I am receiving my new mat which is R rated at 7.8 and called the Exped Dura 8r 1,2kg. It is quite a weight but I'm old school and weight is not a thing for me. I would rather have a good nights sleep with gear that is not going to let me down, even in the harshest winter on top of a Scottish Mountain. Addded to the Mat which I have now ( oh boy so warm, you just feel the heat bouncing back to you) much tougher than any Thermarest)) I have purchased a Sea To Summit Aeros Premium Pillow Deluxe. Yes I know, being an old man with many a neck pain, just love my comfort! Most important for me on a Scottish or Lakeland hill or mountain in winter wild camping is a seriously good comfortable nights rest. Proper sleep makes you more alert during the day, and less likely to make a bad decision costing you an injury requiring rescue or worse death!

@JohnCarpenter-tx4vr did you have a dura mat? How long did your mat last? How did it fail?

I would like to see a comparison between the Dura and Downmat.
@charleswinters7129 Жыл бұрын
I think the 6&8 are down mats. I find the down mats are the most comfortable and warm mats you can get. Like all air mats they don’t seem to last as long as I would like. However they do seem to last longer then most of the competitors. Thermorest may be the exception. However they don’t seem as comfortable or as warm to me as Exped. They also make a lot of noise when you move on them. The noise doesn’t bother me but it does my wife.

It would have been nice if you showed all the packed down sizes and VS the Ulta line.. I might have considered the double just to have room to roll around if it packed down small enough.. Hopefully Im happy with the 5R Dura I just ordered.. I sleep cold and got a wakeup call trying to us an MSS bag as a quilt on a un insulated mattress. I sleep like a Pretzel

I have been looking for durability focused mat for quite a while since I really dislike buying new stuff yearly and adding to needless consumption cycle. This one seems to be a great choice so far, especially with 170D material. I also really like the fact you use recycled materials. With that in mind, how does potential repair, especially repair of the valve (which is a part that usually creates problems in my experience) work? Is it possible to repair/change it on your own? Thank you!
@ExpedLLC2 жыл бұрын
Because the valve is laminated to the mat, you are not able to replace the entire valve system. You are able to repair the check valves and the caps.

I want to try the Dura 5R Duo pad in the Long Wide in my Warbonnet Blackbird XLC. I recently bought the Klymit Hammock V insulated pad and it failed miserably. I bought it at a Scout store here in Atlanta and went to the Blue Ridge mountains and It would only stay aired up for 20min at a time. Stuck it under water and found tons of pin holes all over the pad. It sucks it was such poor quality because the design to work in hammocks was well executed but the quality was poor. maybe Exped can make a badass hammock pad for us hammock campers. Pads like the klymit were nice in the hammock because it opened it up instead of wrapping around. The Dura5R DUO has very similar dimensions to the Klymit so I am curious if it will work well in the hammock.

I love exped mats. How durable are the new models? My old mat has got a big dent in it.
@ExpedLLC Жыл бұрын
Hi there. Thanks for the comment. We're glad to hear you're enjoying your EXPED mats. The Dura mats are the most durable inflatable mats in our current line. Regarding your mat with a dent, if you are in need of a repair, please feel free to reach out to the EXPED distributor in your area for assistance. The contact form can be found at www.exped.com/en/contact.

I appreciate the detailed videos. They help me determine which line of Exped to consider. Carbon neutral is not a selling point for me. I buy this line of mat for the reliability and durability. I could do without the virtue signaling though. Just sell me a good product that’s long lasting. That alone is green enough for me. Less waste in the landfill.

For real, they always assume everyone has the same take on it. Can't stand it and it's so prevalent in backpacking realm due to weekender yuppies "recharging"

While creating sustainable products is important, the bread and butter of exped products should be the same as Hilleberg: keep you alive! That creates trust. Trust is everything when navigating winter conditions in places with deathly temps.

What is the actual pack size of the Dura 'LW' 3R and 5R? Different sites say different things....
@ExpedLLC9 ай бұрын
The packed dimensions of the Dura 3R LW are 10.6 x 5.7" or 27 x 14.5 cm. The packed dimensions of the Dura 5R LW are 10.6 x 5.9" or 27 x 15 cm. They're almost the same, the 5R is just slightly thicker when rolled because of the additional insulation.

My mega matt keeps going flat can't find a hole in it but the inlet valve intermittently lets air out when you go to pump it up. Got to pump it up everyday, I'm in Australia and its difficult to deal with warranty with you people in Australia. Its a great matt very comfortable but it hasn't had alot of use. I’m torn between this and the ultra r3. Seems like it’s a weight/size and durability tradeoff between the two.
@ExpedLLC2 жыл бұрын
That is correct. The design of the mats are the same, though the exterior fabric is different, which impacts the weight/size when packed and the durability.

I have an offer to get the Dura 5R for 40 bucks less than the same size Dura 3R. As I probably won't be doing winter camping, is there a point in preferring the 3R because the 5R may be too warm in very hot summer nights?
@ExpedLLC Жыл бұрын
The 3R's advantage is in weight savings, but higher R-value mats aren't necessarily going to make one feel too hot in the summer in the same way a winter sleeping bag might. A higher R-value mat does mean you won't be able to exchange heat with the ground as much, but since heat rises, this usually doesn't result in an uncomfortable "hot" feeling against the pad- it just means more of your body heat is going into your sleeping bag, quilt, or blanket (instead of into the ground). To use an example, although regular (on your bed at home) mattresses also have very high R-values, they're still comfortable to use in the summer (unless you have too many blankets and/or sheets).

How would the synmat duo compare to the Dura 5R Duo? They look quite similar when just looking at the specifications to me. Thank you! :)
@ExpedLLC2 жыл бұрын
The Dura 5R Duo has the same dimensions and R-value as the old Synmat duo, but where they differ is in fabric material. The Dura uses a much more durable (as the name implies) 70 denier top fabric and 170 denier bottom fabric as opposed to the Synmat's 50d top and 75d bottom fabrics. As a result the Dura is slightly heavier (by an oz or two), but much more resistant to punctures and tears. Plus the new material is 100% recycled, which we're really proud of.

This review shows that Exped wide-version DURA mats may only be 58 cm wide, far shorter than the nominal 65 cm. How would you explain it? Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d2fbmaqffL2Hfpo&ab_channel=SurvivalMatty
@ExpedLLC Жыл бұрын
The size MW and LW mats (like the one shown in this review) are 65cm wide baffle-edge to baffle-edge when fully inflated. The actual fabric width from one edge of the mat fabric to the other is more like 75cm, but the mat loses some width (as it gains height) when inflated. The person in this review seems to be measuring from the top of one baffle to the other.
@MrSilentliu Жыл бұрын
@@ExpedLLC Thanks for explaining it! I was about to upgrade my Dura 8R from the regular version to the MW version. This is why I was curious about the width. An MW version has the least discount so its width must be worth the money.
@MrSilentliu Жыл бұрын
@@ExpedLLC I received my ordered Dura 6R LW. The width is definitely less than 60 cm. I measured it and my regular Dura 8R M using the same location and ruler. The 8R is 52 cm wide, no doubt, as rated. Looking at the 8R M and 6R LW together, the 6R LW is apparently not as wider as expected. I am really disappointed. I hope you could explain it.

Please put the politically correct virtue signalling to one side and focus instead on the practical features and benefits of your products.
