Expensive DPF Repair, What are your options. ( i was asked this qestion )

I was asked the question what are your options if your dpf/system is faulty resulting in a large repair bill so i will tell you my thoughts.

Might be a good idea to start advising, you did the showing and practical stuff, now it would be great to continue to share your wisdom! No end of problems with my mk5 lately, EGR replaced, now possible starter motor, but battery is completely dead so doing that tomorrow to find out!

Hi Alan, great to see you up early, despite picking the video later 'Monday 20th May 8pm'. You talked about EGR diesel faults... I had a 'X Reg' Citroen Xantia 2.0Ltr HDi from brand new to eventually scrapping it with 132K on the clock. At around 98K kept getting EML on with a fault code stating EGR problem. The symptom was like a miss-fire [as you felt the momentary loss of power] then black smoke followed and reduced power. The fault kept clearing itself maybe 100 to 150 miles later. I'd driven it like this for maybe 5K miles and decided to change the cambelt as it was due. I was horrified that to see slack in the belt [half an inch travel top-to-bottom]. Changing the belt cured the EGR fault as it never ever came back on. Then had to rebuild the HDi pump as it was leaking diesel on the seals. One of the best cars I had. Keep the videos coming.

Missed the live stream but really appreciate you making car related content. Miss my Mk4 Brought a 308 hdiblue estate on a 15plate and only 48k very economical but within a month the add blue tank injector and pump needed replacing with only 40% offered towards a new one.design issue problem they said. Still £1100 I never anticipated spending. I’ve a 2018 2.0 galaxy now with 95k no add blue tank but I just know I’m in for some surprises 😅 Thanks Alan

If it’s not the cockerels keeping you away awake it’ll be the clicking lizards, or the karaoke, or the barking dogs. I had a giant flying cockroach land on my arm and I went from dead asleep to on my feet and the lights on in about 3 seconds, it was just folding it’s wings away when the shoe got it. The Philippines is a great place. Id like to live on Bohol

Well explained Alan ,I have just gone back to a petrol car a 2019 Dacia duster 1.6 sce with H4M 738 engine , Fuel economy about 35 to 37 miles per gallon ,my old ford focus 1.6 tdci did about 10 miles to the litre, I did a oil change & oil filter every 4,500 miles , when I parted with it I had done 165000 miles, I had just had a Egr valve fitted but still had problems loss of power so I would clear the codes & it would run OK for about 2 weeks ,my machanic who works on my cars as got it now, he says probably needs the pipe work to the Egr cleaning plus it was due a timing belt, but I miss my 1.6 tdci it had more power than my new Dacia duster 1.6 non turbo engine, & it's a bit gutless I did my home work & new this before I purchased the car, but I don't do the mileage I use to do, it's a shame they are killing the diesel engine . all the Best to you Alan you are a nice bloke,

7mm egr restrictor plate. Oil and air separator install with a 1 micron filter. Acea E8/E11 rated oil, forget about what they recommend with the lube guides (use a 10w-40)

Hey Alan your videos have helped alot with my mk5 mondeo.. been having some noises when I accelerate about 10 garages can't seem to find what's causing it.... even makes the noise when I rev in N happens around 2k revs but sounds like it's coming from the middle 😂

Soot loading , is different to ash , you can’t get rid of the ash, regeneration burns the soot the ash remains in DPF

Alan i recently bought a skoda octavia 2023 plate 1.5 petrol mild hybrid the co2 emissions is 133 my last taxi ,, skoda octavia 2017 .16 diesel the emissions on that was 113 co2 crazy

I was wondering a bit about this because of a breakdown we had. My Mk5 went into limp mode on our trip to a holiday destination here in South Africa, and Ford said it was the EGR - crazy price and no stock anyway. They sent me to a tuner who downloaded software that bypasses the EGR, and they fitted a blanking plate. They mentioned that the software also bypasses the DPF, but they didn't physically touch the DPF. Would that cause issues down the line if the DPF gets blocked? Should I just have it removed?

Missed this live stream. The exhaust pipe tail pipe on my 2015 Kia Ceed is spotless and shiny inside after 9 years and 110k miles, I can put my finger in and it’s clean. I can only assume the DPF is a good idea and that when working correctly do reduce emissions. Still a question mark how long it will last with all the residual ash

Na, loads of problems with the pressure pipes, 5th injector etc. The later 1.6 TDCI ones seem more suited to lower miles.

the mot test involves a smoke test which is particulate matter

@@alan4x That’s the opacity test, in the Netherlands they use a more comprehensive test which detects particulate that wouldn’t be picked up on the opacity test. Picks up if the emissions equipment has been removed.

Hi there Alan. What would You say about P2653 in 2.0 TDCi engine (DW10F, Your favorite ;) ). I've got this code 3 times in two months. No check engine, stored in PCM. What do You think? Turbo variable geometry stucks sometimes? Vacuum pump? All vacuum lines and solenoid are genuine new, same as MAF and MAP. Did You ever get this error code in those engines (mkv mondeo 2.0 tdci)?

not a code that I am familiar with and not common, if its not brining the engine light on or causing any driving issues then that's a bonus. I would have said a vacuum pipe or turbo hose but maybe wait and see if any more comes from it

I’ve seen this, it was the variable vanes sticking. You can get some ‘stuff’ to chuck in that frees them up. For a while anyway!

@@alan4x Vacuum pipes all are ok, turbo hose, hmm, all inlet was tested and it's ok, no air leaks. Maybe You're right, nothing to do for now, but waiting for more to come.

@@silastypol I can only give anecdotal experience but I’ve used it once or twice, I’m always suspicious of these potions you chuck in the tank but it did work for me, for a year anyway. Then I started doing loads of short trips and it cropped up again so another dose it got and it’s been fine. You are correct taking the turbo out on one of those is a massive ball ache so if it costs me a tenner every year I think I’ll go down that road.

DPF subject is very depressing for me its all a scam from the parts manufacturers why are these repairs so pricy? a Nox sensor cost £ 600 for a mercedes why? its all a big scam!!!

@@alan4x yeah I have mate that's why I can buy a year old car for 12k with a 5 year warranty. Sounds good to me. Each to their own thought and I understand people don't like them. Financially it will work for us as we have a solar system at home so it will be free to charge. Like I said they don't really need servicing apart from tyres and wipers, it's not uncommon for 100k vehicles to still be on original pads and disks because they hardly use brakes. Batteries last well over 100k .
