Thinking out of the box! That's a neat idea and one that I can put to use. Overnight fishing trip with a comfortable place to sleep, up off the ground away from the ants, netting to keep mosquitos at bay, and a cover to keep the dew off. No draw backs for me as my truck will be 200 feet away. This area has a big metal ring fire pit with a grate that can hold my cast iron skillet for cooking the fish I catch. Looks like you have given me a plan. That's Bud!

THAT Model of COT was a bear for me to fit the spreader bars into. Eventually, it came to pass. I LIKE your setup with the tent on the cot. Lost vestibule space is more than made up for by the area now under the cot for storing gear. It takes a soldier to haul that load. In the end, you are high and dry and have a place to sit in relative comfort.
@boonedockery72203 жыл бұрын
James, I LOVE It! I'm going to use it again this weekend and will try expanding the vestibule area with a trick "justpain 365" suggested. There is A Lot of storage space under that cot! I agree with you about both the spreader bars and it being a "soldiers load"! I'll weigh the cot before the next video. Did I Mention I Love It?!?!?

Cut yourself a small pole/stake at the height of the cot and use that with your vestibule guy line. It brings it it to the right height to be full open.

Old video but the only one with the lightfighter cot setup. Wonder if you put the sleeping pad on the cot and under the tent would be better, or even doubling up a woobie/poncho liner under the tent and on the cot. Could even stuff the poncho under there in a “ranger roll” configuration just because.

Just a thought.... to increase the size of the vestibule, as if it were ground-mounted, use a pair of sticks tied at one end (an inverted V) to set the angle of the vestibule flap and then tension and peg to the ground. Should work!

If you add a lol cord to your kick out rope and put a Y stick in the ground a little ways out before you stake it it will actually give you more room in your vestuable sides that you were look looking for. @boonedockery7220 Жыл бұрын
Great! Yes, without the winterization kit, wind will come up through the vestibules. You can use a length of sock cord/bungie cord and attach the tie out points of the vestibules under the cot while you sleep. you can still use the door zipper but you'll have to use both hands as there isn't enough tension on the vestibule to allow the zip to move freely. I would recommend extra insulation beneath your sleeping bag as well. The air underneath the cot will act the same as if you are in a hammock. It will feel colder than the air temperature. I hope you have a fantastic camping trip!

Do you recommend folding & rolling the tent fabric, or do you beleive stuffing the tent material into the sack is best? I was taught that modern tent is waterproofed using a film of urethane or silicone such that repeated creasing along the same lines could upset that film; stuffing the fabric created random folds and obviated the concern. Thanks.
@boonedockery72202 жыл бұрын
As of now I fold and roll! It has worked great so far. However, with the nature of the fabric, I wouldn't be apposed to stuffing it if the situation dictated it.

I have trouble sleeping some times, PTSD, and I really have been having a hard time sleeping sense the pullout and unnecessary Loss, Don’t think I could have said it any better then you put it . Just wanted you to know how much you have helped me, since that day ,I started watching you… Hope I didn’t ramble to much … GOD BLESS YOU and your FAMILY, May you all be BLESSED… Now on a lighter side, I need to slow down watching you , every time I watch it cost me me, OH LOOK at that new GSI cup , oh wait HE has another new one , oh that one is green, and I’m wanting all of my US GEAR back , I go to surplus stores LOL!!! Lee, First of all thank you for sharing this with me. It has truly touched my heart as I believe it will touch the hearts of all that read it. I am saddened for your loss Lee. My father is in his mid 80's and I well up every time I think of his eventual passing. I know that time will eventually come and pass, even knowing I will see him again in Heaven, it is of little comfort. It appears that you and your Dad were very close and shared many amazing adventures with him. I can only empathize with you as no one can truly know another's pain in loss. May our Lord comfort you in your times of sorrow. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your loyal support of the channel. It is deeply appreciated. I believe I have gathered a group of amazing Brothers and Sisters via this channel and it times it truly does feel like an extended family to me. I absolutely love the "Land of The Lost" analogy! I watched that show every Saturday Morning! It would be really cool if I could have a glimpse of a Sleestak or Chaka in the background of one of my videos! It would be so much more impressive than a common Sasquatch. I described the new gorge I found to my wife as a scene from Jurassic Park, so I definitely feel the same vibe! My wife has PTSD as do several of my friends and I have seen first hand the day to day battle that all that endure it fights. I can not begin to image the struggle it creates. You will be in my prayers Lee. I find it interesting that I remind you of your Dad. I have had several students over the past 30+ years that have either said something similar or that I was the father figure in there life. I am a father and have over the years carried those fatherly traits into my class room. I call my students "My Kids" and I try to be a positive influence in there life. As with my video's, good, bad or indifferent, I'm just me. I am thankful to have connected with you through them. Never worry about "Rambling" too much with me, You Seen My Video's! I Am A Master Rambler! You won't have to worry too much about me influencing purchases for a while. I've fallen on difficult times financially, so, I'll just be using what I've got for quite a while I suspect. I Love REAL Surplus Stores! I remember they use to be EVERYWHERE! Now they are few and far between. There is one in Lexington KY, I would love to visit. armysurpluswarehouselexington.com/ It would be a great little field trip once my fortunes take a turn for the better. The best thing about surplus is you can get a lot for a little! Lee, Thank You Again For Writing Me! It really dose mean a lot to me. You Will Be in My Prayers Brother! Your thoughts cocerning 911 after we pulled out are in line with what has been troubling to me - my thoughts cause me to reflect what I have learned after we pulled out of Vietnam. Vietnam today favors the US above the communist blocks. I use the term "Blocks" because the communist system blocks efforts to lay down a foundation of freedom that can be built upon.

My thoughts and opinions concerning 9/11, the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have changed radically since the Towers fell. Japan, Vietnam and South Korea are ramping up their strategic forces exponentially. Like Reagan era United States, They KNOW their only hope for peace is through their ability and willingness to use maximum force against their foes. If the world only knew the truth, their would be a global revolution quite similar to the French Revolution that began in 1798. Just my humble opinion.
