This massive, all marble, temple of Apollo, stood 327 feet long and 153 feet wide, making it the third largest temple of the ancient world, with the largest one in Ephesus, the temple of Artemis. Upon the leveled platform of 5,500 square meters, 122 massive columns measured 7.5 feet in diameter supported an elaborate roof extending over the entire platform. The walls stood 84 feet high along the sides of the temple platform.
Taking over 700 years to construct, but yet never finished, the temple of Apollo, was a place where the Oracle communicated with the underworld and attracted millions of people to hear a word from the gods.
