ryehaaan : I’m curious if it’s possible to study the long term health effects of people who wear well fitting supportive shoes versus people who don’t. There’s a lot of study of how high heeled shoes affect health and cause pain, but many people assume if they’re wearing lower heels or flats that’s good enough. Either way it costs money. You either pay for the shoes OR you pay for medical care for all the pain/injury caused (at least partially) by cheaper shoes.

@A Masion Your comment/advice reminds me of an old saying: Don’t be penny-wise & pound foolish. In my young adult years I sold, & then managed a higher quality shoe store, independently owned. It was a lovely, fun place to ‘work.’ I wore a couple higher-heel Italian pump’s, and found them to be most comfortable. I had my second child, life changed, & they moved behind a few other pair, to a space in my closet where my lesser favorite shoes lived. Decades later after a quiet serious injury to both knees, & one hip, I found it very smart to wear almost fully flat shoes. Actually, it may not even have been considered a ‘choice.’ Flash forward, I have lovely grandchildren & enjoy all areas of my life incredibly. But comfort & fun go hand in hand. I know my way around my new Brother sewing machine. And love quality recycled clothes choices, as well as buying a couple ~quality~ garments on the sale counter of my local Higher end department store. These combine to yield a satisfactory wardrobe, that may appear to be on the smaller side. But what I do not skimp on are quality, well made shoes. Perhaps a lesser quality running shoe may occasionally be added, but overall, this philosophy has provided comfort in my body, & a variety of looks. I fully appreciate this channel!

They can afford several of each type of item and probably only wear each item once or twice at best.

The elegant ladies in Singapore often wear white/cream tennis style shoes with their dresses. They look very chic. Ballet flats and low heels tend to be for work not play. Walking many steps in cities or city states is unavoidable so proper heels are worn only for rare occasions where you know it will be car door to door and just a stroll to your table.

My mother always taught me you never go cheap on these 3 things and it's all about quality: Food, Shoes and Hair because you can work with everything else. Clothes can also be thrown in the list but sometimes you can get away with buying less expensive clothes as long as the material is high quality and not "cheap" looking; otherwise it throws your whole wardrobe off very quickly.

Hi, Ana. Driving Mocs are a good casual choice. You can go luxe with brands like Feragamo ($500+), or Tod’s ($250-$500,) , or well made comfort styles from Vionic or Børn for under $150 US. - Vionic and Earth brands have wonderful loafers, ballet flats, boots, and more refined athleisure slip ons. Josef Siebel has ballet flats with stretch and a proper sole - Spanish brands, Campers and Pikilinos have a variety of beautiful comfortable shoes -Clark’s and Trotters have some cute block heels and loafers that are dupes for designer brands. - White canvas sneakers from Keds or Grasshoppers are comfortable and look youthful and fresh. -Tori Burch is a cute low key option In my opinion, shoes with clear labels are gauche.

I practice most of your recommendations because my mother dressed and presented herself elegantly. This is my first comment and I wanted to share one of my mother’s advice with you and whoever is watching this video. One of my mother’s rules to live by was the following- always be willing to purchase quality footwear and mattresses, because, if you’re not on one, you’re on the other. Basically, it’s also good for your health. And since we’re speaking about health, I will add another one from my mother’s rules to live by- every hour you sleep before midnight counts as two hours instead of one. I’m a night person so I do battle with this but it’s very true. I enjoy all your videos very much. Thank you for your input and time.

The “grandma shoe” is actually a classic and is called a sling-back. In addition to the advantages you named, I like about them the fact that they look a little more dressy and they are close-toed, which I want for work, but the sling back allows them to be less confining, and therefore more comfortable than a pump for all day wear. Also, because they have the open side and the strap in back, I think they look a little bit lighter and airier and therefore are a nice choice for summer and spring. I guess I think of them as a hybrid between a pump and a sandal.

Hi, I agree that sneakers are rough, but let's face it-they're the shoe for sightseeing along with sports sandals. All the rest is partially successful substitute. They're also the way to downgrade a fine dress or a skirt for more casual look, especially for weekends. They are considered appropriate in the offices of hi-tech, IT, or telecommunication industries, which are full with affluent casual men. They also make you look younger. As far as sandals go, each year when we go to St. Tropez, I treat myself to a pair of Rondini sandals. They are a custom fit and they adjust them and make them to size in their studio. Look up rich neighborhoods in your state and find consignment shops in those areas. For example I lived in both DMV and NYC. I found great shops in Bethesda, Georgetown, Dupont, Arlington, McClean, downtown Brooklyn, Village, and 5th ave. Many items are top quality names and often have new tags on them. Otherwise you can shop in stores like Zara etc. but you must be VERY selective about the pieces you choose. Occasionally go to Saks and Neiman and look at Clearance Rack. If you are buying a bag however, then buy from online consigners. My recommendations are: -Yoogi's Closet (better deals - check every hour and buy fast! Things go quickly.) -Fashionphile (wait for mark downs, stuff is overpriced).

Thank you for an excellent round up of comfortable shoes that are also elegant. I do think that a ballet pump is more elegant with a tiny bit more heel than totally flat, and better for your feet. Roger Vivier's 'Belle Vivier' ballet pumps have a heel of about 2cms. They are fairly narrow though. An alternative are German shoemaker Peter Kaiser, whose ballet pumps 'Lizzy' have a very elegant last, and make a very elegant foot. Their heel height is 2.5cms, and the toe is slightly extended to a narrow wedge. The bonus is that they are well made and are less than one-third of the price of Roger Viviers.

There are some pretty decent mid range ($40-60) shoes, from Born and Clarks, which can be pretty versatile AND comfortable. Oh, and Aerosoles too!

Hello Anna, thank you for this video. It's fabulous and educational. Can you please do a video for fall walking shoes and winter walking shoes? I have a difficult time knowing what is a great shoe to wear if iit's snowing or raining etc. Thank you.

I have lots of luxury brand shoes , and I must say the Gucci loafer is by far the best shoe I ever bought!!! Totally worth the investment .

Thank you, Anna. This is a topic that has been puzzling me. Elegance and comfort can co-exist in shoes!

Ballerina flats are my favorite! They are comfy and never breach our business casual dress code in the office.

Hi Anna, I recently buy a nice (but cheap) pair of leather slippers to use instead of flip flop at the beach and the pool, and now I feel myself more sophisticated!! Thank you for your suggestions!!

I am glad to see these practical options! I'm 5'9 and heels are a no-go for me most of the time, sadly. I have a few nice pairs of sandals and low-heeled pumps though, so I'm glad to see I'm more or less in the right area :)

It would be interesting to see your choices on sneakers, that doesn't look hideous but yet quite cute!

I loved all the shoes you've recommended here, except for grandma shoe, even by Gucci... sorry. And I am 57 years young :-) Thanks for the video

I'm so grateful for my mom. She drilled this into me. I always wear these types of shoes. The only time I wear sneakers is when I work out, or if I have to walk a very long distances.

Can you do a video on night time elegance in the bedroom? lingerie, perfume, makeup, hair, pajamas, etc.?
@elizabethhill2923 Жыл бұрын
A comfortable shoe brand is SAS, they have Mary Jane style called Maria which is leather ,a rubber sole with a little incline , and I have walked 7 miles on vacation in Europe. They also have ballerina flats, sandals, and heels. They will also re- sole your shoes and spruce up the leather if you want.

What about shoes for a REAL winter, like walking on ice, snow -10 / -15 or lower for some other countries? Would love to see have your view on it.

I choose plain boots with fake fur inside. Nothing fancy. It works with everything. Or choose shoes with a little platform, it keeps the feet warmer.

I appreciate that you are featuring elegant shoes that are comfortable! So many shoemakers do not seem to care if women's feet hurt or not. Thank you!

Wonderful video Anna, very useful for me! But I am still wondering, what kind of shoe should we wear when we are staying in the mountains and go hiking? I feel that the shoes you spoke about in this video are fine for a short walk but not a few hours.. Should we resort to using sneakers? I would love a video on elegant sneakers. Thank you for all your information

I think in this situation (hiking) you would wear shoes that are appropriate for the location (so something that covers your foot, comfortable, has protection ect.) Athletic shoes are perfectly fine to wear in athletic situations, especially when walking in a rough or somewhat dangerous terrain (lots of rocks, mud, uneven ground).

Very good tips. This summer my most classy shoes will be house slippers, ha ha!! Where I live in Canada we are still in quarantine until at least July 30th for now.

I couldn’t agree more. Comfortable, timeless classic shoes is the best investment. I rather have fewer shoes but the best quality I can afford. I have shoes that have lasted for years and still look amazing!

The heel on the grandma shoe is called the stacked heel. A Cuban or court heel is a bit more tapered but still comfortable
