt even think of the issue of pre-existing health issues. I had stents put in my heart area to increase the blood flow. Im fine now that its been over 7 years ago. however, I've been taking plavix and metropolo for this issue. will be taking them for the rest of my life. now I'm wondering if i'll be able to get these meds there in the islands.

American people should consider affordable medicare part D, and virtual visits with doctors stateside. I plan on splitting time between America, and Pinas anyway, but I'm counting on my adult daughter to airmail my meds several times yearly via LBC. Sounds like philhealth, plus a peso plan, will suffice, for my needs, plus, I plan on buying gold level philhealth for my wife as well

That's an interesting remark about CANADIAN socialized health care if you are gone for 6 months and 1 day or more from Canada that you lose your Canadian coverage until you are back for 3 months or more. Very interesting conversation. Do you also have information about HOME OWNERS INSURANCE and AUTO/MOTORCYCLE/ATV insurance in the Philippines? My wife and I are building a house in the Province, and it's going to be a decent house -- need to know where/how to get home owners insurance in the Philippine, and WHAT ALL they DO and do NOT cover? For example, if I have a house fire in the USA and my house is destroyed, they will pay to rebuild my house, pay 80% towards "personal belongings" based off the replacement value of the house + they will pay for up to 12 months of housing and costs while that is being rebuild (in a hotel / rental home, etc.). And, is US MEDICARE able to be used at all in the Philippines? If not, if you pay out of pocket and get an itemized bill for services, can you get reimbursed through US MEDICARE if you are 65 and older? Any help would be greatly appreciated. And, thanks again for doing these videos -- good information and much appreciated!

Please clarify: 1) Do you need to get your Philippines health insurance coverage before turning age 65 or before 66 or you are SOL? 2) If you get it before the end of your 64 or 65th year then you can continue with coverage with an annual increase?

Can you get Medicare in Guam? If you have Original Medicare, you have coverage anywhere in the U.S. and its territories. This includes all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands. Most doctors and hospitals take Original Medicare.

If health care is that cheap and good in the philippines or in southeast asia. Their countries would give it to their citizens as a national health care plan. These plans that they offer are outlawed in america and the advance countries of the world.

In my own experience, if you have no preexisting conditions, then the pacific cross and cigna plans look great on paper no matter what age you are (comparing with the USA). BUT if you are older AND have pre-existing conditions like high blood pressure or pre-diabetes, then you're out of luck. To date, I have not found a plan yet that will cover me for primary catastrophic needs like a heart attack or stroke because of the pre-existing conditions I mentioned even when they are controlled taking inexpensive maintenance meds. I'm hoping to find a plan that will cover most catastrophic events even if they have loading (increased premium for specific conditions or events) or limits on how much they pay out for events related to pre-existing conditions (see 14:40 in video). Something is better than nothing. About PhilHealth: The philhealth card will get you admitted to a hospital for treatment, but any catastrophic coverage is limited (or none) for expats. I consider it only as a door pass for admission. So make sure you have credit cards or cash reserve to get treatment or the hospital may send you away. Good luck.

Not yet. In fact, I just got declined by Now Health Insurance. That's 3 insurance companies so far. Geez, it seems like I'm in real bad shape when I only take cheap blood pres meds and metformin. ​​@@mm96817 I hope you're able to get you're health issues sorted out. As a Filipino I am going to be honest this isn't the best place to be for people who have major health concerns to be. You'll be better off in your own country perhaps you can come for a few weeks at a time until you get your issues sorted and fixed. My advice is eat super clean diet there (fruits and vegetables and healthy protein), no alcohol, no junk food, no added sugar foods, no processed food, constant exercise daily, strength training too. Time to get serious.

My asawa and I are currently living in North Carolina, USA with our two children. I've been to the Philippines many times... in fact, my wife and I just bought about a 1400SQM beach front lot right near you in Aklan (Nabas area). We can see Boracay from our lot. Looking forward to traveling there when the Philippines fully opens without some of the restrictions that they currently have in place. Healthcare is the single most important consideration for me, as it is for many expats. I am also a veteran with access to US VA care in Manila. Keep up the great informational videos. If you have a pre-existing condition you are screwed...unless your super rich! One year waiting period and then higher premiums. You could be wiped out in no time. Plus SS will transfer you your money, but say bye-bye to Medicare - unless you want to keep paying for it and hope to return to the states in the nick of time to get treatment. Am I wrong?

Your vlog is very informative. I am a nurse in CA, and I have taken care of patient who have suffered a catastrophic stroke that left him a quadriplegic, he's only 38 years old. He is on Medicare and under his wife's health insurance. The premium his wife pays is about USD$900-$1000 every month. His wife asked me if there is a cap on Medicare. Because her husband was hospitalized twice from pneumonia and was placed in ICU for 3-6 weeks, each time. The total hospital cost was more than USD$550,000 -USD$600,000. Medicare only paid 80% of that amount. The wife has to pay the 20%. She said it is still too high. Her company's health insurance only pays USD$30,000 each time, because it is a small company, according to them. She is in tears and asking me where to get more help. I don't know what to tell her.

A false sense of security at best meaning ignorance is bliss and hope like hell we stay healthy for the most part ! I only have medicare part A, because it's free. I've heard that part B costs $180.00 monthly. You can get a lot of medical care in the Philippines for $180.00. I plan to have a separate savings account that is only for medical and dental. I also have credit cards for backup, if needed. You can't use medicare in the Philippines anyway, although I've heard that there's maybe 2 hospitals where you can use medicare.

My brother, an expat lived in the Philippines for nearly 25 years. One day he developed a lump on his neck and went to see two doctors in the Philippines. They told him he had only 6 months to live. He flew back to the US and went to the City of Hope cancer center. They recommended that he should go into chemotherapy instead of surgery. That was 10 years ago and he is still living today but he plans on coming back to the US because they do not have the proper health care (Philippines) like they do in the US.

well, i don't know what plan/company Mr Onstand represent but it is not the same the one that I had used to. Pre-existing condition cooldown for the one that I had is 3 months. Most of the time, you can get away with a plan with a max ben. limit of Php 200,000.00 (the one that i had had MBL of 300k per illness). My grandpa before was hospitalized for 2 weeks in ICU and we had a bill for $2,500 (actually paid $1,500 due to Philhealth and some pledges, and yes you can ask assistance from PCSO), if that is on US that would be easy hundreds or even a million dollars depends on the DRG on the patient. And the last question you ask if you can seek medical needs even outside manila or cebu, answer is yes to what i had previously but it is limited to ER and special case senarios. You need to pay it upfront first and you just need to upload documents and you'll be reimbursed and you can withdraw the amt directly on you membership card in ATM usually Megalink ATM banks.

The VA clinic in Manila really only covers service connected disability issues and issues related to service connected issues. They are not like the clinics in the states that provide a lot more services.

@@Alex-10_Bingo The issue to me is a clinic covers minor stuff, no VA Hospital so no in patient care. Medicare does not cover overseas after what is it 6 months. So do I want to live their at sufferance as a non citizen? or do I want stay USA with my Medicare and VA and TFL which is the best supplement, if I decline Medicare you lose Tricare, yes you save 170 bucks but at a cost, and Pacific Cross will cost a bunch as you age. So it is a lot to consider.

@@Alex-10_Bingo Are you missing the point? VA or Medicare does not cover overseas...so Tricare is a lemming, and it also will not cover overseas...Clinic will cover minor shit, asprin, bandaides, etc...after that you are on Pacific Cross, or whatever you buy. No Hospital for VA you are screwed.

If I’m involved in a motorcycle accident in the U.K. someone would call 999 and in a matter of minutes you would be in an ambulance with paramedics . I know in the Philippines this is not the case. What options are available? For example , what’s the cost for an on call local ambulance service with national coverage?

I'm from the UK, but now living in the Philippines - I have benefitted significantly from the NHS, by the way, following accidents etc. Incidentally, the same applies to HK, which has a health system based on the NHS. Anyway, I had a bike accident here in the Philippines a couple of years ago that required hospitalisation and surgery. Our family has comprehensive medical insurance through our bank. The treatment cost around USD4000, but we reclaimed it within two months. We pay around USD1500 p.a. for a the family plan. None of us has a pre-existing condition. I recommend that you inquire at your bank for your options.

How does insurance companies in the Philippines know you have a pre-existing condition? You can get diabetic medicine over the counter with no prescription, so how do they know? Do they request your medical history from your country?

They mostly trust you and then the 1st year is basically a probation as they need you to get a check up and the dr that is approved by them will find out what you have.

Medicare does not cover outside the US and territories; however if you have a medical coverage from your retirement job, you might be able to get reimbursement in an emergency basis only.

If you have a supplemental plan like I have with Humana healthcare services your first two months overseas you’re covered for emergencies, but why else would you go to a hospital you pay cash and they will reimburse you
