VR is such a gimmick and again just like when they launched the Saw horror walkthrough as a year round attraction, I can see the number of staff required to keep the live action sections up and running leading to them either shuttering this ride entirely in a year or two or moving it to some kind of seasonal only operation. What's wrong with a well made, well-themed, traditional dark ride? If you put half the budget you put in to this ride in to a horror themed dark ride using a ride system similar to say Dinosaur/Indiana Jones at Disney World/Disneyland respectively, you could create something much more scary and thrilling.

Wish I had seen this before wasting nearly 2 hours in queue for this. It was awful! Cheap low end video game graphics, recordings of real people look like 2D pop ups who do nothing but spout a half-arsed ghost story at you. Most of the experience outside the train has now been cut and it feels completely disconnected from the VR experience.

You know I actually really, really enjoyed this ride! I rode the updated version as my first time, and was lucky to have had a very short waiting time as I managed to catch it just as it was re-opening from being 101. One thing you don't mention is the very well-executed trick where Derren's avatar grabs a "physical" piece of set- the train carriage- that really caught me by surprise. For the rest of the ride I was lucky everything worked fine and my group seemed to be actually listening to what the employees had to say - The transition from suspended to modern station was very impressive and I think the train crash clever in execution. And of course the big reveal when you come out of the suspended carriage at the end made me feel like being the rabbit pulled out of the hat- I was experiencing a grand illusion from the inside. Add to that the really well made fake ending and the whole thing was an absolute blast and a big highlight of my visit that year. To this day I'm still working out the details? so there's one track and a switch platform? how and where do they make the whole motion-carriage-falling effect? is there plans anywhere?

Watching this made me think about "Vengence" in the original London Dungeon site, another "world's first" in a Merlin attraction. It was a 4D ride, which basically meant sitting in a bank of seats that rotated around while shooting at things on big 3D screens. It was dreadful and made so much noise that it ruined the next show as all you could hear was the motor spinning the Sears around. Last I heard it was packed away in a shipping container and kept at Thorpe Park. That could be a new theme of videos to look into too! The Dungeon's and how they've changed over the years. I might even be able to help a bit as I've got an extensive knowledge and collection of bits and bobs.

I appreciate how much effort was put into this ride but the result wasn't what it was hyped up to be. It was OKAY overall. I've been on a few times and it is interesting to have a different character talk to you at the begining some times. I think it's between 3 people you could get? But I thought ghost trains were about GHOSTS! But it went from looking like it might be a hauntef thing going on, to people getting infected, to demons/aliens attacking you.....ok? And I never understood whatthe stort was from start to finish. I think it's cos in the middle part the actors are just shouting at you that I've managed to miss the transaction to people being infected to demon/aliens attacking you. I dont know. And I love Derren Brown which confused me even more why this didn't turn out well, cos I thought he would have put a tonne of mind trickery in it. When really your just in vr with a train that moves and vibrates and actors touching your knees.... Just would have been better if they stuck to ghosts 👻👍🏻

I rode this attraction last week - I was so excited because It was my first time and I love Derren Brown. He is such a clever man and I have been to several of his shows and really enjoyed them. This ride unfortunately really fell short of my expectations. I actually did not see any live actors what so ever when I was there so it was mainly noise and smoke and then onto the next Train. The VR was okay - but the helmet kept slipping off my head so ended up having to hold it on the whole time which made it even less scary. It could have been so much better and has so much potential so I am hoping they will update it soon. Not worth a 60 min wait though! Luckily I had fast track so only had to wait 15 mins or so! I would not have been pleased if i had to wait 60 mins !!
@booth27102 жыл бұрын
Update it? It has never really had a reasonable 'nearly all systems successful rate' since it opened. Been on it twice, first time I was super immersed, everything worked well and the gift shop scare actually scared me. Went on it in October 2018 during fright nights and they've closed the gift shop scare, you just go through like a normal ride. My brother's headset was tangled up in the first sequence meaning that he couldn't watch it. In the second sequence the motion of the train carriage and the VR weren't synced and we had to wait for the motion to catch uo at the end.

I think there was another thing about rise of the demon that improves on the original. Of course there is the "live action" but also the CG in that part was kept in the shadows and not very visible. (At first anyway) This made the experience way more eerie and creepy because of good old fear of the unknown. I really think it goes wrong when the CG is really obvious. Like for example the final part of the original where there is a CG render of a street in London with a massive monster on it which then drops you in to a hellscape straight from the ps2.

Rode this twice a few months after it's initial opening and it broke down both times - first the headset technology broke and the second time we had to be evacuated because of a fire alarm. I remember riding this within the first month of its opening. It was a decent enough illusion but everyone I went with including myself complained about the headsets. Mine was incredibly blurry and I could barely make out a thing and it ruined the ride significantly. If you ride this sit at the end of the cart as hearing peoples screams up and down the train ruin the small touches which are meant to be jump scares.
@COL-14 жыл бұрын
The only bit that actually freaked me out a bit was when the vicious dog runs through the door barking and growling at you, at the beginning, I found the main problem with the "ride" was too many people... You're so crammed in that you can feel the people next to you touching your sides, but on the VR there's barely anyone on the train, they need to either make it a packed train on the VR, or take out a couple of seats so the people aren't touching each other.... That would make the experience more realistic.

Why try to make a crappy new version of the classic ghost train than making a classic ghost train that pays tribute to 40's and 50's ghost trains? They're mostly gone now anyway, so a new old ride would be amazing, with original styled props and sound effects.

Shawn Mulligan I agree, that idea would be fantastic. I really hoped we would get something similar to the original attraction that was there (Phantom Fantasia) since it was burnt down all those years ago. Would have been a much better concept and much more reliable. They are always trying to do ‘clever’ new things when really they should be learning from the past, in my opinion.

I'll stick to the original ghost trains thank you very much

It says a lot when the best parts of the ride are the non-VR segments. Nothing beats good old fashioned theming for immersion.

Anytime I want a thrills and chills ride, I just drive down MLK Blvd at 3am lol.

You should do an updated version now! I went on it yesterday and i was hopeful but really disappointed, would almost say its worse than its original form

I cried the first time I went on this (before I even got on it, as I have a fear of love actors). And it broke down half way through so we were completely bamboozled by the whole experience. We weren’t sure if things that happened were supposed to happen or not. We didn’t actually get told it was broke down until we asked. All four of us just came off like ?????? asking each other what we had seen on the headsets. It completely spoiled our experience of it. Luckily we got a fast pass to ride it again and the proper experience was really good. Admittedly, staff running round touching you is pretty lame but if you let yourself get into the mood for it, it’s really fun

Call me crazy, but I really liked it! I told my sister if it was more realistic looking, I would have had a heart attack. I think if they want to go full on terrifying, they could... maybe they choose not to... anyway, I enjoyed it for what it was, and it made me excited to see what’s next. And yes, a zillion times better than the fast and furious ride, which is horrendous.

im here because derren brown as well as the VR elements are getting off the ghost train this year, you really should make a sequel vid when the new VR free ghost train opens up

LMAO!!😂😂😂 I absolutely love your sense of humor (American spelling)! "Yeah it was none of that! It was rubbish!" and "You could have a scarier experience just riding the tube at rush hour!". Omgosh I can't stop laughing!

Will you do an update video on this since they updated the ride
@TeganRose123455 жыл бұрын
I’ve ridden it twice since it came out, they also removed that crappy middle section recently and just make you run round what is essentially a second queue line

I've been to Thorpe Park like 30 times but my first trip to Efteling is coming up in April, what would you recommend I go on?

@@Akpommed Sorry for that late reply, Well it all depends on what kind of rides you like Do you like Roller coasters, Dark Rides, Water Rides, Flat Rides etc?? Is there any rides you don't like at Theme Parks
@Akpommed5 жыл бұрын
mikey p I’m a big fan of most rides, more into thrills and dark rides though, not too big on water rides. I’m going with my girlfriend who likes the cute rides so I guess those too

When everything is working as intended the first time trough is actually really good and it wants you to go back and check what that thing was you could barely see you screamed at...

I've only been on it once and my brother and I actually had a decent experience, luckily the entire ride worked and the scare actors seemed to focus mainly on scaring my brother. VR takes far too long to set up, causing massive queues, then if something goes wrong it takes even longer to get running again.

Been working on a little fairground ghost-train recently and honestly the thing that seems to scare guests the most is just smiling at them and keeping awkward eye contact. There's a big delay between sending carts (local ride) so i just stand next to the cars for a good few minutes talking in a London accent. Scares the crap out of us northerners let me tell ya! :-P
