I have absolutely no need for this tent. It's way too expensive, I don't need a 4-season tent, it's too heavy... Gawd, I want one! Good video, as usual. Well done.

If anyone is considering buying one... just do it. I finally bit the bullet and this tent is awesome. Luke's review is what finally sold me on it. It does smell weird when you first open it up and I'd recommend airing it out before taking it on a trip. Havent had a chance to use it in the rain but it handled 40 mph winds no problem.

This tent looks perfect for my Pronghorn hunt next year in Wyoming. Wind destroyed our tent the last time we went. This being rugged and low profile should make for a better shelter. Price is hard to swallow but this is a one of a kind item.

The Hilleberg Akto is a four season double wall tent that weighs over a pound lighter than this tent. Its venting is pretty good with little moisture problems. It does cost $45.00 more than this tent but worth it. One thing that the Akto doesn't have that yours does is the cool factor. I would love to try the Hunker as a hunting blind for whitetail deer. With the right amount of fallen timber around it it would become invisible, safe and warm in the damps. I can see why the SEALs used it. Thanks for the follow up review of this impressive masterpiece.
@eberry0238 жыл бұрын
You can get the Akto in sand and coloring between the two would be pretty similar. This does look like a really cool tent.

i wouldnt doubt that there is an NDA or OPSEC concerns with releasing specific details about a contracted piece of equipment. there are a lot of hoops you need to jump through to be cleared for certain things, and mountain hardware is taking it seriously. as they should.

Sorry, posting went wrong. Full cover ripstop fly external vestibule both sides ( unlike the Marches Cyclometure, which has the vestibule inside) Duralium nesting poles proportionally big for the square meter age of the material. Purportedly used several times on Killy expodetions in the 70 - 80's.... keen to hear your thoughts.... BTW do you have some segment covering older tents of that vintage ? Lots of fellas out there who have older gear that works.... RGDS Warren

I wish that the front vestibule was larger so it had sides. Maybe conform to the tent itself. And yes not having a mesh to the rear door so there would be good air flow but I can't get over not having a fly over the tent and being an all season tent, crazy.

Interesting tent, for sure. I was wondering, what is your suggestion for a 3-day bug out bag? As in, stranded, car won't work, gotta walk home. Would you put the military improved combat shelter in there, a bivvy, or something else? What about food, water purification, etc.?

DOD Non-disclosure agreements probably prevent them from releasing the materials list. I plan on buying one this weekend as I need a low profile, 4 season tent that can handle Wyoming winds during Pronghorn season. My only question is the vestibule flap. Is it water resistant like the rest of the tent? I'd plan to cook underneath it using a small alcohol stove.

@KatJaguar11222 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure why more small tent designers haven’t jumped on this extended porch option, after all when it rains, one needs an area to heat food and drink under, maintain equipment, change clothes, etc.

If you're tall, 6'3" or taller, then you cannot sit up within this tent. Well, you can, but your head would be pushing through the tent top. Otherwise, this tent rocks for a single adult. Yes, I have one... used it through a forest/brush fire deployment... 95+ Deg F weather... torrential downpour... and a mild (icy) Winter.
@nicoleandjoshbaldwin42285 жыл бұрын
The reason that you will probably never get an answer is because mountain hardware was probably contracted by that company to make those tents for the military and the specific materials that they used are under patents held by the military or that company and so therefore they can not be disclosed.

I had one, I liked the design, very robust, but leaked like a sieve when it rained. Very, very disappointed for the both the price and something that came from Mountain Hardware. Would you not expect a 4-season tent to have two layers of fabric for insulation and avoidance of condensation? (Maybe I'm just confused - not an experienced camper).
@TheOutdoorGearReview7 жыл бұрын
Some 4 season tents are double walled but some are single walled. Both are common and both have pros and cons. - Luke
@grotlek7 жыл бұрын
Hi Luke, thanks for the reply. Would you therefore recommend using one of those bivvy sleeping bag covers around the sleeping bag in a single-walled tent like this for an effective second layer to protect against the sleeping bag becoming wet? Or am I missing something here. What exactly do I need to make sure I stay dry? (Two waterproof layers between the outside world and the sleeping bag seems a good idea because of the condensation issue). Sorry I'm pretty new, looking to get into camping and hiking, have invested in some semi-decent gear (nothing as expensive as this tent but looking for the best quality at an affordable price, at the point in the price/quality curve before the price sky-rockets for a seemingly little gain) and the last thing I want to do is ruin it with water damage or get myself hypothermia on my first real trip. Looking to find out about effectively staying warm and - possibly more importantly - dry in potentially random weather changes. While heat is obviously the critical factor - you don't die of wetness - at least if you're cold but dry you can warm up fairly quickly. If a down bag gets wet then you'll just bleed warmth out. I'm really surprised I can't seem to find good and thorough information about staying warm and dry with the potential different sleep systems and what features or combinations one should look for. (Please do treat this as a suggestion for a future video; if you like :-).
