Expedition Long Range Hunting | John X Safaris

Joining us again for their 3rd hunt, Bob, Mark and Lisa are back. This time with new rifles and on the hunt for a variety of specialised species on an action-packed extreme long range hunting.
They started off their adventure in the Great Karoo and worked their way south right down to the breath-taking beaches along the Indian Ocean. Follow the team as they embark on a fantastic long range hunting experience. Harvesting Vaal Rhebuck, Mountain Reedbuck, Eland, Golden Wildebeest, Copper Springbuck, Lechwe and Oribi. Uncle Bob’s monstrous Warthog was a certain highlight on this hunt not to mention a number of epic shots at over 1000 yards.
Precision, knowledge and practice make for the perfect shot when it matters most. This was no average long-range hunt. This was an extreme long range expedition.

About the eland shot....you could see the bullet's shock vapor trail do a "rainbow" maneuver at almost 1,100-yards!

Yet another awesome video and excellent shooting. Jeeze, what a warthog! Amazing TUSKS! Another year or two and that Pumba could have poked it's own eyes out. At the risk of sounding cantankerous I just want to add that not all male impala/bucks are bulls i.e Lechwe males are rams. And what is a ghemsbuck? It's either a GemsBOK or Oryx, no? I know that you guys are all souties(English speaking)(haha)but come on. When in Africa... Still top class though, and the epitome of what a rugged, luxurious safari is all about. One day in a dreamworld when the rand is as strong as the dollar...

QUESTION -- Given the onset of more accurate long range rifles, calibers, and optics equipment, are the hunters' success ratios greater on plains game then some 30-years ago?

Yes we feel it is. Long-Range takes some critic at times, but truth be told the guys who are into long-range spend way more time practicing and zoning their skills with extremely accurate rifles. We have been fortunate to enjoy the use of both Gunwerks and Horizon Firearms long-range rifles and they have proven to be a game changer in clean kills. 👍

@@JohnXSafarisExperience Thank you for your response. You're correct in your observations. A hunter spending $12,000 for a rifle and scope combo, expensive ammo and personal time deserves results. That's before he/she even gets to Africa.

Which countries are the majority of your clients from? Do you need to do more control of certain predators, such as Hyenas to keep antelope populations stable?

Hunting and Fishing probably only small predators so.

Good shooting. However, to me it seems more like target shooting. I prefer to stalk as close as possible - thus experience much more of the "hunting spirit." Also less chance of wounding an animal. Regards.

I spot/stalk on foot only with a bow in the US. When hunting with a rifle I don't shoot past 600 on animals I intend to eat. Varmints are shot at distances of 1000 and beyond. I'm in the planning stages for my first trip to SA next year and I will be prepared to shoot past 600 and up to 1000 if needed. It takes quality equipment and a lot of trigger time to have the confidence to take these long shots. Bottom line is no matter the method it is about paying the funds forward to help further grow the population of these animals. My wife is considering doing a vita dart on a Rhino for no other purpose then the experience to be close to that animal and help with the overall well being of the species.
