I know when I tell my friends and family that I'm going to retire in Nicaragua, they will say, "You Are Crazy." So I haven't mentioned it to anybody. Funnily, you've become the person I can share my excitement with, in a sorta meta para-social way. It's a great relief, so thanks.

awww... well it is cool being your go to excitement sharing person :) I totally get getting burned out on "you are so crazy" talk. Well, I am super excited for you! Congrats. When is your retirement set to happen?

@ScottAlanMillerVlog I hope to be there come April. It's not the best time I know, but I have a lot to organize: selling everything, pet transportation, and I like to leave as soon as I'm able.

@altongarcia Us too. From Alliance AB. Two of us with 2 dogs. After we visit Feb and March we'll come home to wind down our business, auction equipment and vehicles, and sell our acreage. September 1st is our planned move date. We haven't encountered anyone questioning our sanity. Probably cause Canada's outlook is very grim.

Nicaragua is definitely one of the best places in the world for a very relaxed, safe, and affordable lifestyle. In the middle of everything too. Warm weather and the Latin life Aahhhh! I'm there bro! Thanks Scott for all the info on this beautiful country.

STUFF! Or really, my wife's STUFF! Moving from Portugal to Malaysia with, I estimate, 10 suitcases is somewhat expensive. I can fit my goods and chattels into 2 suitcases!!! How can I persuade her to give away her winter clothes??? Yes, she is aware we are moving to the tropics! MADNESS!

Scott, What would the ball park price range be for hiring an immigration lawyer in Managua for procuring a Rentista visa?
@ScottAlanMillerVlog20 сағат бұрын
These prices are probably on the high side, but indicative. Not totally out of line... thewanderinginvestor.com/services/residency-and-citizenship-by-investment/how-to-obtain-residency-in-nicaragua/

How do you get it down to just 11 suitcases? I need to cram all my stuff into a full 40-foot container, and I feel anxiety because nobody talks about how to ship their stuff? Too much culture shock if I can not bring all my stuff. I can not imagine just 11 suitcases unless the USA is the Titanic which will be on the bottom of the ocean within the next hour or two? And why Nicaragua? Isn't that the place of drug gangs? There are other places in Latin America that are a bit more modern and with more expats?
@ScottAlanMillerVlog22 сағат бұрын
Few people talk; about shipping, because almost no one does it and those that do almost always regret it. Drug gangs in Nicaragua? What? Nicaragua is the safest country in the region. No gangs, no drugs. Maybe you are picturing the US or something. That's the opposite of here. You pick NIcaragua when you want safety, tranquility, low cost of living. Expats bring drugs and crime. Costa Rica has 300% the violent crime of Nicaragua, horrible cost of living, and the crime tends to be on expats whereas Nicaragua's low crime is mostly between criminals. And Nicaragua is #1 for women's rights and safety in the western hemisphere. I have daughters, so the human rights advantages of Nicaragua matter more to me. Modernity is subjective. Housing in Nicaragua doesn't tend to be modern. But your ability to afford modern is far better. But we have the leading infrastructure in the region. All depends on how you perceive modernity. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6nIpKGvrdOFos0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGSsZYOqq52BkK8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqfYlGmoiLuMarM kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6aVaIx9btCEnZY kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKWap5uflLZ8i9k

@yosefmacgruber1920 Bring a small suitcase and a lot of love in your heart!! Your life will be a life of nature, freedom and love in Nicaragua. The material things become a burden...

He's mostly looking at other countries. But the "get down to a suitcare" thing is SO powerful. ONE suitcase is pretty liminting, but get down to few enough that you can move them when you need to. Four is okay. Two big rollers, two smaller ones that can mount on top. A backpack for daily essentials. If you can't move through an airport / train station with it on your own, you don't want to be encumbered with it in most cases.
@@ScottAlanMillerVlog _Almost nobody does it_ because most all you expats are into adventure and travel, of which I am not. I sit at home about as much as I can, and go to a few church activities because I get tired of my own cooking. If I do not bring my stuff, then most every DVD and book that I cared about is gone for no good reason, and then I have to buy 1000+ items that I already had. What a headache! Are you trying to make it easier for us, or harder? There are reasons why millions more Americans and Canadians are not leaving, who probably should be leaving. Why should I just throw away things that took me decades to accumulate? _Drug gangs in Nicaragua?_ Sure, why not? Something I heard decades ago, never got the memo of the update. Why is is that most every car review raves in glowing colors that every car imaginable is so wonderful? Why is it that all the travel review people love every single place? Something rings dishonest about that. If I could run my filter, half or more would be quickly eliminated. If the moniker of some far-away country is "Bad people live here", and that is outdated, then I need a new moniker to hang in front of that. Such as "My girlfriend lives here", that ought to carry some weight. But all I hear is a few weird far-away cities that sound very foreign and complicated. Yeah, the USA is looking very corrupt and crime-ridden, hence all the surging interest in "get away from here" sorts of videos. Yet Costa Rica was the shiny star of hot expat locations, but it seems to me over-sold and not really that great anymore, perhaps Panama has also been oversold? I feel a bit like maybe I have been misled by certain YT channels singing the praises of Ecuador or whatever place, and if it was so great, then why are they running about in Europe now? Not really trying to talk bad about JP and Amelia, but I feel a bit betrayed. If it was so great, then why didn't they stay? Well "adventure and travel" that many expats are into, hardly what I was looking for. And the more quiet people like me who just want to be left alone, well I guess that type of people aren't as likely to push out another YT video each week? Not saying that Ecuador is a bad place, just looking to listen to other people's views about it. You like Nicaragua, and I appreciate your views/opinions. But in my mind, that place hardly has the best reputation, but I suppose you would tell me that my views are based upon outdated information. Well I can hardly keep up with this complicated corrupt world. When I can finally do an exploratory, I want to buy a home with some storage space, maybe 200 square meters if I can find anything affordable?, right away, so right now, I am trying to watch lots of videos so that I know where to go. I am not getting any younger nor do I have much money, so I simply do not have time for that choice A, choice B, choice C nonsense. If the place is as good as I hear, I want to go ahead and get it done quickly. Toss all my stuff into a container and sell my house and get out before the USA collapses under the weight of the corruption and Democrats. Americans are hurried and stressed due to the high taxes and a fading of traditional family values. I think it good to obtain a 2nd citizenship and passport in this uncertain world. Probably a one-way trip for me. I likely never will return to the corrupt USA, however it looks like I would have to be away for a few years before I can be ready to make the decision whether renouncing my American citizenship really benefits me or not. Maybe I won't need to if certain reforms are made. Probably not a good idea to "hold my breath" waiting for the USA to clean up its corruption. I am pleased to see Trump elected to his 3rd term, however that probably only gives me a bit more time to plan my escape. I am so tired of the lies, corruption, taxes, regulations, of such a has-been corrupt country that hardly even tries to follow the Constitution. I quit watching TV even before the plan-demic. Fake-news much? The TV is a liar and messes with your mind. Controlled by a few corporations that are in bed with the corrupt government. Is there 24-7 electricity? Does the water run? Is it drinkable? Is the internet fast enough to stream video? What more do we need to call a developing country "modern"? Political stability and safety. Low cost-of-living. So what if a building or house is so old that it originally did not have A/C? That is what mini-splits were invented for. Some of the "old" stuff was built a lot better than "modern" junk that soon breaks. Old appliances seem to last forever. They do not even know how to break.
