I’m gonna be honest here. In my opinion Light Bringer is a 3 star book with a lot of 5 star moments. It’s just all over the place. It’s pacing and structure just don’t match up with other books in the series. It was still good, but it 100% feels like a penultimate book where storylines feel very chopped up. I’m still excited for book 7, but this one was a victim of the hype for sure.

@@Talking_Story I read the rest of Red Rising the first time in January. Was generally blown away by the series, especially Golden Son and Dark Age. Just excellent sequels to me that really helped changed the direction of the story.

@@Ghostlyape123 Golden Son did expand the world in such a great way and Dark Age was 1 of the best reads describing the horrors of war I can remember. Other than this series have you had any other great reads in 23?

"The relationships that have been built then cracked then rebuilt..." My goodness this gave me goosebumps! And I loved your Schindler's List's comparison on how we focus on those characters amidst all this chaos. I'm in love with this review although I said it already before. And don't get me started on your "Tomrrrow, tomorrow, and tomorrow", had me in tears!

Great review! Pierce Brown knocked it out of the park. As I was getting to the end of the book, I began to realize we weren't even going to touch on a few of the threads from Dark Age. At first it worried me, but this is why Brown decided he needed two books to end the series and we'll get answers to those threads in Red God. Spoilers . . . But man, the reunion of Darrow, Sevro, and Cassius was so good. Loved it. I was kind of like you and have been holding out final judgment on Lysander... Pierce Brown has definitively answered that question. He is squarely in the evil villain camp and there is no redemption for him now. Hail Reaper!

Hi. Great review. I subscribed. This series so far has been the best I have ever read in my entire life. I am still a relatively new reader, but I am scared to pick up another series because nothing in my opinion can live up to these expectations. The way he builds these characters, then crushes them, then buildings them back up again to me is otherworldly. And how he can relate issues to the first few books blows my mind. I can't even imagine building a world this in-depth just from writing. Do you have any other books that you recommend that are similar to this writing-wise?
@Talking_Story

His style is pretty singular with the Roman influence. I hear the sun eater saga is as close and it is on a lot of people’s favorite list. I am gonna get into it before the end of the year. You could try that 1 with me. As far as making you love characters and then putting them through hell no one does that better than George RR Martin. Try Game of Thrones it is fantasy but the characters and their journey is I think what you are looking for. If you haven’t already read it.
